<p>I believe this ranking tries to say which state does the least with it’s leisure time in terms of active activities. </p>

<p>I think many in the South would count hunting and fishing as sports or activities that they do more than many others but are not counted as such in this survey. Is riding a cart playing 18 holes much better than walking down to the fishing hole?</p>

<p>Barrons–I didn’t see anywhere that they counted golf but not hunting/fishing. In fact, as far as I can see, they didn’t ask if people did *specific *things. </p>

<p>I for one salute any group of people who work less!</p>

<p>No coincidence that most of the top-10 states are also the ones in which people are most often too lazy to look outside of their own family for a spouse.</p>

<p>The study used a direct correlation of leisure vs. time working. If you look at many of these states they also have high unemployment. They may spend as much time in active pursuits as other states, however when put into a math equation with number of hours worked, states with high unemployment are at a disadvantage. I am not saying this is the overwhelming case here, it is simply something to consider when looking at these types of lists.</p>
