Anyone have any opinions about Apple Pay? Whether they’re going to use it or not? As soon as it comes out, or wait?

Nope too poor
My metro is reliable though

I just got back to my apartment with iphone 6 waiting for me. With my jet leg and all, instead of unpacking I decided to get my 6 set up. It is a lot bigger than 5s.

I don’t think it’s a lot bigger, slightly longer is what I thought of it.

deleted. I figured out what to do.

IPhone 6 - what a productivity/leisure time killer. How many hours have been lost on setting those phones up? This was such a great weekend weather wise, I’m glad I did not have to waste any of it on a phone setup.
I will get mine when the weather turns really crappy.

I saw someone else’s i6plus at a meeting yesterday. The screen was gorgeous. I don’t think I’ll upgrade yet but I may get the watch to use Apple Pay. If it works as well as they claim, it will be great not to fumble to get the credit card out to pay.

10 million sold in one weekend. For perspective, the most phones Apple’s sold in a quarter across the globe has been 51M. It’s currently available in the US, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Japan, Puerto Rico, Singapore and the UK, with another 20 countries in 4 days as they ramp up to 115 countries by the end of the quarter.

You of course can’t draw a straight line from 10M. Sales will drop after the rush of orders and it’s for sale in some of the largest markets now but they’ll be adding other large markets like China. Big quarter for Apple.

BTW, I find Samsung’s ads weird. I understand the internal need: after losing lawsuits over copying Apple, they want to crow that they were in big screens before Apple. But it seems to me the advertising just tells customers that Apple now has bigger phones, which is an ad for Apple because no one cares who came first.

Humm, Lergnom, that is a half glass full or empty. Samsung is reminding everyone their phones were not only larger but had more features two years ago. They also have a newer and better model coming out soon. Apple just joined the club that offers the best device. It did not leapfrog the rest of them. Apple will be behind by Xmas again.

Regarding the sales, it is good to remember how large the cohort of 4s to 6 seems to be. That is a testament to the poor acceptance of the 5 and 5s. The test for Apple will come later, but I have to admit that the design changes have been positive by dropping the darn boxy industrial look.

I did not get called to guide my parents in their upgrade. They did not bother to go pick the new phone up. The new one replaces a 3G. Early adopters!

That plus is really huge. So while I understand that people with large hands will find it easier to use, what are they going to carry it in? A man-bag?

I also disagree that the large iphone is going to kill the need for a mini tablet.
When I am using the phone, I want to be able to use it with one hand, and my hands are small enough that most of the time I have to resort to wearing gloves designed for children. (& I am not a pink & purple fan)
I use the tablet for other things, reading, playing games/ watching videos.
I would buy the 6 though, if I was in the market for a phone, but it wouldn’t replace a tablet.
The tablet also is helping me stretch the time before I replace the laptop, which is now almost 7 years old. I’m worried that it won’t be able to run the new OS.

^ plus is supposed to still fit in the pocket. I wouldn’t want a bigger phone myself. If you watch a movie on the phone, it may help.

There is a distinct advantage of the tablets for a certain group of users: the fact that is an non-restricted system that does not need a captive market to operate. One can buy an iPad without getting grabbed by the tentacles of ATT and the others and forced to buy a data plan. Not so much luck with an iPhone unless you opt to pay full retail from the get go.

Of course, in due time, this will all change as we can expect the domestic market to end up being a full retail market as it is in most countries in the ROW.

I always pay full retail because that is the only way I can keep my unlimited data plan, with Verizon.
Unfortunately, they still have the best coverage where I live & travel.

We have an unlimited data plan. I just paid , IIRC, $299 for the Iphone 6 silver 64 GB.
It is using battery power quickly, largely with messages, Home/lock screen and mail. What on the home/lock screen is sucking up 28-30% of the battery use?

Verizon doesn’t have unlimited data plans anymore. Mine is grandfathered from when I had a blackberry. Which I still kind of miss, even though the trackball had major issues.
Ironically, my Luddite H prompted me to get an iPhone, because he thought the touch screen keyboard was easy to use. ( but he still has a flip phone…that he rarely even carries)
My 5 seems to be running hotter since upgrade.

I am trying a couple different battery management apps.
Im using Battery Doctor right now.

I do agree with Xiggi that if the only way to stretch battery life is to cut connection with the outside world/ interwebs, ( oh noes!), then it defeats the purpose of having a smart phone.
But.
You may have apps that you don’t normally use, running in the background, just waiting to notify you or track your location.

Ours is a grandfathered plan too. And NO WAY would I pay full price for the phone.
I get a lot of emails, and do have it set to check for new ones, so thats probably a lot of the email part. I will have to figure out later what the main screen is scuking up. Right now the phone is charging…

I

I was going to order a 6 now, but given the issues, maybe I’ll wait a couple of weeks. My dying power button will just have to survive, and I don’t need 4G that badly.

My iPad can wait for IOS 8 too if the wifi is as sucky as some claim.

If you have an IPad three, I would wait.

I expect they want ios8 to be as problem free as possible before Yosemite is released, or they could have a sstorm.

Good news for i6 owners,
