That sounds like a fantastic workout, tom. Doing those exercises with short rest is really tough. Great fat loss exercise!

The kettlebell swing and burpees combo is really tough. The only saving grace is that I’m getting enough rest (30 seconds on, 30 seconds off with a heart rate recovery between sets), that I’m not absolutely dying. And, it’s only three 6 minute sets. I can’t keep up that pace for a long workout…

I’m very content to do my strength workouts at home. I will say I like having access to the smith machine for inverted rows at the gym, and I can work on chin-ups and pullups there (no bar set up here). What I cannot figure out is why it feels like less effort using their machine for pallof press than using the Bodylastics for same when I’m supposedly using more resistance with the machine at the gym. Oh well. Serves to make me feel good about what I do here. :)

I find that Pallof Press and those sorts of static core exercises are just as good with bands as with the cable machines.

I use very little weight for Palloff Press. That is a surprisingly hard exercise…

94 degrees - oh wow! I would be melting… Warm and humid here today. As I decided to go for a run, it started to rain. No, it started to dump water from the sky a la Niagara falls. Treadmill day!

It is so weird not having a lab. Our old dog didnt notice rain unless it was sideways & it’s August!
I was out with our new pup & we were about 4 house away from home when the rain increased. I dropped the leash & told him to go home & he just * tore* down the sidewalk & up the steps waiting patiently for me to open the door.
Our lab would have been at the park, a few blocks away if I dropped the leash.
;)

Just off the scale down another 5lbs. That makes it down 17 in the month of August with several bad days. I am very happy with the results so far. The bad days could have really set me back as they have it the past.

This group really helped me get back on track. Thank you.

Amesie, yes, I use the RunKeeper app on my phone - I also have some music (just a short playlist) on my phone so you can set the app to play the music when you start it. I personally like having everything on the phone and having it with me when I run.

Here is the website for RunKeeper - they have recently joined up with myfitnesspal and now you can sync what you eat with your exercise:

Looks like you might be able to use the program without an app (online) - I just haven’t used it that way.

Yay tom1944!

Last night I was exercising and thought I’d do something I haven’t done in a long time–the “bear walk” across the floor. Well, this morning my right hip is sore in the same way it was a few weeks ago causing me to stop running and rest it. :(

Maybe I’ll do some other stretches and not do the bear walk anymore!

And an unrelated question: And what sort of supermosquito can bite me on the hand while I’m outside for 2 minutes sweeping off the deck? I understand the ones I get when I’m standing still and watering things.

Edit: I think my main problem is my mind doesn’t understand my body is getting older. “Right! Let’s do the bear walk! That was fun in high school.” :D

1 hr pilates, ran a 12 minute mile and was hardly winded. Clearly stronger, and back on the wagon after a hellacious 2 weeks at work!

Kudos Tom, nice work! I’d go out and find you a light up accessory but I’m at the hairdressers on the iPad and the outcome might be disastrous
somebody go get that man something that lights up :)

PS mommusic, one of MY mosquito-zombies may have escaped and flown all the way to your house. Sorry, but i won’t agree to making my pastures less inhospitable, I’m afraid
so be warned the zombie-skeeters are on the loose.

Good job PG!!! Keep it up - you can do it! When’s the first 5k you signed up for??

Ha - it’s Sept 8! I’m woefully unprepared but hoping that adrenaline will keep me going! Luckily these are all fun runs!

Your adrenaline would keep a pack of people going!!! You’ll do fine - just try and enjoy it a little in the process!

Tom- that’s a huge loss! Congratulations! Pizzagirl- you are definitely stronger!

We had almost a record high low this morning- 75 degrees. (Record is 76 for this date). It was awful. 4.2 miles. Dreading the 16 my daughter has planned for us tomorrow. We will carry water and go out 5/back 5 (get cold drinks) and then out 3/back 3 in the other direction. Tough course with the first 10 the worst of it.

I’m thinking dealing with the supermosquito bite would probably be easier than 16 miles.

tom1944:

Fantastic! 5 pound parties are the greatest thing since sliced bread. Oh, wait… they are better than sliced bread! Makes you want to set sail for the next one…

mommusic:

I had to look up bear walks. I wonder if you are a little bit flexion-bending intolerant in the lower back? That one looks like it could easily aggravate a disk. Hip pain wouldn’t be a surprise. That’s what I was worried about with my hip last week.

I have been watching what I eat and taking walks for one week now.

Thank you for the welcome and advice.

One pound down, discouraged but determined. If it is this slow, I will be 52 pounds lighter this time next year. I would love to be 52 pounds lighter. So need to stick to it and just do it.

Good to see you check in and hear you’ve been keeping at it, Eddie.

interesteddad–this pain is in the front of my hip, right where it bends when you sit down. I plan to do all sorts of stretches & hip-strengthening exercises…everything but the bear walk!

And actually the pain went away as the day went on. I’m probably ok if I behave myself.
