Did the government owe AIG a bailout?

In a $25 Billion lawsuit, the government is accused of malfeasance by NOT bailing out AIG during the credit crisis. (No word yet whether Lehman Bros shareholders will join the suit.)

[Greenberg sues feds for $25 billion for taking over AIG - Nov. 21, 2011](Greenberg sues feds for $25 billion for taking over AIG - Nov. 21, 2011)

Lehman’s should join the suit.

AIG was just a funnel system to get money to the counterparties.

It really does bring up the question of the government picking winners and losers. It’s going on with MF Global, right now. There is a class of trader and broker who is getting their money back and a class who hasn’t seen a dollar. It’s good to be king.
