Did you order the new iPhone?

Maybe to put on wifi mode?

Or airplane when not in use.

Another negative about the audio dictated text. Once they read it the message goes away. Means you lose the conversation, and with my memory I have no idea what I said.Thats a no-go in my book.

I picked up the phone and accidentally send a picture of the photo on the wall behind me to DH in a text. How the heck did I do that??

DrGoogle, can you explain your above 2 posts?? I don’t understand.

I think I remember my daughter told me to put on airplane mode so it doesn’t search for the network or something like that all the time and loose battery. Similar to post #255. She has 4s.

But if I put it in airplane mode, I wont receive calls, texts, emails… right?

Jym626, when i went from an iPhone 4 to an iPhone 5s, I restored my new phone from the iTunes backup. Somehow my new phone thought it was a 4s instead of a 5s, and it was going through the battery like crazy. Apple helped me to “start over”, and then everything was fine. Perhaps something like that is happening to you. I would contact Apple customer service.

Thats a possibility. It tried to sync 10,000 photos today. We stopped that! Did you deal with apple CS over the phone? No way I’ll go to the store right now. Would be a zoo!

This is the usual scenario of all new versions of IOS.

Users will complain about battery usage. Apple fanboys will pipe in and “experts” will recommend to disable about EVERYTHING that makes the iPhone remarkable. Oh yes, that great new screen looks like crap at 20 to 40 brightness. Oh yes, do not update apps in the background. Fetch your data every week or so. In other words, dumb down your phone to the level of one of them genius who work at the Apple stores. That means dumb as barite rocks.

Then after two weeks of following all kind of tips, you will see little improvement. But magically Apple will release a 8.0.1 that will address the problems they denied ever existed.

So, Jym, if you want to keep your sanity, ignore the merry go-round of futility. Do NOT expect the new toy to reach 50 percent of advertised usage. Keep the darn thing charged and know where your plugs are. In a few days, there will be enough reports for Apple to reopen their Pandora box.

The update x.o.1 version will bring the battery up by a good amount. Nothing wonderful, but acceptable. This is what happened to the iPad Air as it went from 40 percent to 60 or 70 percent. Fwiw, the update to 8.0 knocked my battery usage on two iPads and iPhones by fifty percent with the SAME settings as before. But heck it must be my fault! It WILL get better after they FIX the IOS.

By the way, you can monitor the battery usage by app from the settings.

At least yesterday in our store, people who were coming in for help vs. buying a new iPhone didn’t have to wait in line. They could walk right into the store.

OOh, new avatar, xig. Fun!

I seem to recall that there was a setting either in “settings” or “general” that listed the apps in descending order of how much memory it was using. cant seem to put my finger on that at the moment, nor the feature showing HM battery usage. No biggie. I am used to carrying a back up battery and a gazillion chargers. Maybe I’ll be getting a mophie as a holiday gift, though DH just came back from a tecchie conference with a bunch of back up battery things. Obviously this is a universal problem if they were giving them away like candy.

Syncing 10,000 photos? That IS a bunch. Do you really need to have so many on your phone? An external device might help you, or even an older iPod.

General - Usage - Battery Usage

Jym, let it populate.

Below the usage button, look up background refresh and disable that for the time being.

Thanks for the tips and pointers!! Right now the battery usage isn’t listing very many of my apps. Its just listing the ones used in the last 24 hrs.

I think my photos on my computer, phone and the cloud are in some sort of loop and replicate themselves. Feels like Steve McQueen’s “The Blob”.

I think too that earlier this morning I noticed that some apps like linked in and a few others didn’t load until I re entered my password. So it may have sucked up a lot of battery life trying to load the apps. However, that was resolved this morning and by the afternoon the battery was below 50%. Will see how it does now with some of the above suggestions implemented.

My phone hasn’t been plugged in since 9AM this morning, and I have 90% battery life left. Hmmm.

I forgot to add, I don’t think I have nearly as many apps as jym626, so that might make a difference, too.

Well, the old Iphone 4S has been on the whole time, and without the phone, its battery life has held up today.
