Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Yeah, definitely. Enjoy those walks while you can!

5 pound party. 36 pounds down. I’m seeing a weight I haven’t seen in oh, ten years. I have to say that weight loss is extremely motivating.

See, kmc, I told you this was a good thread to hang out on.

Yay for Saba’s 5 pound party and fantastic 36 pound total loss!!

For those of us who watch Dr. Oz from the treadmill - his guest today is the “Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead” guy. This is something I’m actually interested in.

Congrats sabaray!!! You and kmc have really done well. Your family must be so proud of your success. And of course sabdog is thrilled with your walks! :)

I tape Dr.Oz every day. I enjoy hearing about new strategies to lead a healthy life but I get so confused as to all the foods and supplements that are suggested.

Don’t feel bad northMinnesota ,I expect Dr Oz is confused too.
;)

Ten year best party for Sabaray. :)

Congrats, sabaray! I bet Sabadog is proud, too!

I am going to need to do a 3 hour run in PA this weekend to get ready for the next marathon I’m doing (York, PA) and I’m going to have to do it alone. And I’m going to have to start it no later than 6am since I have commitments there both weekend days at 11. Just Do It (or whatever the Brooks and Hoka equivalent is…). At least it is flat and a nice path. WildChild’s big race is Sunday in St. Croix and I’m a nervous wreck. His bike case is so big that he couldn’t take a cab to the airport in Phila- he had to have a friend with a SUV take him.

Sabaray certainly deserves the reward for the efforts in both exercise and diet. I’m debating whether or not to try another round of dropping calories by 200/day for a while. As everyone knows, it’s tough to do when you’ve been on maintenance for a while. Even maintenance can take some effort.

It’s going to be tough keeping it under 2,000 this year at this rate.

Congrats Sabaray! Nice job.

Walking again today–3 miles. Travel day yesterday; not much chance for activity except when in the airport and changing planes. I had a long layover in Minneapolis and had to go from one terminal to another. Decided to do some extra walking once I got to my gate. There were lots of carts driving people around–several drivers stopped and asked me if I wanted a ride. I was starting to get paranoid wondering if I looked like I needed a ride or if they thought I needed one because I was walking really fast!

Yeah Sabaray. Party time. Does this mean that you are now losing “new” weight? That’s fantastic…

Emerald:

Yeah. Dr. Oz is “confused” all the way to the bank, trotting out a never-ending parade of people with cures for what ails you and elixirs for eternal youth… He’s a showman. In a previous life, he would have been a success on the carnival midway.

Bromfield:

Huffing and puffing through airports at 250 pounds was one of the things that made me realize it was time to lose a few pounds and get a little exercise.

It is indeed new weight…about 23 pounds worth. I am sharing credit with sabadog; he wouldn’t ever let me feel sorry for myself and he’s a pretty compelling reason to exercise.

Bromfield, I vote for #2. You were walking really fast.

35 min outdoor run for me. Beautiful day, rolling hills, centipede, ducks, lots of familiar faces. :)

30 minute run today. I decided to run it a little faster just to see if I could, and since I was supposed to do intervals today, I’ll cheat and call this my speed work. I’m promising myself to do the intervals next week.

This is officially my new favorite shoe:
[Minimus 10V2 - New Balance - US](<a href=“Athletic Footwear and Fitness Apparel - New Balance”>Athletic Footwear and Fitness Apparel - New Balance)

I have the white one and I’m tempted to buy another pair, maybe the purple, so I have one in good shape for my half in October.

Do they throw in a pair of sunglasses with those shoes?

The shoes that I’m wearing are similarly colorful. I bought them because they have a larger toebox. I have one toe on each foot that have heavy bruises on them. I think that the bigger toebox helps.

Speaking of weight loss, I’m down 2.5 pounds on this workout program I started a week ago Monday. I haven’t made any changes to my diet, except that I laid off the pistachios and almonds a few weeks back. Change in exercise? Warmer weather? Less hiking. I don’t know. will this trend continue? I dunno…

Rachel needs to get you in one of her videos, iDad.

On shoes – which ones and why – I’ve been sticking with Mizuno because my feet and legs seem to like them. There are other shoes I’ve seen that I think are cuter, but for me, functionality is getting the win when it comes to running shoes.

Yeah, but idad, down how many DRESS SIZES? ;)

So happy for saba and kmc! Excellent news!

Maybe iDad could get an endorsement deal and get us all free videos.

I don’t look as good doing the exercises as Neghar Fonooni and the other woman doing the workouts in the videos!

I don’t actually get to watch the videos as I’m usually bent over panting just trying to do the exercises. So, they might as well be iPod audio-only workouts from my standpoint. I do try to watch them one time through before I do one for the first time. That’s pretty much the approach I took with the ipod nazi core workout videos. I just plug the kindle fire HD tablet into some powered computer speakers in the basement and put the tablet on the floor under the weight bench. I can see it if I need to, but I mostly listen.

I’ve pretty much got the workouts down pat and could go back to podcasts for background noise now. The biggest thing from the videos is how slow the tempo is on the lifts. That’s been great for the warm the core stuff. It really forces me to do the exercises really well. I’m struggling on some of the strength exercises as I just can’t go as slowly as the video and finish 15 reps. I’d have to go to lighter weights than I’m using on some stuff. Just depends on the exercise. Some things, I finish right on cue with the video.
