Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

I vote for an Amazon card! Believe me, there are folks with iPhones who have no use for an iTunes card - I do not have any music on my iPhone - I like to “reflect” when I exercise, and I do not go crazy about apps  and there are folks who do not like Starbucks. Unless, of course you know that the trainer likes to download music or is into coffee.

The Amazon gift card is a nice idea, especially if the trainer has a reading habit like mine :)

Idad, with that much snow, you could probably put on your snowshoes to run your errands :)

Yesterday was gorgeous here in the early am with sun and a giant blanket of fluffy snow but I had to forego the hill because I’d had a flat tire the night before which meant mch was chomping at the bit to get down to the studio with the air compressor so I could get to the tire place. So I’m in the “no twitch muscle” zone, I’m afraid.

It’s now warmed up so it will be a sludgier slog this morning. Hope we get a wee bit more sun before the next storm rolls in!

Yesterday, it was so warm here(NC) that I ran 3 miles around my neighborhood wearing only shorts and a t-shirt and was not cold at all!

^^^^Jealous. ;)

It is supposed to be in the 70’s here this weekend with some rain potential. Personally I’d like a little snow for Christmas! Just a little.

Sabaray, I’ll see if I can box some up for ya…

I’ve never been one to need a white Christmas or any day of the year! Wonder how I got stuck living in a wintry state!!!

Like Idad–my part of New England got lots of snow as well. Spent an hour this morning shoveling–we had 5 inches overnight on top of 8-9 inches that fell on Sunday. It was a wet and heavy snow and I missed yoga because shoveling took longer than I expected. (Of course, my H is traveling so I didn’t have any help). There’s an evening yoga class and I’ll sign up for it.

Thanks for the suggestions–I’m going to get an Amazon gift card for my trainer.

stretch/strength/core

Well, my day started at 8:15 helping my neighbor change her flat tire. She dug the car out of a snowbank the the tire was completely flat, down to the rim. My pump wouldn’t even make it budge. She was out there in 16 degree temps, with no gloves, wrestling with the jack, so I bundled up and helped.

It was so nice – 18 inches of fluffy white snow, deep blue sky, that just had to sneak out for a little snowshoeing along the lake at the Audubon Center. 3 miles out and back. Whew, it’s been a while. Gotta get my snowshoe legs back. There’s a pace and rythym to the things (slow), especially in deep snow. Fortunately, a few people had been out and broken trail on snow shoes and skis, but it was still slow going. Felt great to get out in the fresh air, though. It was right around 32 degrees and breezy. PowerStretch hoody was perfect.

Another stretch/strength/core and 6 miles on treadmill.

Another stretch/strength/core and 6 miles on treadmill.

Gym day for 3 miles on the treadmill, and some weights. Gym kid came home from college today and already asked to go work out tomorrow. He actually said we need to go six days a week for the month he’s home. How’s that for an instant fitness plan!

It’s beautiful here now, but I do envy that light snow iDad. Nice snowshoeing report!

Feeling really tired - had a holiday party late Tue night. Finally got out from under work and had 2 choices - hot yoga or go get nails done (they look atrocious!). I’m pleased to say I chose the yoga! And final savasana’d my way to dreamland.

Ok, what are our NY resolutions re health? I as usual will overthink mine.

Uh oh. I think maybe I should have done 2 miles instead of 3 miles for the first snow shoe outing of the year… I’m definitely verklempt… Stiff and creaky. Hip is sore. It’s all good… just different muscles than I’ve been using…

I averaged 1.5 mph over the gently rolling 3 miles. Pretty slow going, but it was a narrow track in pretty deep snow the whole way. I have found that slow and steady is the only way to deal with those conditions. Just a really pretty trail through the woods, wide enough for a two or three snow shoe and ski tracks side by side. The turnaound is a point sticking way out into the frozen lake – a spot that is gorgeous, but guaranteed to be windy.

Speaking of snow shoeing, I didn’t have time today, but I’ve got to check out Pawtuckaway State Park, which is less than 30 minutes from my house. Looks like some fantastic “low country” hiking. Check out these breathtaking photographs from somebody who went snow shoeing there [under a full moon](http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7363/11414306874_bbf31ca3a0_b.jpg) last night.

Wow. I might have to give that a whirl.

Good job, Pizzagirl! OK, I will start… My NY resolution is to stay healthy enough to actually run Boston :)!

Back to my running. There is no place like home! Mr B whined a bit that he gained 5 pounds during the trip. I think it is just water from the combo of the plane trip and his sodium heavy sashimi lunch. There is no way he consumed an extra 15,000 calories during the trip!

LA Lakers have a radical new nutrition plan:

It must be healthy:

Good grief…

I hear ya, idad
Moonlight snowshoeing sounds…and looks like an awesome idea. I always wait til dawn to go because my woods are dense in spots and I’m not entirely certain I want to know who’s up and about up there in the dark  Although maybe I should reconsider that position…it’s not like “they” wouldn’t hear me panting a mile away :)

PG, did you get to wear one of your smashing new holiday dresses??!!! :)

As for New Year plans - more of the same! I’m happy where I am and with what I’m doing overall - maybe start 5k-10k program, probably try to beat my collective miles from 2013, continue to add in a little strength/core training - I truly am pretty happy with where I am right now - I know that I will continue to get stronger and have better endurance just by keeping regular as I have been doing.

And keep repeating my mantra. “Exercise makes me feel good. Exercise is good for me. Exercise allows me to enjoy food!”

LOL, idad! Must be really, really good for ya. :)

My legs are sore from yesterday’s silly attempt at speeding up on the Precor. I lasted a whopping 45 seconds at 10mph (6 min pace). Mr B asked me if the treadmill was going berserk. Nope, it was not treadmill - it was my brain going nuts.
