I was checking out the http://oafa.pitt.edu/apply/ website, and on the side there’s a button that says “Pay your tuition deposit”. I haven’t applied to Pitt, but decided to click it because I thought it was strange that it was showing up. It led me to a short form, which I filled out for fun to see what would happen (my name, address, etc) and it took me to a page to pay a $300 tuition deposit? Of course, I closed the browser and didn’t pay, but why would that show up if I haven’t even applied?
It’s a standard form, the same for everyone, and not unique to any profile you may have at Pitt. That must be the cost of the deposit, so the form allows you to pay it at this time, if you are indeed matriculating.
As it does not look like they ask anything of you other than your status as a child of an in-state resident, they will not know (until you ask for your deposit returned) that you have not been granted admission.
That’s my best guess.
