Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

3.65 miles in just under an hour. Limped about the last half-mile home as my patella started popping. It’s done it before, but tonight was bad!

Ouch, NMinn and hops! I hope your troubles will be as short lived as they can be.

Hops, I know that you work in the PT field and can tell what is good and what is not so better than anyone else, but here is my opinion of a patient. When I wrecked my knee eons ago, I discovered a knee brace that worked for me better than any other bracing product:

[RxOrtho Knee Brace](http://www.cepcompression.com/1936-RxOrtho-Knee-Brace.aspx)

It has a gel-filled “donut” that goes around the knee and is not very restrictive. I was amazed that I could run with this knee sleeve for miles, and it can be worn under wider leg pants or over tights.

I tried a new way of doing push-ups today: with my feet on the kitchen counter. Not the easiest way of doing this type of exercise!! :)

2.0 miles today on the treadmill w/ 5% incline, 35:45. I am faster outside on a track.
Also did weights and 1.5 miles on the recumbent stepper.

Will be doing 5ks the next two weeks on vacation!

NMINN:

Ouch. Broken toe is no fun. I came “this close” to breaking a toe on a rock hiking before I switched to hiking boots. Hopefully, it will improve quickly and you’ll be able to enjoy your vacation…

HOPS:

Knee pain would be an immediate “no go” condition on running, for me. Those knees have to last you a long time…

BB:

Wow. Just getting into pushup position with feet on the counter would be a full workout! Those would also be really hard pushups due to the angle of the weight.

^i am trying to picture this move and can’t quite fathom it. BB, have you been bitten by a lab spider again? And here I thought my diving board pull-ups were inventive!

Wow! You all are sure an active bunch. I have just been walking - almost every day. Lost 4.2 lbs in 2 weeks so far. Slowly but surely.

Eddie - we help each other be active - at least that’s my opinion!!! :)

Clearly your walking (and eating) must be doing something - 4 lbs in 2 weeks - almost a 5 pound party!!! (that’s something we celebrate here!)

North, when I injured a baby toe (don’t know if it was broke) these were a shoe I could wear - and they actually are decent for hiking (??)
Thanks abasket!

Hi eddieo!!! Great job on the walking! :)

Oh no, NMinn. Hopefully, it will settle down and let you get in a good shoe for your trip. Lots of ice…

BB- don’t put your feet in the casserole or anything! That sounds impossible to me!

I am exhausted from the trip and lack of sleep. This triathlon stuff is TOUGH on the support crew! I only ran 1.5 this morning. Just need to recover a little.

Suppose to be a run day - currently heading towards 95, with humidity and a little breeze. Not gonna complain cause I know what will be outside the window in a few months, but man it’s HOT outside!!!

eddieodessa:

My first fitness goal when I started losing weight and exercising was “Walk 1 mile without getting winded”.

Walking has been a steady mainstay of my exercise ever since that first week (when I started with 1/4 mile the first time out). It’s fantastic exercise and easy to crank it up as you get more fit, especially by adding hills to your route (or by walking on snow shoes in the winter!)

BB:

OK, had to try the kitchen counter pushups. Actually, I did them with my feet up on my desk which is about six inches lower than a kitchen counter (but had the advantage of carpeting for my hands).

I was surprised. Wasn’t too tough to get into position… although I did stub my toe on the edge of the desk and thought for minute I’d be joining NMINN. Pushups were definitely harder. I cranked out ten and will definitely file that away as a good progression. I’'ll have to look around the basement gym. I have a couple of bookcases that may be a good height. Or, an Airex pad on top of one of the DB racks may work. Or, maybe I’ll put stability ball pushups in the workout.

Some people eat lobster, others are lobster. More to come soon.

Sorry to hear about your toe–NM. It’s so annoying to get an injury like that. Congrats to WC, girlfriend and support team.

Did a short walk today (trail around a cranberry bog–2 miles). Also did 15 minutes of weights (upper body). My ankle feels better but it’s still red–finished meds and have doctor appt. on Thursday. Really hoping I can go back to regular fitness activities. Good news – haven’t gained weight despite not being careful with carb intake (which is important for me).

iDad and BB- This is useless without pictures! :)

Eddieodessa, you’re almost there for the 5 pound party! Yea! I can only imagine what kmcmom is going to find to celebrate!

Ran 3 miles, hot and humid but since it’s going to be in the high 50’s this weekend, I’m not complaining. Rained yesterday so I ran on the treadmill.

Eddie, that’s great! Terrific progress.

NM, I am very jealous of your trip but not your broken toe. I hope you’re able to walk pain free soon.

4 mile run. It’s hot here too, abasket, so I wimped out and used the treadmill.

BB and iDad, I’ll get back to you on those pushups. Wow.

And I joined you Sabaray, just got back from 35 mins on the treadmill at 5.5 - lukewarm shower, here I come!!!

I will miss splashing in the surf with sea turtles. That’s not usually part of my exercise routine here. ;)

And yes, I did run while I was there, along the path by the water and on the hotel treadmill. A few sprints in the sand. I couldn’t figure out how to adjust the settings on the hotel treadmill initially so I used a preset button which had me running at a good clip from the get-go. Eventually I saw which arrow keys to use (oh, those ones) and did my bump up. Made use of their weights, bench, and smith bar, too. I was waking up nice and early so I did get in an early morning outdoor run before it got hot. Humid there so exercise involved glistening and more glistening.

Plenty of playing in the water, trotting around town, and food to be had. Did we partake? You bet! We had a great time!

So your lobster was in the form of a sun burn? Ouch. Glad you had a good time . IMO, that’s a perfect vacation, playtime, rest time, exercise time and indulging time!

Welcome back. :)

Lol, if I survive this vacation, I’ll film a video of my upside down kitchen pushups to share with you via YouTube. :)

Tested out the fitness center at the hotel. What a huge disappointment! Two measly treadmills, a couple of bikes, and an elliptical. This would have been OK for a Holiday Inn kind of place, but this is a huge resort! Running outside is not a good idea: upper 80s, humidity and mosquitoes. I miss Ko Olina!!!
