Bromfield, just from reading that workout I think I need a foam roller massage and trip to the whirlpool!

Stretch/strength/core. I’ve been going overboard on the core lately, which I actually do as the middle part of my routine.

Stability ball update: On the upside, I can do solid sets of dead bug and hamstring curls. I decided to try those toe touch thingies from the video iDad posted yesterday. Hahahahahahaha. Yeah, it took me forever just to get accustomed to balancing the ball under my feet in that position. Best try was two so-so reps (a rep including one touch on each side). A little better on the roll ins (is that what they’re called?), but still only two reps. The mountain climber like exercise – not ready to try it. I think that one would probably be beyond me.

Bit the bullet and bought two pairs of running shoes. Went to our local running store, got great advice, realized I needed more than one pair of shoes and went for it. Saucony Omni 11 and Nike Zoom Structure 16. They feel great. How does one refer to the model of a running shoe anyway? Owner also told me about a 4 miler coming up in August that I’m going to aim for. Evidently I am doing okay.

Still really hot today, so I’m heading to the gym for weights. Blargh.

Sabaray, it sounds like they determined you need a stability shoe.

Yup! No doubt about it. They feel great. I spend very little money on myself but I thought these were expenditures that were well worth it.

Wear them in the best of health. :)

Nice, sabaray! I would just refer to them the way you wrote it- maybe shorten it a little to “Omnis” etc. Fun to have 2 new pairs!

Deborah- good workout. You are really getting after it! I’m doing the Valslides every night for at least 1 set of the plank things where you slide your hand forward and then back. I think it is hard and I can’t do more than 10 at a time.

Just as a quick aside, that’s an expression I grew up with. Sometimes I’ll look up idioms on Google and don’t find them. Is that expression something others here are accustomed to hearing to wish you well when you get something new?

ETA - cross posted

MOWC, I have no doubt that if I get the ValSlides they will kill me!

Sabaray, I only think in terms of words like stability or, in my case, neutral so I know what I’m looking for when buying a new pair or trying to compare to another brand.

Ran with hs distance crew today.

Mile warmup. Dynamic stretching/strides. 1600/1200/800/400 ladder. Didn’t do the rest of the ladder–800/1200/1600. Ran fast for me but still at the back of the pack.

Mile warmdown. So far they are treating the old man with respect.

Speaking of different types of running shoes, last time I was at the local running store, trail running shoes were featured prominently on display. I picked up a couple of the shoes to look at them more closely (not that I could tell much, lol!). The main thing I noticed is that they were light as a feather. Do you have to have really strong muscles, feet, ankles, calves, knees, everything to wear those? Barely any shoe there.

You mean what we know, Deborah! I am really excited to try them out. I’m also going to order some new socks - the ones BB recommended. I have gift certificates from Petsmart to use on Amazon!

Does this mean Sabadog will also be getting trail running booties?

Only if you want to come over and help me wrestle him into them. :D

I don’t know that Sabadog will ever be suited to long runs. He is a heavy boned English lab and they generally are not built for speed or distance. Sabadog’s objective is to compete in obedience. Sometimes he remembers this.

5 miles, big dinner (french fries, fish, eggs, salad). I have work to do tonight.

Nice, Sabaray! You are doing great with your running! Zoom, that was saba lapping me
You deserve new, comfy shoes and socks!

It was about 90 today; too hot for my liking. I picked three pounds of blueberries this morning, rode six miles on my bike this afternoon, and walked two miles with H before dinner. Enough for the day.

Good shoes made all the difference to me. I too, have shoes with the thick support (I know that’s not what it’s called…) like you Sabaray. I had a lot of ankle motion at the beginning and these really helped. I hope that MAYBE at some point I can get something a little less bulky to alternate with the supportive ones.

2 mile +treadmill run - some days just can’t get more time than that!!!

There are still heavier, traditional trail running shoes, but most of the manufacturers have also come out with minimalist or lower profile trail shoes.

I had to run on the dreadmill after work because we were having scary thunderstorms. 3.1 low heart rate.

I’m almost embarrassed to say (this makes me eligible for the Stupid award) that I have 2 races this Saturday. 5k followed by 10k. The 5K is a corporate challenge race and the 10K is the running club Grand Prix race points race. A lot of people put them together as a long run, but I wouldn’t be going near this race if it wasn’t for the corporate and Grand Prix stuff. I expect to be extremely slow and doubt I’ll quite make the start of the 10K.

Still can’t run the right side is still too painful. But I have no problem with my pushups, so that’s good. The head is much clearer today, which means I could revisit the work I’ve done this week and look for errors to correct. I hope that is a sign that the antibiotic is working.

Sabaray, your speedy feet deserve the treat! LOL about putting shoes on Sabadog!

MOfWC, there is nothing embarrassing about being the toughest runner on the block. Be proud and good luck with the races! Something tells me that you will make the start of the 10K.

Here is some food for thought about eating unhealthy food:

Some of us use aftermarket insoles like Superfeet or New Balance Ultra-Arch. I use the latter and they provide farm more cushioning than the stock insoles but they are also thicker and run about $45 for a pair. I think that the Superfeet are a little less but I use the other because I’ve been using it for many years and it keeps my feet happy.

I ran with trail shoes for a while (found about five pairs on special in my size). They seemed fine - maybe a little blockier like a Jeep compared to a car.

1,788 calories today and I guess I’m okay. Not full; somewhat hungry, feel like going to Dominos.

BTW, here’s some evidence that carbs, bread in particular, are addictive and profitable.
