I don’t think that’s likely. I actually got an email forwarded from Rodale scolding me not to talk about the exercises in the workouts because then people won’t buy the book. Apparently they don’t realize that people talking about doing the workouts is what might make someone decide to buy the damn book!

Anyway, my answer to that is that I will never mention the title of a Rodale workout book or video again – and I own at least a half dozen from that publisher. From now on, I’m just doing a workout from “some book I found on the internet”. No mention of titles. No mention of authors. No links to Rodale sites where you can buy the stuff. Screw 'em… Sheesh.

That way, i can say that 15 reps on each leg of step ups kicked my butt without some idiot at Rodale getting all up in my grill.

idad, it looks like the moron who contacted you never studied marketing! What a great way to cultivate a bunch of followers!

Dr Oz and his moronic endorsements of supplements of dubious value… WTH are “raspberry ketones”? Our Costco was out of raspberries for several weeks after he had mentioned this stuff on his show!

Ahhhh… Sunshine. I am so not used to running in this kind of weather! I need to update my running gear… it looks like my beloved Garmin watch croaked. Too darn wet here in my neck of the woods! I’m looking at a replacement, perhaps, not as elegant as my watch, but water resistant:
[Garmin Forerunner® 310XT Sports Watch with Heart Rate Monitor](http://www.costco.com/Garmin-Forerunner®-310XT-Sports-Watch-with-Heart-Rate-Monitor.product.100018587.html) The description says it can go for a swim - maybe it will survive running under the pouring rain. :)

Bunsen- I have the 310XT and like it a lot. Occasionally I have to do a hard reset because it starts refusing to transfer data through the ANT stick. At the Garmin booth at last week’s Expo, they acted like I was in the dark ages with the 310 and they don’t make it anymore. However, they weren’t able to suggest a good replacement for my needs (the 910 or whatever it is is overkill for me). For now I’m holding fast with the 310XT.

Idad, that IS exasperating. I bought the book exactly because of your comments. Never, ever would have considered it–because of the title–otherwise. I don’t need to change my dress size, but hey–I would like to be as fit as the author.

3.75 miles of run/walk–keeping the HR lower. It has been raining, raining, raining. At the grey skies kept it cooler, in the 70’s.

5.22 miles. I was going to run outside this evening because the forecast was 73 and sunny. Instead it was 57, overcast and felt very, very windy. I saw a huge sign that was knocked over on an off-ramp near a mall. I feel pretty tired from the run and from the long day so I may just do some stretching and abs later on.

Props to the long run. When I did my rolling hills today I went ~three minutes faster total than I normally would on that run. Felt pretty good throughout and less affected by the uphills. Haven’t been doing intervals lately so I’m going to attribute it to the weekly long run.

I went down to the basement and did some random exercise circuit from the internet. It was like one of CJane’s declining ladder workouts.

Five exercises. Stuff like fake burpees (no pushup, no jump), air squats, reverse lunges, kettlebell cleans and so forth followed by 20 seconds of running in place.

Seven reps of each exercise in the first set with no rest. Then, rest.

Six reps of each in the second set.

Five reps in the third set.

And so on and so forth.

The kettlebell cleans killed me with the 36 pound bell. I just did them ugly, but I don’t think I bruised my arms that badly!

The running in place was killer after the long early sets. Saw a max heart rate of 96% at the end of the second set.

25 minutes total, including six 2 minute rests between sets.

Are the machines busy at your Planet Fitness? At the one I joined, the cardio equipment was always packed. Machines were mostly empty. Dumbbell/weightbench area was busy sometimes, not others.

interesteddad

It depends on the time of day. I go after work and the strength machines are busy sometimes but I just move to a different one if the one I want is in use. Either that or wait and enjoy the break.

My PF has a lot of cardio equipment. They get pretty busy but I can always find one to use.

Gym Day

Row intervals
Pilates/core (don’t feel like I am getting any better at all at this stuff btw, boring and uncomfortable)
KB swings
TRX rows
push ups
squats
deadlifts

The biggest problem I had at Planet Fitness was having to wait to get a spot on a cable pulley machine or the ONE place they had to do chin ups. Cable pulley sometimes got tied up by a couple of guys using both of them at the same time – doing like chest flies or lord knows what with the cable from one tower in each hand. I saw some crazy exercises there from time to time! Although, in fairness, I imagine some folk thought I was doing some crazy stuff. :)

Just random workouts I found on the internet, of course…

This is what I was talking about earlier. Dr Oz aka Costco raspberry killer: [Raspberry ketones, miracle fat burner? If Dr. Oz says so ? - Los Angeles Times](Are raspberry ketones a 'miracle' fat burner? Dr. Oz weighs in.)

What a crock of… Eat a bag of chips and then pop a few miracle pills.

It is such a crock, Bunsen. Tried it, doesn’t work!

“Only 20 percent of U.S. adults meet both the federal government’s aerobic and muscle-strengthening physical activity recommendations, officials say. However, the findings, published in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, a journal of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, also found nationwide nearly 50 percent of adults got the recommended amounts of aerobic activity and about 30 percent engaged in the recommended muscle-strengthening activity.”

Interesting. These numbers are better than I expected though the goals are are pretty modest.

^Interesting.

I have been working on the pull-up bar that attaches to a door frame–meaning whenever I pass it I hang from it, or jump up and slowly lower myself to the floor. I figure if I live long enough I’ll be able to do one pullup, which I used to be able to do…years ago…

The other day I found out my S can do 5 pullups, which I think is pretty good. The marines require 3 (of both men and women now).

Doesn’t look like I’m going to be becoming a marine anytime soon…

Darn. I don’t meet the government regulations for either diet or exercise! Too much fat not enough carbs and cardio… :)

Here ya go. Ben Bruno posted this one today:
