Having equipment at home certainly helps - it takes away excuses for working out when you don’t feel like it. I have a lot of choices for working out indoors - the basement, my office (aerobic machines, weight equipment, balls, devices, etc.), and two YMCAs. I could work out at my son’s apartment but it’s not worth a drive to Boston to just workout. We have high 50s today so I might try a short run outside today - depends on my schedule as I have a lot of chores to do.

I’m taking it easy. I went to the gym this morning and lifted heavy things over my head. Started to get muscle spasms in my back, so I decided to back off. Took a hot shower and aspirin, and we’ll see how it goes.

OMG- Loved post#25700!
Yes!
Low carb, Burpees, etc. etc. I blame iDad!

LOL! That’s great!

My home equipment:
-15kg Kettlebell
-36"x6" foam roller
-The GRID foam roller
-Posture Ball (foam roller material)
-Stretching strap
-Various minibands
-Yoga mat

My gym is just down the road (1/2 mile) and it is fully equipped. Probably the only things I wish it had would be an AirDyne and a VersaClimber…

Home gym here includes: living room, 1#, 3#, 6#, and 8# weights, stability ball, Bodylastics, stairs, counter, and kitty litter bag. Plus the rotating supply of health related library books with an occasional purchase of one. I blame iDad!

Yes, I blame idad for the extra reading I’ve been doing, and maybe partially for some of the new clothes :)

My home gym equipment: assorted dumbbells, one 10 lb kettlebell, yoga mat, stability ball (almost never take it out of the closet, though), one comfort bike, running shoes, heart rate monitor–with strap. The gym I’ve been working out in is about 9 miles away. Wish it were closer, but happy to have one at all.

My home gym includes
Full weight lifting rack and bench with pull down cables, row cables, leg extension component etc.
Pull up/chin up bar
Power block db set
assorted dbs, kettle bells
tread mill
rowing machine
ski erg machine
nordic track machine
spin bike
bosu ball
swiss ball
xertubes
med balls
mats, foam rollers and probably a bunch of stuff I am forgetting

I almost never use any of it
I would rather run outside, take a class or work with a trainer. Fortunately, there are others who do make use of most of the stuff.

The gym is closed today so I’ll be doing stretch/strength/core. I blame iDad!

Also going to take advantage of the sunshine! Yippee!

The Y is closed so I’m going to run outside for a bit and may go to the office for a bit more. There’s some stuff I have to take care of for work anyways. I’m trying to figure out what to wear. 55 degrees, sunny and rather breezy. Most people I see working out have long-sleeve shirts on. Some shorts and some tights.

BC, you need a pair of man-pris. :)

I get cold easily so I wear capris at that temperature. If I were a guy I’m guessing I’d wear shorts.

I have Nike lightweight track pants - always a good solution when I’m not sure.

Rainy but I’m going to run anyway. I know I won’t want to tonight, so might as well do it now! I blame PlantMom for successfully completing C25K!

My “home gym” - 5 pound dumbbells, 10 lb kettlebell, yogamat and a bunch of DVDs.

Best news of the day: I raided D’s closet for her rejects. Several of the pieces were items I had bought for myself but then got too fat to wear. Guess what? They are TOO BIG. Guess what? Most of the items intended for her use were also TOO BIG. Normally this would make me sad over perfectly good clothing gone to waste, but not any longer! Woo hoo!

Sorry for being overly enthusiastic. Back to regular programming!

You can send the rack and the spinning bike my way I’ll make sure to use them :)

Forgot I have a 6-pound medicine ball too…

Good 1/2 hr workout which included pallof press for the very first time. :)

MOWC:

Hah. ValSliding around mall. I might have to try that. Hell, I’ve done [burpees on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial](http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=4wpKLMW3jnY). Maybe, it is all my fault…

kmcmom:

Good job on the intervals. You’ll notice that I wimped out an only did four at a time. Six is probably the right number to really max out the heart rate with each set. I just hadn’t done that workout in so long that I wasn’t sure I could do six of each… and I hate having to stagger off the Airdyne, beaten.

I started doing sets of intervals when I realized that trying to do 10 or 12 consecutive intervals was just miserable beyond belief. When you’re heart rate is already off the charts and you’ve got four or five more intervals to go… no fun. Then, it’s just a matter of survival… how long can keep going with the heart rate above 90%? Makes for good YouTube videos, but I’m not sure there’s a lot of fitness benefit in that. Getting there? Absolutely. But, sustained exercise at 90% heart rate? I don’t know.

The WorkOut Muse iPod interval soundtracks were often sets of intervals. That’s where I got the ideal of doing cominations of different length intervals.

Your poor son. Sounds like he’s starving himself for da girl. What we do for love, huh? I’ll be tearing into my own steak later on. I believe this will be the first grilled rib eye of the year, although I’ve grilled flank steak in the snow a couple of times…

CJANE:

Darn, CJ. You really are an animal! The PowerBlock DB set would be sweet. Not to mention the rack and cables. What you need is a good warmup that tricks you into thinking working out won’t be so bad! I just start the warmup and by the time I realize that the workout isn’t going to be fun, I’m already committed.

Deb:

Those are called “basketball shorts” in the men’s department. Come down to about mid-shin. Worn with an oversized baseball cap and guaranteed to make any guy look like a complete doofus. Another great look (that you see in the gallery a lot on TV golf tournaments) is the fat guy with a polo shirt and oversized khaki cargo shorts cinched up under the belly and extending down to mid-shin. Yikes. Hide the women and children. It’s truly an unfortunate era in men’s shorts fashion…

How did you enjoy the pallof press? It’s a good one that can be done just as well with resistance bands as a pulley.

Yay, Sabaray!

That’s enough to put a little spring in your step!

When I was moving some stuff around in the basement, I was transferring some file crates to a closet and came across the suit bag hanger labeled: “FAT GUY JEANS and SPORT COAT”. These were the two items I bought at the absolute highest weight. Size 44 inch jeans. I can’t remember the jacket size. I’ve kept them just to try on from time to time in case I ever get tempted to buy a 2-liter bottle of Pepsi.

I like that exercise pretty well. Next time I’ll try tighter bands. This time I went with 6 lbs so I can see how I feel later. I didn’t notice the effect on the obliques so much as the lats and other back/shoulder muscles, maybe in a few hours?

Murray beat Ferrer at Miami. Murray had some fatigue problems earlier but Ferrer cramped up in the third-set tiebreaker. These are the two superfit guys on the tour. But my guess if that Ferrer didn’t get enough electrolytes through the match.

You can also try Pallof press from a kneeling position: both knees on a mat or pad. That will take the legs out of the equation. Probably need less resistance.

Ouch. I hope that is gone quickly!

My problem area in doing overhead lifts (and I think it’s really common) is arching my back when the weight gets too heavy or I get too tired. It’s a “cheat” to turn the lift into more of a chest press than an overhead press (because you are tilting backwards). It’s also rough on the low back. So whenever I feel myself unable to lift without arching the back, I know that’s enough for that set and maybe time to back off on the weight.
