Hope you get some awesome hiking in, idad. Get it while you can!

Sabaray, that is quite a run! Great job.

Mathmom, please take it easy for the next couple of days. Speedy healing to you!

My long pants might see the light of day in a month or so. It is getting rainier and cooler, but it is still going to be shorts weather in my books for a few weeks.

I was actually supposed to run yesterday but time didn’t allow for it, so I worked a short day today (my job is only part-time) and ran instead. We have a nice park that has a figure 8 loop of 1.47 miles, so I can usually work out my planned run pretty well. I have to say I am tired tonight. I am doing this half training plan (note I didn’t say I was running a half) and abasket motivated me to set goals on Runkeeper so for September, my goal is to do a 10 mile run and that should happen next weekend. If I don’t have a plan I’m afraid I’ll quit.

Mathmom, hope your recovery is uneventful and you’re back to your usual self soon.

I should probably buy some pants for running. I don’t like to get too warm when running but I don’t think I’ll be able to wear shorts forever, sadly.

Thanks, PlantMom. I’m back home. Probably won’t see her again- not sure of the timing but we are clearly near the end. We are happy with the hospice folks that are coming in and with our private caregivers who take excellent care of our mother. You just have to carry on!

Sabaray- there are a lot of light weight running pants and tights that are really comfortable and never feel hot.

Oh, I’m sure there are - I have a very low tolerance for shopping and a limited budget so am really looking for something with a lot of versatility. I just never know quite what to buy. I find myself confused by the various weights and fibers - my usual practice is to go to Target or TJ Maxx and grab whatever fits and doesn’t itch! Recommendations are welcome.

MOfWC, big hugs to you.

I’m with you. I like my Nike filament capris but even more my Nike filament tights. The capris are about an inch or two shorter than I’d prefer – the tights are the perfect length for me. They feel good when it’s cold, but I’m not living where there’s super cold weather. If I were I might shop for something thicker or more fleecy come winter. I also like that they stay up and hold their shape well.

I’m curious how anyone here who has used running pants for running (as opposed to, say, running errands) likes them compared to tights.

MOWC, more hugs.

Hm, I wonder if they’ll have Nike filament crops this year… If they did, those might be a nice length…

I got a good deal on the tights at Nordstrom Rack last year, btw.

I dislike shopping online less than shopping in real stores, and I sometimes find eBay kind of fun, so I have bought some LLBean fleece pieces online and then, once I know I like the fit and fabric, I have bought additional pieces of the same style on eBay for about 25 percent of the price LLBean charges.

I’m busy uploading GPS tracks from the AMC White Mountain Guide Online to my Garmin GPS map. Very cool website. It will build any custom route hike in the White Mountains by entering trailheads, trail junctions, waterfalls, peaks, etc. You can print a PDF with directions to each marker and a large 8 x 11 topo map of the hike. And, you can export the track to Google Earth or GPS.

I’m doing two days of fairly easy waterfall hikes. And, on Wednesday, I’ll bag another of the 4000 footers along ridge south of Mt. Washington. This one, Mt. Jackson, is shorter and easier tha the two I’ve already done (Pierce and Eisenhower).

That sounds like an awesome site. I wonder if they have the same thing for us out here in the PNW. My husband loves his GPS, but it’s kind of old.

Sounds like you will have a great trip! So good to get it in before the crappy weather sets in.

Sending hugs to MomWC.

Idad, have a great hike. I got the 37 degrees this morning, which is ridiculous pool wise
Its supposed to warm up tomorrow though, and mcson is coming home to help me finish clearing the garage for construction, so I feel I should leave it warmed up just a little bit longer…

My wee plank routine (plank, side planks and bird dog) that I’ve added in the am is going ok, but my balance isn’t quite good enough to add the “stir-the-pot” routine yet. I think I’ll give it a week. I think its almost time to start the hill again, since the window of post-treadmill swims is definitely slamming shut :)

Thanks, Deborah, I will definitely check those out. Temps can vary widely in VA so I’m sure I’ll need some heavier ones too. I might ask D to keep an eye out for me since she lives in civilization.

KMC, you are a brave woman. That’s all I’m going to say. Brrr.

iDad, enjoy your hiking adventure!

iDad- looking forward to the report and the pictures!

My work week is insane this week (just what I need, right?). I woke up early this morning (still on Eastern time, I guess) and got out for 4 miles. I went outside with my headlamp, but decided I could get through the first 5 minutes or so that I would need it without it, so I did. It is really staying dark longer, though.

Sabaray, I’m not THAT brave…I did the hottub instead, then had a beautiful hike up the hill, followed by my micro-core routine and iDad’s abbreviated (by me, not him) kettlebell set he taught me :)

But tomorrow, when its supposed to at least e up to 50 in am, if i can see for the fog rising off the pool I plan to at least have a Bon voyage aquajogging session as it may be the last of the season at this rate ;)

Running tights vs Running pants - are the tights REALLY tight?

Sabaray, I rely on TJMaxx for much of my workout clothing. I need to watch my $$ spending and I like to have choices - so I want some variety! TJ can have some not worthwhile brands, but they can also have worthwhile stuff. I personally find the Avia brand to work well for me. I have a couple of the just past the knee length and then to the ankle length. Have worn and washed them lots of times and they still look great and have held their shape. I definitely heat up when I run even in the winter so I don’t want anything too heavy. Also don’t like anything too tight. Sometimes I will even buy up a size for comfort (as opposed to the REALLY tight fitting styles!).

I’ll admit as the weather gets cooler, depending on my evening activities, I come home and am perfectly happy and comfortable to pull these “pants” on for the evening - ahh!!!

Nordstrom Rack will have some better selection of name brands - often lots of Nike - so if there is one near, I’d check them as well.

I’m sure that there are some that are well worth paying the extra $$$ for - in terms of comfort, durability, etc. I’d be curious about finding some that are more cotton based for a little more warmth - even for winter walks where I don’t get quite as heated up.

Some of the tights are very tight but there are a lot with a more relaxed fit. The Title 9 and Athleta sites give you a good idea. There are also tights with attached skirts so you have some coverage.

Thanks for the thoughts and hugs. I appreciate the support.

abasket, Brooks and others make running pants that are slim cut but not as tight fitting as running tights (think skinny jeans vs jeggings :)). Like this one:

[Women’s cold-weather running pants: Brooks Vapor Dry 2 Pant](http://m.brooksrunning.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-BrooksRunning-Site/default/mProduct-Show?pid=220231001.020&start=9&cgid=womens-apparel-tights-pants)

And how cute are these (without being too showy - though I know some of you like being more showy!!!)

Also really like these!

(now abasket, GET BACK TO WORK!)

One nice thing about the Nuu-Muus is that they also provide coverage for those who don’t want the tights “look”. My winter tights are that fleecy stuff iDad and I like (he can describe it better). Mine are from REI but he and I got a different brand, too (which I am forgetting…). The tights are not skin tight and are REALLY warm, which I need in the winter here.
