NJ- I once ran a 10k where someone next to me sounded like he was having an asthma attack. No matter how much I tried I could not get away from him. I was thinking the entire time that some guy is dying and I can not run faster than him.

Done - no PR, but I am happy to say I ran the entire way - not a single step walked. And there were hills (or at least what felt like hills) which I wasn’t used to as I run on a treadmill. So, feeling good. I have 3 more planned this fall, two in Chicago and one in South Bend. I am very picky about playlists and my playlist kept me motivated.

Congrats, PG!! Way to go!! PR??? What PR??

Great job.

Whoopie! Party for Pizzagirl!! Great to hear! I was thinking of you this morning. I have a friend who lives in the Chicago suburbs and she was doing a Half today downtown Chi-town.

The fact that you ran it all is icing on the cake (so to speak). - hope you feel accomplished getting the first one out of the way and k owing what to expect. Did you get a bib number? If so, start your collection( I put mine on the refrigerator with a magnetic clip) to help keep you motivated and for bragging rights.:).

Agree that a good playlist makes all the difference. Making a new playlist is on my list to do today.

Congrats again!!

Thanks, abasket! This is actually my fourth 5K - but the first three were Color Runs, which is a whole different atmosphere (and for me, being able to “make it to the yellow” or “make it to the pink” was motivating). This one was through my synagogue - they called it the High Holiday Hustle and they started it with a ram’s horn / shofar instead of a gun, which was pretty amusing!

I think my official time was 39:30, which is a 12-something mile, but I’m ok with that, esp as I hadn’t run in about a week, and I had cut back on the running to focus on strength, pilates and hot yoga. It’s not that I have a goal to be fast necessarily, it’s just that it’s my ego wanting me to post a better time, kwim?

One thing that did happen was that as you reached the mile mark, they called out your split. Is that common? I shook my head no and said I didn’t want to hear mine. I don’t know about other people, but I am best off not having that knowledge in the middle of a run. It just makes me go into my head and start calculating how long everything is taking me, and I am better off sticking to the moment and just enjoying myself. Do other runners do the same? What are your experiences? Or does knowing where you are at motivate you?

Congrats to all the runners who competed this weekend. PG, I am sure you will see some improvement in your time the more running you do.

Today called for an eight mile run which I am happy to report I completed and actually feel pretty good. I am looking forward to some fall weather and cooler temps to run in.

I have not experienced the splits time calling- or I ignored it. :). I do usually still run RunKeeper when I am doing a race along with my music because it gives me feedback I am used to - it may not be 100% accurate but in the ballpark . But all that is personal preference.

Yay, PG!

Well, you clobbered my PR! If I recall, my one and only 5K was 43:13. I can’t match that on my neighborhood 5K loop, mostly because it it has long steep hills.

40 minutes on the treadmill.

Yesterday… .did 3.25 at 9:11 avg. Best mile was 8:39. Followed with push-ups, planks and a 5 mile walk with DH. Walked another 5.5 miles w/ him today. Funny, he’s not one bit interested in running any distance w/ me but when we walk, he’ll run up the hills. Go figure. I’ll take what I can get!

My runner friend at work is trying to talk me into a local 5K in a couple of weeks.
I checked last years race results online. The tops three on my age group were at least four minutes faster than my best time

Good job PG!

Three mile walk this morning, a little poolside lounging this afternoon. It’s 90 degrees out, but H is cooking turkey chili and we’re parked in front of the Packer game. I like fall.

Go Pack! (The team and PackMom!!). Big Packer family here!

PackMom you may run a faster pace in a race than on your own - although that’s an amazing pace IMO!

I love fall! It was perfect for my run today - 73 degrees but a bit overcast.

I think getting speedier requires more dedication than I have to offer, so maybe I’ll just hang around and set my goal for the remaining 5ks to finish without walking and have fun. Though I did peek at the 5k to 10k app … (Same company as the Couch to 5k …)

I did the 5 to 10k program, PG. I like having a defined program for running and I found it helpful.

How “good” were you at 5k before you did so, sabaray?

Good job, Pizzagirl! Yes, most runners want their splits. That’s why we run with Garmins. I also never race with music. I like to be connected to the race and be aware of the runners around me so I don’t interfere.

Very long and successful day at Ironman 70.3 World Championships. Both kids did well. It was pouring rain all night and for the start. 70 degrees. Yep- in VEGAS! Eventually stopped and was hot and muggy by the run. Girlfriend won her age group and is the World Champion. WildChild put down a sub 1:28 half marathon at the end, including some walking afte 11 miles where he died. He was 13th out of 145 or so in a very stacked age group. His coach was very happy. He got into 9th place at one point. Wound up in the medical tent and got IV fluids afterwards. He’s fine now. Also tore up his feet badly going without socks in his Hokas. He hadn’t tried that before. You learn. The finisher medals are as big as pie plates. They now will go to the awards banquet for her podium award. H and I will pass ($30 each for bad food) and will pack up the bikes. The whole thing was overwhelming. Logistical nightmare. WildChild was pretty upset that drafting rules weren’t enforced. Should have been lots of DQs. Anyway- very proud of both of them. Lots of good pictures.

PG- Nothing spectacular. 10 minute miles at the 5k distance. Now I range from 8:45 to 9 minutes for a mile. I’m a slow starter which is why I was interested in longer distances. I knew I’d quit running if I didn’t have a new challenge. Today’s run was 8 miles in 1:19:33.

Cross post with MOWC: wow! For both of them!

Congrats WildChild and WildChildGF!

What is a DQ?

Wow, congratulations to your son and his GF, 'MOWC!

Nice pace and distance, Saba. You too, Packmom.

The Packers today, oh darn. :(
