PlantMom, glad your favorite gym is once again available for use! Dinner sounds good as well.

CJane, I just cringe reading your workouts. Wow.

Bromfield, I am seriously jealous. The last time H had an assignment it was in Las Vegas; SF sounds like a heck of a lot more fun.

BCE, the Nikes aren’t uncomfortable; it is just a very different experience. I was wearing New Balance that I had bought <ahem> several years ago at Penney’s from their sale rack. They were not comfortable. In fact, they were too small for running, by a lot. Technically they fit, by as I ran my foot was swelling and pushing against the end, hence my resulting hideous toe. </ahem>

Beautiful day here. Cool this morning but sunny. Hope the New England weather improves.

So, apparently it’s actually called a goblet carry. KB held in goblet position away from chest and carried with engaged core length of turf and back.
The crawling was on hands and knees with a cook bar balanced on the lower back. Had to crawl length of turf forward and backward while balancing the bar.

I forgot we also did another kb complex:

Deadlift x 10, Pull to Catch x 10, Goblet Squat x 5

Bromfield, you would like this class. Next time your h. travels, have him aim a little farther north from SF Enjoy your West Coast stay.
KMC - it’s great that others are noticing your results!
Wrapping my head around the fact that MOWC has two back to back races coming up…

Personally, I won’t be getting any exercise in today. Out of town visitor coming for one week stay, and it will be tough getting away at all during that time. Also, different dietary expectations are making me a little angsty. Will be bringing in bagels, pastries, burger buns, potatoes, and various high carb items for guest, not really loving the idea of having that stuff in the house. Oh, and PopTarts ironically are on the list, too.

That has been my experience as well. You can “hurt” yourself from a conditioning, panting, heart rate standpoint, but it seems to be foolproof in terms of not hurting knees and stuff. Zero impact. I’ve even done short 8 second intervals absolutely as fast has I can make it go and not ever felt like I was going to pull a muscle or anything. I think you probably can hurt yourself on a regular exercise spin bike. I’ve always felt like pedaling fast against low resistance was a pullled muscle waiting to happen.

Fantastic that people are noticing your new fit look! That’s good motivation!

Well, that’s done! Hammer down in the 5K since my place was more important for the corporate challenge stuff- 3rd in age group with 29:15, which I am pretty happy with all things considered. Last mile was 9:04. The 10K was starting as I was finishing, so I had to flip around to the other side of the street and get started. Gorgeous morning- 44 to 53 degrees and sunny. FLAT course (unusual for Nashville) with 2 or more miles of the 10K up on a levy by the river with a nice view of downtown. 10K 1:01:50, which is not a good time for me, but I’ll take it today! 2nd in age group because someone bumped up to GrandMaster’s winner. Had chocolate milk, ice cream sandwich and pasta (in that unfortunate order) after the race. I was running near a really large guy in the last mile plus of the 10K (not fat so much as HUGE- football player-ish) and I was annoyed because I couldn’t really get around him without swinging out and I didn’t want to move at that point, and when I pulled up next to him he would speed up. He beat me down the finish stretch and came up to me afterwards and was SO nice and complimentary! I felt bad for being annoyed about him!
Not sure yet how we placed as a corporate team.

Great workout! Are these goblet walks with the weight held fairly close to the chest, or with your arms fully extended? That second version would be really, really tough.

6.6 miles, mostly down hill on the way out, mostly uphill on the way back. I have a real appreciation for your running abilities MOWC, as I my body is pretty tired after today’s run. Note to self: avoid cookies, ice cream and wine the night before the upcoming 10k race.

Good job on the runs. I know what you mean about someone blocking you - I ran into that on the highway yesterday.

Saw several vehicles on the road with outdoor equipment today. I guess the weather is starting to get to the point where that stuff is more doable. I was going to run outside today but 50 degrees and overcast isn’t my cup of tea. The forecast for the weekend was sunny and warmer.

Nice job, MoWC!
What a reward, KMC! So glad other people are noticing the results. I’m enjoying your posts about your workouts
Bromfield, woohoo to your time in CA. Sounds like a perfect opportunity.
Cjane–your workouts sound so intense, my face reddens and HR elevates thinking about them. Nice to see the tailoring and I bet the mirrors are showing more than you’re noticing.

H and I rode our bicycles today (warm, humid, need rain). We had also intended to take a short hike in a nature preserve. Unfortunately, the hiking trails were all closed because part of the boardwalk at the center, along with some of the bordering wooded area had been burned, suspected arson. So, the positive is that the forest desperately needed a burn and now it’s done, but it should have been a prescribed or controlled burn to avoid shutting the place down.

Yeah- not exactly what an older person should be doing… I wore the Hokas for the longer races (and today) which I think goes a long way to saving my legs. Clown shoes, maybe, but boy that cushioning is nice.

I just can’t think of you as an older person, MOWC. Your running is nothing short of incredible!

KMC, I think you and I were posting around the same time this morning, but am so glad to hear others are noticing your progress. That has to make you feel good!

Hit the elliptical at the gym this morning; SabaH is working today so SabaSon and I went off to Costco, then ran Sabadog. Sabadog and I just returned from the park where he made some new friends and we got in an additional three miles of walking. He needs a lot of exercise.

The weather forecast for the next race I was planning to run is not looking promising. I still have a few days before I have to commit. We shall see. I am willing to run in the rain, but I don’t go out of my way to pay to do it, lol.

We have many races to choose from in this area. It’s no big deal if I don’t get to do this one.

I will not run in the rain but that’s only because I haven’t done it and I don’t know what’s required in terms of shoes, balance, running style and clothes. I suppose that it would be nice to learn this and get equipped for it but I’m just working on running when it’s below 50 degrees these days. The sun didn’t really come out today as forecast.

Your balance doesn’t have to be that great or I wouldn’t be able to do it. More of an issue to me is ice (yikes) or a deceptive – hard to tell what it is – mushy ice with leaves combo.

We get a lot of light, on and off rain in this area, so it’s good to be willing to deal with it for running to at least some degree.

In general, I don’t walk, run or drive on ice.

When I say balance, I’m talking about how fast I can go, how fast I can take a curve or corner without taking a spill. I’ve had a few spills on the tennis court lately, one that resulted in an ankle strain. I at least have the racquet to help prevent a fall but wouldn’t have something like that on a run.

Finished my first century ride today. Flat course 103 mi total time 6:07. I beat my goal by 3 miles and 23 minutes. But unlike, MOWC, I am taking tomorrow off.
