This is a question directed toward the individuals who have graduated with a BS/BA.

Student satisfaction surveys are frequently found useful by prospective students and, while we already know the results to those, I’d like a more detailed accounts of how you guys view your alma mater after you’ve graduated with hindsight.

Were you satisfied with your undergraduate experience? Did you feel your Alma Mater delivered everything you thought it would based on the opinions see plastered on College Confidential? Or was it full of hype? Be honest.

Mine definitely did (although admittedly I graduated years and years ago). Great professors, wonderful friends (many of whom I still have), challenging work, fun times.
Of course not every minute of any experience is perfect, but even as I look back, I wouldn’t trade my college experience for anything.

Wouldn’t trade mine either, but I am not sure my experience is what my child is looking for or needs. Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on general topics -

large school or small school, for example. I went to a large school. My brother went to a small one. I was lucky enough to get a small school experience from my major, but now wish that I had gotten the same experience in other classes as well. My brother got small school - ie, interested professor, committed classmates, intense discussions - from all his classes. Hence, I am leaning toward the smaller end of my daughter’s list.

have other parents found some answers to these questions?

Yes, but I agree with Erin’s DAd. I tell my own kids, students and advisees that college is about 60-80% of what you make. You can go to the top school and eek by with no life changing experiences other than fun. You can go to a much lower school and get all that is offered.

Probably the first students above had harder more challenging classes. You might argue that they are smarter. But the second student is much more motivated. If his/her gpa is very high and they have demonstrated leadership skills, they have options such as top graduate schools.

So to answer, did it meet my expectations— yes. But I wish I had taken more advantage of it like my D2 is doing.
