Yay! Back to the basement to test the hip with the workout that I bailed on last week.

The only thing I changed was not putting my leg up on the weight bench for the hip flexor stretch.

TRX planks. No pain.
DB front squats. No pain.
3 pt rows. No pain.
TRX pushups. No pain.
And, the one I was worried about. 50 lb single leg dead lifts. No pain!

Yay! It seems like my strategy of taking an extra day or two to make absolutely sure it’s healed worked. Probably a good thing to take a few days off every once in a while.

Actually, pretty good workout with the same weights and reps I’ve been using.

Ran 2.3 Thurs a.m. before work, Ran 3.4 on Sat. Walked six miles on Sunday. Did a fifteen mile bike ride this a.m., ate lunch and spent the rest of the day kayaking…fun day.

Amen. It was pretty minor pain, but it was pain in a place that was going to be a problem if it didn’t get better. Some things you can work around, but it’s hard to work around a gimpy hip…

I did the hill yesterday instead of treadmill…lovely and much tougher to navigate. Id forgotten just how step it really is…setting the dreadmill to 10 doesnt even touch it! Choked with poison ivy of course. Enjoyed a few good swims too. It’s good to be home, as much as I enjoyed being away.

Bought myself a thick exercise mat for the poolhouse to put beside the treadmill. I think if I move my mini plank-bird dog routine between the walk and swim portions of morning there’s a better chance of reliably doing them and the advantage of doing them when I’m already warmed up. Doing them in the house seems to be hit and miss in terms of frequency.

I just did an hour of brush clearing. I’m trying to rid just one area of invasive Chinese %$#@ honeysuckle, and honestly, after pruning and sawing to make a few decent piles, the area looks almost the same. This is a workout that can go on for some days!

:(

Time for iced tea and a rest. Oh, and a shower!

Edit: I also planted 4 perennials, so that means 4 holes dug. Yay me.

Good 5 mile run this morning up over the big hill into my old neighborhood. Good to have a little different route, even if I did have to climb the big hill to get back home. It was 65 degrees with lower humidity, which was nice.

Already above 65 and humid… I think I’m going for a run closer to the sunset tonight. I decided that I need to learn how to tackle hills better. My hill performance during the last race was pathetic.

New four-part BBC documentary on the fat loss industry. I watched the first episode last night, on diets:

[The Men Who Made Us Thin Episode One - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Fantastic stuff. Metrecal. Slim Fast. Atkins. Weight Watchers. Basic theme is that diets seldom work long term. I’m starting to see that switching my focus from losing weight to becoming more fit was a fortuitous thing indeed. Probably an essential step in actually maintaining fat loss over time.

Most ironic thing: All of the major diet products are owned and marketed by junk food companies. What a racket. Selling junk food as a diet plan to help people who have gotten fat eating junk food…

Part 2 is on the fitness industry and diets. Can’t wait.

The Men Who Made Us Thin Episode Two - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Here’s part 3:

[The Men Who Made Us Thin Episode Three - YouTube](<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube)

Idad, fantastic stuff, indeed! I began to watch during my lunch break but had to run an errand. I think I flattened up my muscles pretty well by laughing at the blowing balloons nonsense! Yup, and a cup of coffee will get me going in the morning - not! I will finish watching tonight.

Kettlebell circuit in the basement. The usual six reps each on one side, six reps each on the other:

Suitcase deadlift
KB Cleans
KB front squat
KB push press

90 seconds rest between sets.

I did the first two sides without putting the KB down between sides. Had to stop and pant a few times between sides on the third and fourth sets.

This is just a diabolical little circuit. It shouldn’t be that hard, but it’s all the workout I can handle with a 35 lb kettlebell. The push presses at the end are almost as bad as the Airdyne for sucking all the oxygen out of my lungs…

Still a good solid 18 minute workout. I’m finally getting the hang of the KB cleans without slamming the KB against the back of my forearm…

I’m guessing that you probably deserve the “You are an animal” award for the brush clearing workout. That has got to be hard, hot sweaty exercise.

I started on Episode 2 of the BBC documentary. This one is on the origins of the failed premise that exercise works for fat loss. It starts out with Richard Simmons and Jane Fonda. Now, there’s a one-two blast from the past…

30 minute treadmill run - humid even in the gym. Been operating on 4.5 hours of sleep all day after an out of town concert last night and a full day at work - lucky I even got there, happy I got something in!!
