4 miles after work (and a late start after work) yesterday that I did NOT want to do. There was a full moon and I had my headlamp, and it was relatively warm (40s), but I just wasn’t interested. There’s a new saying in the running community right now that came out of Austin and a running store called Rogue Running. It’s “Just F’ing Run”! (JFR for short) They are making car decals- JFR. I’m considering a tattoo. So- I JFRd.
This morning I pried myself out of the warm bed for 3 miles before work. I asked H why he thought my legs were feeling so tired. He said, “Well, maybe 810 days of straight running!” I need to get to the 2013 mile mark for the year.

Thanks for the encouragement, mommusic. With two dogs I do get quite a bit of exercise throughout the day and thankfully don’t have 8 hrs at a desk. I’d lose my mind! I primarily go to the gym to use the treadmill - it’s been dark when I have time to run and sadly I’m hoping for some reflective gear and a headlamp for Christmas. I don’t usually count the dogs as exercise…that’s therapy time!

Welcome DartDad17 - many levels of diet, fitness, exercise here but we all learn and support each other! Some of us like to be AMAZED by people like you with your fitness feats!

I feel like I’m NEVER going to see clear “run ways” outside here! I’ll be heading back to the indoor track sometime today. Ready for a December thaw!!! December is a busy month but I swore that I would do what I could, when I could and keep trying to make fitness a priority - so far I’ve managed 3-4 times a week besides the daily dog walking so I’m happy. In the midst of busyness, those minutes of fitness feel even MORE accomplished.

That’s why I ended up investing is some stuff for the house. I’ve got two kettleballs, some dumbbells, a stability ball, a weighted ball, and a TRX. It’s easy to do ten minutes with the kettleball or dumbbells and at least have done some weight bearing exercise. You’ve already got the aerobic portion covered with the dog.

I did the same: a kettlebell, some free weights, a Bosu ball, rubber bands. I do not even keep them in our “gym” (formal office room where we keep the Precor and Mr B’s bike), instead, they are scattered in the family room adjacent to the kitchen, so I can do a few squats or “Bosu ballet” while cooking. The only drawback is that Mr B the absentminded prof periodically trips over my brightly colored 15-pound dumbbells. :)

There is a gym not too far from my place that has no attendant or trainers, it is just a room filled with all sorts of exercise equipment, and members get key cards to come any time they please. I thought about joining, but then it would mean getting in the car and driving a few of miles (the road to get there is too busy for safe running). Nope.

I wish I could play Miami today just like I did yesterday ;), but home needs me, so off I go. Holiday party tonight, so I’m skipping lunch.

Trainer and swim yet again. This was more of a true training day. The swim was shorter, since it was IM day, but I was feeling the effects of the weights.

This will be a big eat training day as well…

I have a kettlebell and some dumbbells for home, but I actually like going to the gym. I work harder there than I do at home, so I think I’ll stick with the gym. I may possibly add a Bosu to the home setup. December is busy, so if I’m only exercising four times a week instead of six I think that will be okay.

A little reading for the swimmers:

<a href=“Ask Well: Benefits of Swimming - The New York Times”>Ask Well: Benefits of Swimming - The New York Times;
4.2 mile treadmill run followed by a couple of 1/10 mile sprints

I see what you did there, Bunsen!

sabaray- that’s an interesting article. When I was swimming on the Master’s team a lot of the folks talked about being famished after the workouts. I do agree that there seems to be more hunger after swimming than after running. It takes me awhile after a run to even feel hungry.

I worked with my trainer on TRX, and kettle bells today. She had me walking up/down steps (4x) between the various TRX and KB exercises. In addition to those exercises, I did lunges around the gym (holding a medicine ball) followed by squats going sideways with the resistance bands on my ankles. I usually go home and walk outside after a training session, but it was 11 degrees this morning, so I decided to use the tread mill and the elliptical. Spent 45 minutes on the tread mill (3 miles) and another 15 on the elliptical.

I have a question for folks who have a trainer–I’ve had the same trainer off/on for the last four years. I’ve never given her a holiday gift, but I noticed today that there were gifts on her desk and on those of the other trainers. It looked to me like people had left homemade goodies. I really do like my trainer and I think she’s helped me quite a bit so I’d like to give her something, but not sure what. I don’t bake–so that’s out and it seems contrary to the whole fitness/health thing. I could take a bottle of wine but that’s probably in the same category as baked goods. I’m thinking a Starbucks gift card–there’s one not too far from the gym and I know she drinks coffee. Anyone have suggestions? Don’t want to spend more than $25.

I always think baked goods are iffy. Some people are put off when they don’t know how clean your kitchen is and what if the baked goods don’t taste good. Idk but I pass on those kind of things. Besides I would think a trainer is trying like the rest of us, to eat less junk…

Anyways, I think starbucks is great. Who wouldn’t like starbucks lol! Or a nice bottle of wine, that always seems to be a good gift, if they don’t drink they can take it as a hostess gift for their Christmas dinner.

3.5 miles at a good pace.

Starbucks isn’t just for coffee - I think anyone could put a gift card there to good use. Much better option than baked goods if they have already received some.

I’m not a big fan of gift cards, but this is just the sort of thing they are useful for. Would it make more sense for it to be a gift card to some place that sells sporting goods or clothing? It sounds like they are getting a lot of food already!

When I first started swimming masters, I had to come home and eat before I could do anything else. Later I adapted and could swim and then not immediately have to eat. It is fun to cook for my swim friends.

About the gift for trainer: I got a bottle of wine. He doesn’t go to Starbucks, but that is a good default gift if you don’t know of something more specific.

6.6 slow miles but felt pretty good other than really wishing I’d eaten something ahead of the run. I never know what to eat so that’s something to figure out. I’ve been eating what I feel like (which thankfully doesn’t include bad stuff) and my weight is stable for the first time in forever. I’d like to lose 10 more pounds but I’m feeling pretty happy where I’m at.

Bromfield, another idea – iTunes gift card.

Elliptical followed by a some fast 266/400 meter intervals. Fast twitch muscles were firing tonight!

Snow shovel dead lifts and snow shovel sled pushes for me. We got another 6 to 8 inches of snow on top of the 12 inches from Sunday. This will probably end up being the biggest 3-day snow accumulation of the winter. Just came in from the second go round of clearing the deck and digging the car out. Now, I’ll just have to go out and move the car at 6 am when the plow guy comes. I couldn’t face another day of shovelling first thing. Most of the neighbors had the same idea. A flurry of snow shoveling from 9 to 10 pm. 14 degrees.

The worst of it is I can even take a day to go snow shoeing as I’m in the throes of trying to get ready for Christmas.

Walk after lunch and brisk walk before dinner. Treat of the day is definitely the whole wheat blueberry muffins I made.

Bromfield, I like the coffee gift card idea. Or a card for your local Book store !

Deborah beat me to the punch with the iTunes card. What about an amazon card?
