Did you order the new iPhone?

@jym626, I made an appointment at the Apple store, so I wouldn’t have to wait. But in hindsight, it would have been just as easy to do with a phone call to customer service.

I noticed that some app settings need to be refreshed, like turning off Facebook’s autoplay of movies - or at least having that happen only on wifi. I found a long time ago a surprise big user was Groupon, so I restricted it to wifi (by turning the cellular setting off for the app).

I like the new battery usage setting (under general). It shows usage over 24hrs or 3 days. For me, that means mostly mail, home & lock screen (meaning notifications, etc.) and web and Facebook. I could reduce the number of apps accessing the lock screen for notifications but most I want but it’s not a big deal.

Well I just accidentally deleted something by accidentally swiping left and since I have multiple emails going to my phone (which is probably what is eating the battery life) I am not sure what I accidentally deleted. So am gonna see about resetting that swipe function.

Lergmom - that FB feature annoys me to all ends. I didn’t know it was something you could turn off - thanks for the tip!

So I made a mistake of adding cnbc app and allowed updates by accident. I think this is probably drain the battery.
I’m going to delete it and reinstall.

teriwtt, you can only turn off that feature for when your phone is using the cellular network. Unfortunately, there’s no way to turn it off when you’re on wifi. That’s my understanding, and if someone knows how to do that I’d be eternally grateful.

@fireandrain, you can turn off videos so that they don’t play automatically at any time. Go to settings>Facebook>settings>auto-play>and choose “off”.

This is for the iPhone. It may be different on other phones.

Yep, that’s what I did.

Well thanks to Amazon Sunday delivery, my case has arrived and the phone is securely in place. I had to get a different color than what I originally wanted, but its fine and will be easy to spot. If I don’t like it, I’ll replace it, as I am use to a rubberized edge all the way around all 4 sides and this is a little different. But I wanted something to protect it now (it slipped once already but all it did was make me lose what I was typing and it landed in my lap) so this will do.

Just turned off that autoplay. Thanks.

FYI for apps like CNBC, go to Settings/General and check which apps are using background refresh. I turn most off, not so much to save battery life as to control data usage - and partly to limit some apps tracking me. For big data sucking hog apps, I turn off cellular. I noted I did this with Groupon because it was using way too much data for what it does. I also limit some video apps to wifi only.

I am having a problem while view my screen and it is causing my eyes to burn; similar to if I were wearing glasses that are too strong. I have turned the brightness way down, much lower than any other phone. I do not have this problem with my 4S or my husband’s Samsung Galaxy S4. I had a similar experience with a pair of reading glasses with my contact after switching away from multi focal contact; because of this problem, I have been wearing my glasses to work instead of my contacts.

I am sure this is an eye problem, not a phone problem, but I was curious if any one has had this problem before; might have to start a thread on vision issues!

Not had that problem, but I almost accidentally butt-recorded a text to someone! (well it wasnt a “butt” recording- it was in my purse, but somehow it recorded a text, which is weird because you have to hold down that mike button to record.

Ah, the new things the Iphone 6 will bring to us…

I like my phone but I’ll better wait. I’m never an early adopter of technologies, I know better. :D

Can that voice texting feature be disabled?

havent tried yet

thank you all for this thread. Like my g/f today, we are waiting. I’ll keep reading and learning, and buy when the store is not a mad house.

As you can see in the photos, the buttons on the side of the phone are longer than the previous ones (which were round) and the phone is bigger, so where I am accustomed to naturally putting my hand when I reach in for the phone is messing with the volume and seems to be doing some other things. Will take some getting used to <a href=“From iPhone to iPhone 6 Plus - In pictures! | iMore”>http://www.imore.com/iphone-iphone-6-plus-pictures</a></p>

How long did it take for pictures to finally transfer via cloud. Mine is taking forever.

As to audio and video messages, you can set them to expire or not, with the options “After 2 minutes” or “Never”. Don’t see a way to disable the microphone without disabling all voice dictation, meaning Siri, etc.

Problem with shifting things via iCloud is usually your upload speed is a rather small fraction of download speed. I have 110 down but only about 8-10 up. That’s an attraction of FIOS but it doesn’t exist here.

I’ve been playing with extensions. Can see they’re in toddler stage, as in I can get access to the password manager but it may not work on a site. Extensions could become very powerful. They’ll need to rethink the Share menu so you can arrange those as you want, but that will get complicated because you could have a lot and want different ones at different times.
