I know this is on other threads but I want to ask for myself. I have three friends at my school who also applied to Harvard and have already been e-mailed about setting up interviews. I haven’t heard a word. How do they choose who gets an interview and who doesn’t? Is it possible that they may have already rendered a decision on my application? Just curious.

Not at all possible. See this other thread, where the person was offered an interview even though he hasn’t even completed his application. Interview offers are handled by the local alumni association and has little to do with your admission chances (unless there’s special circumstance like a second interview, etc).

It’s more likely that your interviewer is taking a long time to contact you. Also, remember that this is only early January. It wouldn’t be abnormal to have to wait another month to get an interview.

if 3 friends from the same school have been contacted then isn’t it likely that the interviewer should be the same? and if so the interviewer likely should have sent e mails out to all his potential interviewees from that school to schedule interview dates?

I can only tell you my own experience in high school, which was that my interviewers were never the same as the ones who interviewed other students at my high school, for Harvard as well as other colleges. I think it’s a simple matter of how they divided up the applicants, nothing to worry about.

Edit: Also, since there are several posters on this board who’re interviewers, hopefully one of them will jump in to give you a definite answer, or I guess you can just PM someone and ask :)

No. Where I live, many interviewers meet only a couple of applicants per year. Even in years when I have interviewed half a dozen applicants or more, I have not interviewed all the applicants from a single school.

NYCdreamer, do not panic. The fact that you haven’t been contacted for an interview means that you haven’t been contacted for an interview, and nothing more. But since it is the end of January, you could contact the admissions office (or, if you know how, your local Harvard Club), to let them know you’d like to interview, but you haven’t been contacted yet.
