Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I love injinjis for my feet, so no other sock is going to work for my runs. Never tried compression sleeves, although many runners swear by them. I did buy a pair of CEP compression socks that I really like and wear on airplanes, and I think they help to keep my feet from swelling.

Hops, I do think kinesio tape works for me - even if this is a placebo effect. I only used it on my knees. Not the body part I would flaunt. :)

Oh trust me, I believe it works too! And so do several of my athletes. I probably use it 2-3 times a week with kids. But some of what you see is just a little too bizarre for me! I have one girl who I think is somewhat addicted to it; seems every injury needs it ;)

“Greetings from the South Pacific, and belated birthday wishes to the birthday people. Back on the boat, hoping to maintain with Trx, bw exercises and some work with bands. Food and alcohol super expensive, so hopefully not too much of a lure. Carry on with all the good work, looking forward to catching up upon my return in a few weeks.”

Ahhhh!!! So jealous!!

BTW Packmom - isn’t that cool to log up those miles and see the big number?! And you were even “out” for part of the year unable to log miles!

CJaneRead–enjoy the South Pacific!

Had a nice walk with 2 other moms this morning. It’s fun chatting & walking…even stopped for coffee at the local community college which just upgraded its cafe. :)

Home workout and ~ 1 2/3 mi park run.

Sprinkling, light wind, 64 degrees. Comfortable running in shorts and the tech tee from my last race. It wasn’t especially cool out, but people are starting to bundle up more, strolling in pants and light jackets.

I have noticed that - people running all layered up - it’s still in the 60s people!!! I for,one hope to keep my shorts on for a bit - feels so much lighter! Getting ready to head out in a minute - 64 to 66 out there , I’m wearing LLBean sports shorts and a favorite college tshirt - touch

Well, my carbs caught up with me on the scale but I’m going to say it was worth it. We headed to DC yesterday to have dinner with D - ate at a French bistro we’d all been anxious to try. They are highly regarded for their bread (among other things of course). So, between the bread basket and the birthday cinnamon rolls the scale is up a bit. I’m back to tracking and cutting out the carbs. I’m going to say it was worth it though.

And I’m really happy that I got in a 9.34 mile run. Cool weather here with hit or miss rain/drizzle/droplets.

And before I forget, CJane, if you ever need some extra hands on board, let me know! H and I both know how to sail and we are excellent crew members! :D

Me too. Now that I’ve gotten used to wearing them I’m thoroughly attached.

Sabaray, whoa! 9.34 mi – impressive!

I was surprised at how bundled up some people were up here in PA on the 60s days!
Nice 9+ mile run, sabaray!

Heading back to TN after disgusting eating since Thursday. In the airport security line from hell due to high security alert.

I still believe and support the +20 degree mentality when dressing for running or even a fast pace walk - dress for the current temp +20 degrees for how you’ll feel when you get heated up!

Sabaray, because you know the drill, you’ll get right back even with the scale. Heck, my love for eating is part of what keeps me exercising - I’m sure your bread and cinnamon rolls were worth the slight back step- just like the new recipe I baked yesterday morning for brunch - brown butter baked donuts!! I fully support the occasional roll off the wagon!

I had some minor surgery today and am not allowed to exercise my upper body for two weeks! I think I’m going to have to go do all the leg machines at the gym! Any thoughts for good things to do at home? Split squats, squats and stairs seem obvious, and of course I can walk or run.

I take this multi:

[Advanced Orthomolecular Research AOR, Ortho?Core, Advanced Multivitamin/Mineral Formula, 180 Capsules - iHerb.com](http://www.iherb.com/Advanced-Orthomolecular-Research-AOR-Ortho-Core-Advanced-Multivitamin-Mineral-Formula-180-Capsules/33670)

It’s expensive, but I only take 1/3 dose (2 capsules) so one bottle lasts me three months. There is a lot of science behind the forms of each ingredient, the amounts, the ratios between ingredients, what is in it (all eight forms of vitamin E for example), etc.

[Ortho?Core - AOR](http://www.aor.ca/products-page/advanced/ortho-core/#research_tab)

I also take:

Fish oil - 4 high-concentration caps/day (2.4 gms omega3 total)
Vitamin D - 5000 iu
Mg - 400 mg of a very absorbable form
Vitamin K2 - I forget the amount

These are the most important, I take some other stuff too.

Fish oil and greatly reducing gluten have done great things for my joints.

I believe having my vitamin D levels up has greatly reduced the number of times I get sick every year, based on before/after I started supplementing. My doctor was way ahead of the curve on this, and it has really helped me.

D/Ca/Mg/K2 have an interesting synergy as far as bone health goes. From what I have read, Ca may be the least important of the 4, but that’s where the buzz is.

Mathmom, I hope you’re feeling all right and resting and recuperating.

Do you think you’ll be able to do any of the exercises where you’re lying on your back or side? Single leg circles, leg adduction, side lying clam, side lying leg lift?

Also, stationary bike at the gym.

Hoping you recover well Mathmom - when someone puts a limit on your mobility, it’s like a personal prison when you are used to being active!!

2.75 mile run with a little hopping and skipping over the acorns, crab apples and black walnuts on the sidewalks. That’s something annoying when I run right in the neighborhood this time of year.

Oh yeah, leg circles and stuff like that should be fine. And I never do them! I don’t usually do bikes at the gym, but I think it’s that or the treadmill.

I’m not too worried about the recovery, feel good, just tired today.

We’re having a terrible year for acorns, and I think they are falling earlier than usual. The worst is the steets with sweet gums, those balls are a real menace!

Well, I’m breaking out the long pants tomorrow. Supposed to be a high of 60 in Lincoln, which would be OK for hiking in shorts. But, then, I’ve got to pitch the tent and get a campsite organized with late afternoon temps in the 50s falling to a low of 35 over night. So at least the first day of hiking will be long pants. Haven’t figured out the second day. Probably long pants again as I’ll be climbing back up above treeline in the Presidentials, I think.

I am envious of all this fall weather. It was over 90 today, again, and humid as usual. I did get a big box of crunchy, sweet apples in the mail, kinda like fall. Today I got to the gym, finally. I took it easy with a 20 minute jog on the treadmill and a pass thought the weight circuit. Felt great! Tonight H and I got a quick mile walk in when it was raining.

MoWC, I’m thinking about you and your mom.

And speedy recovery, Mathmom.

Mathmom–hope the two weeks goes by quickly for you. Good luck.
