Nothing says holiday cheer like a turquoise Lulu puffy! :)

Looks like if I want to suit up for the US women’s hockey team I have a ways to go on my goblet squats  And here I just graduated to the blue bell! Though in truth, I’d probably benefit from a gym in this case, where heavier weights are available because I could use more weight on the goblet squats but am unlikely to clean 50 or use same for an overhead press so haven’t parted with the cash to buy a kb that heavy.

I should probably get a headlamp for winter sweats. The girls all insist on my lugging around our gigantic flashlight for light when we finish and are trying to gather stuff up and get down the hill. I continue to try to tell them that its actually easier to see if we let our eyes adjust and avoid the contrast of a flashlight, but nobody believes me :)

Years ago, I helped chaperone mcson’s scout outing and developed a rep for walking around in the dark. I took a posse of 10-yr-old boys on a “night walk” using only the stars to navigate. They were freaked out (at first) but then quite elated and triumphant about it.

I have bad night vision too and would never try to run without A lamp (or run at all :)) but its the contrast that gets me, so I actually prefer letting my eyes adjust to using a flashlight after sweatlodge :)

On the minus side - haven’t gotten to work out. My hotel gym doesn’t offer much and I’m exhausted. And I can’t walk around the neighborhood - it’s not safe. (This is Sao Paulo.) On the plus side - ate really well (though did have a candy bar last night for energy - am only human) … Salad, chicken w veggies and a huge plate of fruit for dinner, eggs and yogurt this morning. I really feel like my “carb indulgence” over the weekend slowed me down, more than I thought, so really trying to keep up the protein here. It’s soooo hard to work out when traveling, though, esp in a cruddy hotel.

Ran 5 miles and worked out on Saturday. On the road traveling (5 hours in the car) back home on Sunday and other miscellaneous exercise roadblocks on Mon/Tues. I’m pledging to get back on the bandwagon today, I ate pretty well over the weekend but arrived home from my trip with an extra pound. Def. have to run today!

I bet that Lulu hoodie is gorgeous. I didn’t see that color in the store.

Good job everyone for exercising or eating “well” when you can. It’s December - extra pats on the back go a long way for motivation. :)

pizzagirl- I understand. When I did some international travel, there were places where I absolutely could not exercise. Even the hotel room was too small to even turn around in, basically! You’ll be home soon enough! Be safe.

OK, my lower back seems to have recovered from whatever ailed it, despite spending hours in a car over vacation. :)

So I’m back in the game. Walking was not a problem but I’m adding stretching and pushups, and back to trying the pullup/chinup. I feel like Sisyphus on that one!

Congrats to everyone for keeping on keeping on!

gym workout

some running
some intervals (9.0, 9.4, 9.5, 9.6, 9.8, 10.0 mph – 1/10 mi each)
a little more running
some stretching & strength training

The problem is that father time is pushing us into an unfavorable strength/weight ratio!

Glad to hear your back has come around. That can be so annoying.

No dizziness for me again this morning. I think I’m good to go. Thank goodness. I was having to grab stuff to keep from falling Monday morning.

Still eating well at least - eggs / yogurt for breakfast, salad and fruit for lunch, apple and espresso for snack, now going out to dinner. Even though the gym here has paint fumes and is unusable! Oh well, better at least keep one thing going well and accept that next week is another week.

Sweaty day. :)

First got in a very quick 2 mile walk with some extra mins I had before picking up D from high school. I was coming from work but had some shoes and a sweatshirt in the car so I threw them on (to cover up part of my work clothes). But its 55 humid degrees today and the sweatshirt was WAY too much! But no choice unless I really wanted to look foolish walking through the posh neighborhood in tennis and my work clothes!!

Then got home and laced up for a 2 mile run. Nice and balmy!!

Happy with a 4 mile exercise total. :)

Hi everyone. I really like keeping up with your activities.

I have lost 30 pounds now (since August). Gained 1 over the Thanksgiving break, but it’s off now. We started going to the gym about 2 weeks ago when it was too cold/windy to walk. I usually walk on the treadmill for 30-45 minutes (between 3.1 - 3.4 mph, average). Then do all of the weight machines. Light weights, 20 reps - on every machine there. Just enough to feel it the next day, but not injuring anything with just starting out. It’s so much fun. Hubby is going and daughter, too. Sometimes I go by myself during the day, instead. I was there at 7am on Thanksgiving morning! It’s a cheap gym and shows it, I like the YMCA much better, but we joined this for now. The YMCA costs probably twice as much per month. Anyway, we are having fun and spending time together.

Five weeks before Thanksgiving I challenged myself to lose 10 pounds - I almost made it - I lost 9. My girlfriend was doing it with me and she lost 3. It’s really not all that much fun having a challenge when the other person/people are really not that into it. Whatever…

Anywhooo, keep up the great work, everybody. Sometime I would like to discuss excess skin with losing alot of weight. I have 40 pounds to go and already am aware of it. I’d like to know if my body will adjust and the skin will shrink back down, so to speak. This skin is 51 years old. ;)

Eddie, that is awesome! Congratulations.

Eddie, you are so on the right track !! Good for you keeping with your goals even when your partner fizzled out. I have no doubt you will be dealing with loose skin because you WILL lose 40 more!!

eddie for the WIN!!!

70 degrees here, but the bottom is due to all out by Friday night. Ran 2 miles in shorts/short sleeves tonight after work.

101.6 and 27 days remaining to reach my goal of 2013 miles for this year. That’s 3.8 miles a day.

Ran 3.1 at 8:52 this afternoon on a local greenway. Followed up with push-ups, planks, etc.
It was so warm that I ran in short sleeves and capris. When I got in my car to go home, all the windows fogged up because I was sooo hot…is it really December? Not that I’m complaining!

Five pound party x 6 for Eddie. Fantastic!

Back to the basement for me after a vertigo induced layoff. No problem. Got thru the whole workout including laying back on the bench staring at the ceiling for DB bench press. That’s a move that would trigger the dizziness, so I was happy.

These new workouts are getting a little easier. Well, not so much easier, but they aren’t sending my heart rate through the roof.

Core:
Valslide painful pushaways and tabata side planks/stability ball planks

Power:
Med ball slams and box jumps

Strength:
Goblet squats. 3 pt DB rows. DB box steps. DB bench press.

I did not try to match the women’s hockey standard of 100 lbs on the goblet squats. Stayed with my 50lb KB. But, I do go a little lower. My elbows touch my legs on every rep.

Thank you, everybody.

Congratulations eddieo!!! Woohoo! So very proud of you! I know how hard you have worked.
