Did you order the new iPhone?

Cellphone camera is also much quieter. Not as intrusive. Post #119 reminds me that’s another use of cellphone camera. I use it to copy driver’s license, car license, boat loads of stuff that I’ve never thought before.
I also rarely takes pictures or use video when I’m at my daughter’s concert. Unlike tons of people I know that’s been doing that. I want the experience.
My previous life, I used to go to Hollywood to rent out dark room and photography equipment to shoot still life pictures of things I’ve liked.

Depending on who you use for insurance, they may have an app that guides you through the process of what to do when you’ve had an accident… one of which is, to take pictures with your smart phone and enter information as the app requests it. I know D2 used it a few weeks ago when she was in a car wreck. Most of us adults know what to do and what to say when in an accident, but many young adults, who have never had to deal with this, don’t. There’s always something to forget that the app can remind you of.

Excellent suggestion, Teri!

I got rear-ended earlier this summer (gentle tap at a stoplight with just a tiny bit of damage). The guy was extremely nice and responsible, but we both took pictures with our phones of each others phones and license plates.

That probably will become the common way to file claims. Makes a lot of sense!

btw… I failed to mention that we have State Farm and it’s their app we use.

Amazing how Apple has found a way to con so many people. I actually find it comical. Most of the new features on the phone are barely even used. A few years back, I paid $100 for what? For Siri, who is more of a nuisance than a help? For a better camera? If anything, I’ll just upgrade to the 5, which will be free. Just so I will be eligible for the software update when it becomes available.

Funny how the iPhones keep getting bigger and bigger, while iPads are getting smaller and smaller.

P.S. These days, phones are made intentionally with a lifespan of 2 years, so they can force you into an upgrade. Kinda like True Blood lol. They weaken the effects of the Hep V cure so they could get people hooked on it and get more money.

Annie…the 5 has some issues. Some are getting free battery replacements right now because they don’t hold a charge. Some have home button issues. Get a 5s if you don’t want a 6.

I don’t feel conned by Apple at all. I like my iPhone, thank you. My kids like theirs. My husband likes his MotoX.

We have friends who swear by their dumb phones.

Different strokes for different folks.

I don’t feel conned by Apple, either. I have the iPhone rather than Android because my kids and Dh had their phones first, and that’s what they have used and liked. It’s easier, and cheaper, to be in the same world. But it’s been a great convenience in my life compared to my “dumb” phone, no question. I’m sure if I started with an Android phone, and my family had it too, I’d like it as well.
Also love my iPad, which is wonderful for travel and for the hours I sometimes spend in the doctor’s office. But so are other tablets. I think that the arguing about the superiority of one brand over another gets to be pretty silly. All of the companies exist primarily to make money, and they do what they do for the health of their brand. What you like using is all a matter of personal preference, and often is just what one is used to.

I don’t feel conned by Apple either. I’m pleased with their products (iPhone and iPad) and once I retire and am not tied to a Windows laptop, I’ll get a Macbook of some type.

Good photographer with smartphone>Bad photographer with a Leica.

My dad liked Leica lenses.
We grew up with a darkroom in the basement. He did his own developing, printing & enlarging, mostly for personal use.
However even my iphone 5 takes photos that are good enough for my needs & I wish we had digital when the kids were growing up, because I never did get all those disposable cameras developed & we only used our video camera a few times as it was very intrusive.
My daughter has both an SLR & Digital SLR, but I expect she uses her phone most of the time.
I even got her a waterproof case so she can take photos underwater!

However, I will keep my 5 until I start to see refurbed available.
Not " upgrading" through Verizon and paying more per month to pay for several iPhones.

Annie- Having a bad day? No one is being conned. Apple makes a good product. Yes, there are some issues and some people prefer Android based products. I love my iPone and my iPad and use them to death. My boss and I travel almost exclusively with iPads instead of our work computers. I guess we drank the Kool-aid.

That’s a bit like the old “is it better to get an A in a standard course or a B in an AP course?” The AO always answers: “it’s best to get an A in an AP course.”

Ive been using Macs when most of the world was using DoS.
Now most operating systems are more like those Macs than the other way around, so who actually drank the kool aid?
( My mom bought Funny Face instead)

A tiny tad confused, EK? That would take cases of Kool Aid to be true. Check the stats of OSX about market penetration. As far as MS and Linux being more like the Mac … hardly!

“Ive been using Macs when most of the world was using DoS.

I realize you don’t have a lot of traditional work experience, but many people were (or still are) tied to Windows for work purposes, but bought (or buy) Macs for home use. But when computers became prominent, most people didn’t necessarily need home computers – that took a while for that cycle to catch up.

“Ive been using Macs when most of the world was using DoS.

The first GUI OS was the Xerox PARC, not the Mac OS, so Apple can’t claim any originality in that development. Also, OSX is now based on the UNIX OS, so it’s pretty much a clone of UNIX/Linux.

I was the opposite…I was using a Mac at work…and also had a mac at home. But my husband needed a PC based computer at home to accommodate some software that wasn’t made for the Mac at the time.

No question…our next home computer will be a Mac.

I’ve been drinking the Apple Kool-Aid in different forms for many years mixed in with “vanilla” PC’s at work and sometimes at home. The Kool-Aid is much more refreshing to me these days!

But I’m not going to knock PC’s. It’s what I have at work, what I know well. Given a preference I choose Apple products. Like that from phone to iPad to Mac Air I have consistency and fluidity.
