Hah, ha, ha… the photos and trip reports from people hiking in the White Mountains are starting to trickle in. Glad I had the good sense to stay close to home and stick to flatland hiking…

This poor guy compounded his mistake by watching the sunset at the summit and then trying to negotiate this ice on the way down, after dark, with a head lamp.

I’m glad I’m an ol’ geezer with enough common sense/timidity to skip a weekend following a 48 hours of rain and a hard freeze…

Trainer day again. We are going to three times a week for awhile. We did some incredible stretches and I made my body do things it hasn’t done in years. Yay!

Had an early meeting at work so had to get out in the dark to run (headlamp). Dogs HATE the headlamp- it really scares them until they figure out there is a person attached to it! 3 miles done.

This is one of the US Women’s Hockey team members. I’m doing goblet squats with 50 lbs. I don’t think I can even pick up a 100 lb DB like that, but I’m motivated to try to crank it up a little bit.

Love the guy doing side plank in the background.

The new LEDs are a quantum leap beyond the old small LEDs. Much brigher, much more efficient, etc.

Beyond that, it’s a matter of what kind of battery is going to be the most convenient. I already have a bunch of NiMH batteries and a charger, so something ike the TIKKA PLUS that runs on three AAA batteries is ideal fo me. There are also headlamps now with rechargeable battery packs (for people who don’t already have batteries and chargers).

I have the Tikka Plus and have been very happy with it.

deb- that’s good advice from iDad (as usual). I forget the brand of mine- H sort of keeps me stocked. The one I use right now is rechargeable, which I like. I have bad night vision, so I like the brightest light I can have without wearing 5 pounds of weight on my head. I think there are a lot of good ones out there.

It was a 3.6 mi treadmill run for me today.

Abasket, I’ve been wanting to ask, how do you feel your November personal plank challenge went? Do you think you want to continue to incorporate them into workouts at all?

BB, now you know I’m going to have to try 9.5. Don’t think I’m going to be able to hit that 7.2 for miles on end real soon though, lol. I’m flattered when a speedy marathoner like you finds something in some way about a workout of mine useful!

I’ve been doing the planks on and off. I try to do a couple a night or add a Couple to the beginning or end of a stretch session. At one point I backed off a little cause my lower back seemed sore but I got past that. Nothing fancy, just the standard ones. :)

Back doing intervals again. 5 x 266 meters after a 30 minute elliptical /stretch/core/strength session. Looking to do 2-3 indoor meets this winter. Nothing here In ohio so I might go to boston to compete. Looks like they have meets in jan feb and the big Masters National meet in march.

Did a 3.3 mile walk today (on treadmill–was afraid of possible ice outside this morning, so I went to the gym in the afternoon) and 20 minutes of body weight exercises. Hot yoga tomorrow.

Hope you continued to feel better today, Idad.

Yay. Knock on wood, but no vertigo today. I took another day off from working out, but should be good to go tomorrow. I’ll have to see if lying back on the weight bench sets it off. If so, I’ll probably substitute pushups for the bench press.

I am Deborah’s twin today: 3.6 miles on my treadmill because I only had 30 minutes.

Headlamps come very handy for non-running activities such as putting Christmas lights up on the roof and checking crawl space for rats. Ours are… Black Diamond, too.

My Lulu hoodie arrived. Wooooow! It is so soft and cozy, and size 6 fits me perfectly. The runner kiddo will be getting one, too. I suspect that the non-runner kiddo will expropriate mine when she comes back to the US in August.

Has the new high output LED. Runs on three included AAA NiMH batteries with an integrated USB trickle charger. Can also run on alkaline batteries. Or NiMH that you charge in your own charger.

I have Black Diamond trekking poles. They have been fantastic. I’ve tried to break them. I really have… :)
