Abasket - i always check out the runners. I can pretty much guess what anyone’s mile pace is.

Ugh…more snow this morning. Wonder when it will all melt so I can walk outside.

OhioPublic you just ruined my day! I was hoping I look a lot faster than I am actually going- espec in the low HR runs!

That’s so wonderful, abasket! Woohoo!

saba, there’s an article on nbc news about the secret lives of cats who wander furtively once the front door is opened, being outed with gps technology. Made me think of sabadog’s adventure. (NOT that sabadog would ever act like a cat :-)

Condolences on the snow… :(

35 degrees, windy, raining cats & dogs with a hint of sleet. Ahhh… perfect weather for…

Airdyne Intervals!

I may have been an ol’ (formerly) fat guy bent over panting like a dog, but at least I looked good in my new Nike short shorts, mopping my brow with my Augusta National sweat towel. Too cold out to open a window next to the bike!

3 minute warmup

Three sets, recover to 70% heart rate in between:

5 reps: 10 seconds hard, 50 seconds easy
5 reps: 15 seconds hard, 45 seconds easy
5 reps: 20 seconds hard, 40 seconds easy

2 minute cooldown

Max heart rate of 96% of my max on the last interval (which I started above 90%). I don’t know if this is good, bad, or indifferent, but I’m feeling Airdyne intervals in my abs now…

I am stocked up for my annual carb fest. For Masters weekend, I’ll have Augusta National style ham and cheese on rye sandwiches for lunch.

Will be out of town tomorrow on a girls shopping trip so went and ran treadmill again today. I usually try to do every other day of actual running with other stuff in between . Feel like I got my homework done so now I get to have fun!!!

Just finished week 3 of C25K. Tried out the Nikes and didn’t cover quite as much distance (2.58 miles), but definitely a different running experience. The shoes will take some getting used to. Question for you all - when adjusting to my new shoes, should I alternate them or should I work on one pair at a time?

PlantMom, I will check that nbc story out. I’ve seen different trackers you can use in the field to track your wayward dog…thinking that might be the next investment…

Wow end of week 3 already - you’re flying thru it !

I read over and over that distance isn’t as important as a good, healthy for your body run - taking care of your feet, ankles, etc. more distance, better speed can come later. Technique is more important.

sabaray- I would alternate the shoes. Congrats on finishing week 3!

iDad- but no one gets to SEE you! I got a good race picture from Indiana, but posting pics here is too big of a chore- otherwise I would do so. The pics from St.Louis aren’t great- I look OK but there are a lot of people in my picture (including my friends).

Need to wean myself off the treadmill. Thinks it gives you a false sense of security of how fast you can go.

Ran 5 miles indoors on the gym track. I’m too much of a wimp to run in cold once the weather breaks. Alternated fast/slow. Think we used to call it fartlek training.

MOWC - good article in this months Running Times on SMOs / Shiny Medal Objects race awards

I’d love to see photos of some of the regulars, especially with the amazing before and after accomplishments. Alas.

Mixed work-outs today. Run walk this morning and walk this evening for a total of 5 miles. Very warm today. My favorite gym opened up again, so fit teen son and I went this afternoon. I used the treadmill to warm up, and then did some faster 200 meter runs for 2.5 kilometers, watching the heart rate. Felt very good. I also took a trip around the weight machines and did the New Rules Core exercises. S2 was ecstatic to get back to the gym for the arm work.

Sushi, salad, and a beer for dinner.

Before and after pictures are in this thread but good luck finding them. I plan to post an updated series this summer.

An hour of tennis (just hitting) and 5.7 miles. Good shot at a 40-mile week for me.

If you felt perfectly fine in the other shoes but have some discomfort with the Nikes, could you return them? I wore uncomfortable shoes for about 25 years until I discovered that shoes could be comfortable from their first use.

I thought maybe you were going to see the Boston Marathon on Monday.

BTW, I was down in the West End on Patriots Day weekend last year and there were lots of people at Whole Foods wearing their Boston Marathon warmups. I thought that they looked really nice. Some weeks later, I saw them at Marshalls. Last year it was very warm and I think that a lot of people deferred to this year so maybe they had a lot of spare warmups. I did think about buying one.

Continued good work by everyone (and their spouses!)
Picked up my clothes from alterations and am definitely liking the visual progress.

Not quite as much as I was liking being in the stretching room in the world’s best gym which has an appropriately “stretching” mirror. Day-um, if I really looked like that, I would be more than satisfied. How shocking the rude awakening to face the real mirrors in the locker room – and then even worse, the mirrors in the department store changing room

Kettle Bell class today: Bunch of stretches and mobility moves. Circuit of get ups, kb halos and crawling with bars on our backs. Making nice progress on the get up.
Then multiple sets of KB swings, goblet squats and goblet walks.
Followed by an hour of stairmaster. Then DB chest presses with 28 lb. dbs. Then stretching, foam rolling, followed by sauna. Felt like I spent half the day there!

Trust me, you don’t want to see an ol’ (formerly) fat guy doing Airdyne intervals. Even my cats leave the room.

I did get great music today. Got a sad country song to kick it off:

[One Shot, One Beer, and a Kiss Before I Go](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6NnRbpsIRgs)

And, when i needed a little energy in the third set, I got some good Neville Brothers New Orleans funk:

[Brother John/Iko Iko](http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGyrWBK1xos)

Is that Monday? I hope the weather is better than it was today!

Good workouts, everyone! Me, I rode the ferry today. First time in a while. Long day but fun.

Killer workout CJane! What’s a goblet walk? Also, not sure about crawling on your back–need a visual. Too bad we don’t live near one another–we seem like the same kinds of workouts.

I did nothing today–walked a few miles because I was in the city visting my oldest D. I’m getting ready to leave for CA. Going to be out there with my H. He’s got a big project and has been commuting between CA and MA. It’s getting old and he’s rented an apartment (cheaper than a hotel) and is planning on staying for two weeks at a time. I’m not working now, so there’s no reason I can’t go. He’s convinced me that there are lots of fitness options in San Franciso, including lots of places to walk and hike.

Fantastic! Enjoy SF, Bromfield!

A basket, congrats to your h! That’s truly wonderful! Mch is still slowly reducing (he’s down 24 but has a long way to go yet) but his relationship with exercise, including the airdyne, is somewhat unrequited. It sits there all shiny, stationed right beside his favorite couch, awaiting his rapt attention to no avail…

I’ll be glad when it warms up and I can open the pool. The pool at least gets him off the couch ;)

Idad, I can completely picture the airdyne scenario you describe because I resemble that remark…minus the “formerly” part. I am only adding ten minutes to my walk, so you wouldn’t think I’d be a pool of goo after, but ime you really can knock yourself out with a single set at 20:40 followed by a short set or arms-only. Three sets and full tabatas are a very distant chimera.

But I will say this – you also really cannot hurt yourself on that thing – at least in terms of alignment – the motion feels very “safe” and fluid and I am so very glad you inspired me to look into it because its wonderful to have a form of exertion/resistance that is so mechanically simple and for which you cannot ave bad form!

Speaking of inspiration, some girls at my office building keep asking me what I’m doing because the weightloss and shape, while still just under 25, is fairly noticeable on a short woman. One of them asked the other day what I did during the pouring rain that morning. I answered “I put on my spikes and went up the hill.” She was shocked I’d do that in cold, almost freezing rain. I told her that if you weren’t 100% unstoppable with a commitment, pretty soon you’d find yourself 50% stopped. So now she’s decided if the old broad can get up the hill every morning in sleet or snow or rain, so can she ;)

So I’m getting excited about getting the kayak out this year to treat myself to some nice trips on our river and am looking for a good but casual/slide on water shoe. Does anyone own the chaco hip thongs? Would they be a good bet? I know folks on our local multisport team like em.
