iDad, sorry to hear the calf has a case of ow. Feel better soon!

Dick’s Sporting Goods warned after-hours today blaming cold January weather and the Lance Armstrong doping scandal. I’m somewhat amazed that the Livestrong stuff sold so well. In my local store, Livestrong occupies about 15% of the fitness floorspace. Nike, Adidas, Underarmor, Reebook and others take up the rest with Nike taking up far more space than anyone else.

“The company also said Lance Armstrong’s doping scandal hit Livestrong brand sales, which had made up more than half of its fitness and workout equipment business. It’s currently discounting associated products under that brand to make room for other names.”

So BCE, should we expect racks of Livestrong at our TJs or Marshall’s soon!

Thanks. MOWC and Ohiopublic and plantmom. I don’t think my calf is anything very serious. I do think I’ll lay off the plyo box jumps or squat jumps in today’s workout. I’ll wear my new Brooks tights, which are definitely “compression” on my legs!

On Livestrong:

Marshall’s/TJ MAXX have always had a few bits and pieces of Livestrong stuff. I’ve bought some Livestrong shorts there, mostly because I like the gray/yellow combo. I expect to see a lot more of it, though…

As for Dick’s being caught out on winter stuff, that must be a widespread problem. My local TJ MAXX has ZERO winter stuff or even jackets to speak of.

plantmom:

Sounds like you’ve found a promising gym option. Just being able to carve out a block of time on a cable column is the basis for a pretty good workout. On the “cable ab crunch”, I think the latest thinking is that those do more harm (to your spine) that good. An easy substitution that will get your abs and love handles burning is the cable Pallof Press:

[Pallof Press - YouTube](<a href=“Amazing Exercise for Your Core: The Pallof Press - YouTube”>Amazing Exercise for Your Core: The Pallof Press - YouTube)

Try to hold it in the arms extended position for a few seconds. You can either do it standing like in the video, or kneeling on two knees. It is a lot harder than it looks! Can also be done with stretchy resistance bands.

I seriously doubt PlantMom has love handles. Plenty of love, yes, but no love handles.

I for one, would love to land a Livestrong item or two at TJ.

My TJ has a gorgeous light gray Livestrong running jacket. It’s been there for a while. I just don’t need another running jacket!

I don’t recall the timing of the scandal but I’ve detached Livestrong from Armstrong myself so it wouldn’t bother me to wear the stuff. I did not see any Livestrong stuff yesterday at Marshalls. But I’ll keep an eye out for it.

Not that I really need any more clothes right now.

Love handles in the generic sense… referring to the oblique muscles. :)

Man, I need some good motivation to get myself rolling with an at home workout today. Yesterday Abasket’s big race and MOWC’s from Saturday had me all psyched to go for it on the treadmill (my version of Arnold, lol). Today I guess I’ll just have to crank up the tunes!

Yesterday: 2 miles, 1,948 calories.
Today: 5 miles, calories: TBD.

Attending a track and field officials meeting. The last half hour of discussion has been on what girls can and cannot wear in their hair. This could bet last day on earth…

Be my last day on earth! Spelling error.

Feeling the same way Deborah T–no motivation. I had to really give myself a pep talk to get through a kettle bell workout DVD. Now, I’ll walk the dog and get in a .6 mile walk. After that, I’m going to bed.

1,323 calories, 20.1% carbs.

I enjoy food too much on the weekends.

Have to go to a family dinner tomorrow. The dinner will be nice - just have to watch the calories.

Music really helps me. My 15 year old will put on an exercise video. (They all seem to have crappy canned music) , mute it, then play her own tunes to workout to- once I hear her tunes, it’s more appealing to join in!!!

Does everyone listen to music when they run/hike/walk , etc?? I always do for running, but sometimes don’t for walking.

I listen to music when I run on the treadmill. I enjoy the scenery when I run outside.

I generally watch one of the TVs at the gym while I’m on the treadmill. Outside I listen to music (iPod) about 70% of the time. The rest I just pay attention to my surroundings. I never race with music. Lots of people do, but I like to be aware of the other runners and what’s going on in the race.

Thanks idad for the cable abs link. I have neglected the abs since my favorite gym and its ab machine are off limits right now. Of course, fit son tells me I don’t need any machine, and I know this, but somehow the weight lifting circuit of machines all in a row help me knock off those exercises that I’m less enthusiastic about doing (like ab strengtheners). And no real love handles to speak of (thank you Deb T), but there’s the almost year-round pressure of being bathing suit ready :o

I almost always listen to music when I’m walking (or running) outside on the streets, but never, ever when I’m hiking on the trails. I love the sounds of nature. Besides, I have to listen for rattlesnakes…
