Yay for the run, abasket! :)

Did some swimming yesterday (next to last day at the pool, after all!) and a walk in a park that had a carillon. A concert was going on, and afterwards they invited people up for a tour. Quite a few steps up to the top! :)

And to report on my pull-up progress, as of today I can do one going up and down smoothly, and keeping my legs straight! woot! Working the core muscles helps the pull-up, I realize.

Pizzagirl–I can’t do somersaults in the water anymore. I used to, but now I have inner ear problems or something. When I go upside down, I get all dizzy and feel like I’m severely rotating when I’m not. Ugh.

Mission accomplished. I felt like lying in a bathtub of ice, but 7.5 miles in the books. Didn’t set any speed records, but I did it. I’ll be lying in front of the a/c vent for the rest of the day if anyone needs me.

Sounds like lots of good workouts here this weekend. Keep on keepin’ on!

Overzealous SLDLs with dbs for me yesterday, lol.

Should have just written single leg deadlift as I’m now seeing SLDL used to mean more than one exercise and frequently not the one I meant (too late to edit original post).

sabaray- Congrats on the run. Glad you got it done.

10K done! I was filled with dread. Ate horribly yesterday, slept poorly and it was hot, humid and awful this morning. I considered bagging it, but daughter had entered, too. I gutted it out, won the age group and daughter beat me by over 2 1/2 minutes and was thrilled with her time considering the weather, course and our 16 mile run on Saturday. I ran really evenly and got a $50 Fleet Feet gift card along with my trophy! I’ll take that!

We wore our matching Lulu plaid skirts. I wore Brooks Pure Flow 3s (wear test prototypes) and she wore Pure Flow 2s. I was soaked at the end.

Thanks for spelling out those initials - I was stumped!!!

Sabaray, you have full permission to plop in front of the AC for the afternoon - such progress you have made!!

MOWC, after All those miles, how do you spend the rest of your day? Do you have a decent recovery???

Congrats, MOWC! I love the mother/daughter running stories. Your success is a huge motivator for me. It gives me something to aspire to, that’s for sure. And I’m aspiring to a rest day tomorrow!

Thanks! I was 1/12 in the age group. So far, they have my time wrong and it doesn’t reflect my chip time. That made me barely win. I have more cushion with the real time. I think they will fix it. They know about it. At least it was a decent sized age group and not one of the deals where I was the only one! I am tired and do need some rest.

Good workout today. My standard at PF. Sure fire hangover cure too

Deborah:

I think the “official” name is a Straight Leg Single Leg Deadlift, although that is a bit of misnomer since the leg isn’t completely straight. It should be called a Slightly Bent Leg Single Led Deadlift.

In any case. SLDL seems to be the generally accepted abbreviation. It’s also the move most golfers use to get their ball out of the cup. :)

Do you ever listen to Wharfrat during your workouts? I love getting a long Dead jam on my iPod shuffle, especially when I hiking…

Don’t have wharfrat on my iPod but I do have a lot of Dead. I tend to lean toward Phish jams for my cardio.

I’m weird when it comes to workout music. I have all the slow Jerry Garcia songs. I’m probably the only person in the world with Bird Song on my workout iPod… I do have a lot of Phil Lesh and Friends live stuff on my iPod, including some terrific shows with Trey Anastasio. That was an truly incredible band during the time Joan Osborne was touring as their lead vocalist with Anastasio and Larry Campbell on guitar.

Lately, I’ve been trying to catch up on a big backlog of podcasts.

Congrats, MOfWC! That is simply amazing - to beat the crowd of 11 runners after a brutal 16 miler! Those plaid skirts are soooo cute. :)

sabaray, well done! You did not let your tired body to overcome your mind.

abasket, you are a true runner! Congrats on the PR. I am confident that the adrenalin of a big race will propel you even faster.

Speaking of geezer fitness…Diana Nyad has successfully swum from Cuba to Florida without a shark cage. On her fifth attempt. That’s…a 110 mile swim! And she’s 64 years old!

Actually I have read that this is supposed to be good for muscle recovery, or something like that.

And congrats on getting the run done!

sabaray, I was following her progress this morning, and I am extremely happy for her!

I think it’s absolutely incredible. I cannot imagine that swim. The distance, the difficult current, sharks and jellyfish…wow.

Thanks all, for the running encouragement. I hate not to finish something I’ve started. Tomorrow will be a rest day and then Wednesday I’ll start back with the plan. Assuming I haven’t frozen into a block of ice. :)

I saw that about her swim and was thinking , “wait - isn’t she a bit older?” What a remarkable feat!

My mom is 80 today. She still works part time at her local YMCA and swims and walks EVERYDAY. Swims once a day, walks twice a day. I can only hope to have that lifestyle when (not if!) I reach 80!!

Congrats, abasket!!
