Did You See It?

The Golden Bear has still got it. Jack Nicklaus made a hole-in-one at the Masters Opening. It was epic! I love this man!

Wow!

@poetsheart, here is a link:

Nicklaus is the embodiment of all that is good in professional golf, perhaps even more so than Arnold Palmer, and that’s saying a lot! He commands utmost respect due to his sterling reputation as a gentleman both on and off the course, a consummate professional, and designer of some of the worlds most beautiful and challenging courses. You don’t find this caliber of athlete in sports very often nowadays, so it’s profoundly satisfying to see him show the world he’s still got it.

Great to see Nicklaus do that (he predicted it). Bu then Villegas hit TWO holes in one!! http://www.newser.com/article/6921d6d225b04e05bcea0c06f3bdf899/streelman-wins-masters-par-3-in-sudden-death-playoff-over-villegas-who-had-2-holes-in-1.html

Just saw it on the news… pretty awesome.

I thought you were talking about the Cal Bears! Oh well… great hole-in-one!

I missed a flight once, watching Jack make a charge at the 1986 Masters and winning it. I got so wrapped up in his 6th (?) Masters victory I missed hearing my page.

Jack Nicklaus is still playing golf!?!!

(And obviously no I didn’t see it. I think watching golf and playing it is about has boring as it gets, but my Dad loved watching sports and I ended up seeing a lot of golf games with him.)

We like watching golf, because it’s strangely relaxing. And it’s nice to see green grass. We got several inches of snow overnight.

I’ve been watching golf since I was about six when, as an excuse to hang around my Dad on weekends, I’d sit in front of the TV with him while he watched. I hadn’t a prayer of watching cartoons when he had control of the remote, so I’d just make do with what was in front of my eyes. I don’t know when it started, but one day I found myself actually fascinated by what those guys were doing with those little white balls, and began to pick things up while listening to the voice over commentary. It amazed me time and again how often they managed to miss the hole that was only a couple of feet away, despite the fact that they often took what seemed like an eternity studying the lie of the ball, the slope of the green, and the alignment of the planets before attempting the putt. I’ve pretty much been hooked ever since.

Thanks for sharing. I love Jack Nicklaus. I don’t have much interest in golf except for The Masters. I get teary every year when they have the honorary starters tee off to start the tournament.

I love the tradition and would love to go some day to see the course in full bloom. One of my dearest friends has a son who has been on the pro mini-tours the last few years and somehow they got tickets to go for a day or two a few years back. It was the last year we had a really warm southern winter, maybe 2011, and everything had bloomed early. She is an avid gardener and was so disappointed that she only saw one azalea bush left with any blooms.

I watched the opening tee shots hit by Palmer, Player, and Nicklaus too,

Let’s just say they’re going to have to move the crowd around for these guys next year.

Palmer’s was hard, low, and left. Someone may have been decapitated. I think it was the 2002 Masters, which was only several months before his death, Sam Snead cold-cocked someone in the crowd with his drive. Sam couldn’t see, but he could still swing pretty hard.

I was great to see Tom Terrific shoot 71 at 65; simply Wow! I was rooting oh so hard in '09 for him to win the Open; I knew it was not likely to be repeated and wanted him to get it.

Great leaderboard with the mix of young (Spieth, Day, McIlroy) and vets (Els, Garcia, Phil). Its going to be fun this weekend.

I hate to admit it but when Tiger is not in the mix, I simply move to a different channel. I might be out of golf forever. Not to mention that guys like Garcia are irritating. Even with camera editing, one has time to take a bathroom break and refresh a drink between the time he prepares to hit a shot and the time he actually strikes the ball.

Rory who? Jordan Spieth is on fire.

So far, I’ve been impressed with El Tigre. He was completely lost two months ago at Phoenix and Torrey. Not even a shadow of his former self. It helps to have quasi soft conditions, but it’s been a huge improvement. I’m not saying he’s back – he’ll never be back, ala 2000 – but so far, so good.

He’s 2-under and looking very good.

Speith is six at 14-under. Even if he pars in the last three holes he breaks the 36-hole scoring record of 131.

Hook 'em, Horns! Go, Jordan!

Ditto @MaineLonghorn! @Xiggi, what the heck?! Jordan Spieth is a Jesuit kid and Longhorn! Where is your Texas loyalty?

You are right. I should support the Ranger and remember that it is only the football and basketball programs that are in my supporting cooler. Patterson could not possibly screw the golf program up. Well, perhaps I’m giving the moron too much credit.

Sure looks like a great show for Jordan.
