3 miles outside. Punched the clock in between the rain. I actually got lucky as is been raining all day. Super humid, it wasn’t my best effort but it’s done.

H is putting together our new treadmill tonight. The rain was good for something ;)

Thanks for the links, idad. I’ve gotta carve out some time soon to watch those.

You guys are troopers, running in the heat!

I missed my pool a lot while I was gone, so am actually enjoying our mini and belated summer heat wave. I celebrated with aquajogging instead of the hill yesterday, and I think I’ll do the same today :)

So far, the vacation weight would seem as if it will depart quickly…must have been a fair amt of water/or wheat inflammation as I’ve dialed down a few pounds already. Of course, company is skedded for the long weekend, so staying “in recovery mode” will present a slight hostess challenge :)

Cut down more Chinese honeysuckle this morning (yes, already, before it got hot) with my bow saw & pruners. The largest trunk was about 4" in diameter. Hence the song. :)

I could hire a landscaper, but where would I get my exercise?

Nice run, Deborah! I eked out 5 miles this morning and felt tired. Thought about cutting it short, but I have a business dinner so this was it for the day, and it’s getting REALLY hot these days. August seems to have arrived!

I have been doing my usual stuff, but haven’t had much time to post. Monday was weights, Tuesday rest, today will be weights again.

Felt really light headed on the DB high step ups and had the trainer spot me, because I felt like I was in danger of falling. Cut my last set short because of that. Felt like I was going to pass out at the end of the workout and afterward. I have always had low blood pressure and have had occasional brief fainting spells when it dips too low. Was feeling that same way after the workout and measured my BP on a monitor that has been pretty consistently accurate in the past and measured other members accurately–

I’m tired, too, MOWC. It’s not really hot here, rained last night, but sometimes I don’t feel like contending with the gentle rolling hills on the local trail. When I do a long run there, sometimes one or two of the people I see regularly start counting laps, lol. That part’s kind of fun, but I need to find a good spot for a long run where I’m not retracing my steps so much. I like variety (says she who chose 60 mins of running on the treadmill as an alternative?!).

CJane, go eat some food! (says Deborah, concerned)

Hi all. I’m back from dropping fit son off at college and having a bit of vacation time up north. Empty nest syndrome! But that is not a complaint. While we were gone, S2 and I worked out on a temporary Y membership. I also did quite a bit of walking and took Zumba classes. Still, the heavier food added a pound or two. I have returned to my exercise program at the local gym I frequent while it is so steamy. Today I did a 3 mile treadmill run and a drop two dress sizes strength workout. It is great to be back in my own kitchen! I hope you’re all well!

Welcome home, PlantMom! So you’re the one who stole my lb, hm? Give it back! <prepares to="" wrestle="" plantmom="" for="" wayward="" lb=""></prepares>

Hey, the last two people I flew with do the Insanity DVD’s. Both of them are really excited about it, and both of them look really great. Has anyone on here done Insanity? They sound very hard!

I watched a couple of them. I’m a big fan of interval training, but I could never keep up with those DVDs. Too fast paced. Not enough rest between exercises. In practice (and unlike the superfit ringer models on the DVDs) this generally leads to really crappy form that is essentially pure cardio exercise.

Ah, sounds like the Jillian Michaels DVD’s that I already paid $120 for…that I got halfway through the first one and put in my closet. Maybe I should just retrieve those from the dust mites and try again, instead of wasting the money.

Quite similar pacing. From what I saw, Insanity did use generally good bodyweight exercises. Just no rest. If I really did those exercises full-bore, my heart rate would hit 90%+ of my max and stay there. That’s not sustainable, and definitely not smart exercise.

I think the way to do those kinds of workouts is to alternate 30 to 180 seconds of exercise with enough rest in between to drop the heart rate again.

So 30 seconds of exercise alternating with 30 seconds of rest. Or the kettlebell circuit I did yesterday was 150 seconds of exercise alternating with 120 seconds of rest.

The ideal way to do it is to use a heart rate monitor to dictate the rest. That way you are tailoring the rest to each individual’s exact fitness.

Almost back to my -40 and disappointed to learn there’s a business function I’m to attend tonight…not because I’m antisocial but because I really don’t want a restaurant meal in the middle of my “recovery” week, particularly when I have another the following day and company after that. Will have to practice that Frenchwoman thing :)

KMC, I think you are doing great. Life comes along, and one must adjust!

Super hot and rainy here yesterday, but got my 5+ miles in. Today calls for 4 and then a rest day. Weight has been stable and I’ve definitely been increasing my calories. The key to maintaining has to be the running.
