MOWC, doing that stuff is incomprehensible to me! Congrats to your S and his GF

Saba, I’m a slow starter too. First mile always the slowest. Same thing when DH and I walk. On our walk today we dropped a minute off every mile we walked.

DQ is disqualified. There are strict rules against drafting on the bike.

I got 4.6 miles in in the rain this morning before we headed to the race. Coach and kids left at 4:45am. First rainy run in Nevada!

Wow, congrats to all finishers! Special kudos to WC for running an impressive half without socks!

Speaking of Hokas - I like their seamless uppers, but I would not try my luck running in them without socks. :)

Nike also came out with a shoe that also has a seamless design:

[Nike Store. Nike Flyknit Lunar1 Women’s Running Shoe](http://m.nike.com/us/en_us/pd/flyknit-lunar1-running-shoe/pid-724479/pgid-656189)

In the last Nordie’s catalog they looked like regular Lunar shoes with knit uppers.

I watched the Ironman in Hawaii on tv, and if they got caught drafting they weren’t disqualified, they served a 4 minute penalty in the penalty tent.

How do they check for it when there are 60 miles of riding? I couldn’t tell on the Ironman how they determined if someone was drafting or not.

Mom brag on my own. D sent a picture of her with a bright shiny thing :). Did her first half marathon. Much slower than WC 2:23 but respectable. I am very proud since she struggled with a hip injury but didn’t give up.

Me I played 9 holes of golf, walked and made 2 long puts. Win, win :)

Congrats to your D Deb922! While I am impressed by many people’s times , I am more impressed by people’s dedication - time is secondary.

2.5 comfortable miles tonight running tonight.

Congrats to deb922-daughter!

A “non-scale victory” - am in NYC right now for business, had a healthy dinner and then after walking around for a while, decided that I really wanted a NY street-vendor pretzel. You don’t get those things in Chicago! And I grew up in Philly, which is soft-pretzel central! So I bought one, ate maybe 2 - 3 inches worth of it - and that was enough. I threw the rest away and was satisfied. That to me was a non-scale victory because I could recognize I really wanted something, it was “special” (in context) but I didn’t really need to mindlessly eat the whole thing.

^It’s really great when you can do that.

Deb922- congrats to your daughter! Half marathon is never easy.

Am doing two 5Ks in early November. Will mostly walk, but we’ll see how I’m doing. Have joined a group that is training and is split into runners/walkers. Have been doing intervals of running/walking and doing OK. Not going to win any medals, but would like to increase the run/walk ratio.

Am doing 20 minutes on the treadmill w/incline and 35 minutes on the elliptical with hills, so I hope that helps. DH and I are heading to Scotland and Ireland soon and expect to do lots of hiking then.

Gained eight AFTER S1’s wedding and am now trying to drop them. Am about halfway there. The less I have to schlep on the trails, the better!

Nice to hear from you, CD!
Kudos to all the “victors” this weekend.
I failed in my kayak quest due to some unscheduled renovation shopping and other shenanigans that cropped up. So much for being unstoppable in my quest for activity  Solo workouts early am seem to be the only “insurance” that I will put enough in each day it seems!

CD, that is good training for your 5K’s - I bet you will surprise yourself. How nice that you have a mixed group to train with!

Bunsenburner–love the look of the “sock upper” running shoe. Esp. like the low-profile tongue. Never understood why some shoes had an enormous fluffy tongue.

Today’s workout was cutting the grass in the back yard, after I looked out and realized I should have had S do it when he was home this weekend (DH is out of town, of course!)

So now I’m relaxing with a banana-whey powder-yogurt-espresso smoothie of my own invention. :)

Deb922, congrats to your daughter on doing the half! IMO, half is one of the toughest races out there - it is a really long, long, long sprint.

Lifting day today. Warm-up, core, stretching/flexibility followed by explosive push ups, 10 sets of push exercises, 6 sets split leg squats (3 sets each side) 10 sets of pull exercises, 3 sets of deadlifts, 2 sets of combo- squat, curl, press, 2 sets of farmer walk with 25 and 35 lb plates. Ended with 3 rotations of kettle bell swings.

Felt good

Dinner 6oz pork tenderloin chops coated with paprika, 2 roasted beets and sauerkraut.

Same for me, Tom. I checked and I think this is Week 6 alternating between two workouts. Today was:

*Warmup

TRX plank/sideplank
Stability ball dead bug
Stability ball toe touches

Med ball slams
Box jumps

DB front squats
3 pt rows

Single leg deadlift
TRX push up (with hold at bottom)*

Stuck with the heavier weights for the last two sets of the squats and rows, which was challenging, but good. This is a pretty enjoyable workout, probably a little easier than the second one I’ve been doing.

Well…I broke my little toe on Friday. :frowning: My whole foot is black and blue and I can’t get a shoe on. Leaving on Saturday for some hiking and winery visits in California. Darn!

Oh no!!!

Can you wear a sandal or anything?? Maybe a pair of Keens that are more wide-footed??

Hurt baby toes hurt like the dickens!!!

I have been wearing flip flops but they aren’t very supportive. I will wear an orthopedic boot if I have to. I am so looking forward to hiking the coastal trails!
