Who really knows how far anybody’s running with a Garmin? I gather they’re not infallible either.

Thanks Momo! I’m a RunKeeper guy and for Christmas I bought the new Pebble to interface with my IPhone, hoping it would eliminate pulling it out to check my vitals. Now, I’m hearing not so positive reviews from avid runners. Thats what I get for not doing due diligence before purchasing.

Garmins are accurate within a couple of percent. Being an engineer, I check that kind of thing out! It IS funny to me how people will get upset after a race - “That was more than a 5K! My Garmin said I ran 3.2 miles!”

I will hit 500 miles for the year soon. Not nearly as much as I’d hoped for, but I’m shooting for 1,000 miles in 2014. I did 5.1 miles on the treadmill tonight.

I graph my miles on RunningAhead.com. For example, I have a bar chart of the distance I ran each of the last 52 weeks. It’s a great way to see how consistent I’ve been (haven’t been!) this year. I also plot my weight vs. pace, to see if I get faster as I lose weight.

Garmins are generally pretty accurate. They can glitch if you are surrounded by tall buildings or in a dense forest, but they sure beat driving your car around a route or guessing by your pace.

@Maine, so i take it that the Garmin interfaces with RunningAhead. I will check it out and see if does with the Pebble. Thanks for the heads up guys! :)

I use a spiral bound diary. I like to leaf through pages, especially at year end. Probably should use an online journal as I get more serious about training. Buddy of mine won’t log junk miles on his Nike GPS watch as he doesn’t want to screw up his pace average. He’ll stop watch at traffic lights. I tell him it’s cheating because he’s catching his breath!

@Ohio- That is cheating! :)

“It IS funny to me how people will get upset after a race - “That was more than a 5K! My Garmin said I ran 3.2 miles!””

It might also have something to do with zigzagging around slowpokes, chicking and geezering, jumping over puddles, etc. My last marathon was 26.37 miles or so- there were puddles, mud, and dog walkers on the trails. Oh, and how could I forget the MOOSE!

I hate stoplights - it is not cool to see my pace average go down! But I would not stop the watch. :)

In training I always stop my watch at lights, bathroom stops, water stops etc. most everyone I know does! too. I want to know my running pace. In races, no stopping of the watch.

Well, I finally broke away from cooking, eating, drinking, wrapping, and grocery shopping (yikes) long enough to get a workout in. First exercise in five days. All my joints were starting to freeze up. It’s amazing how much better everything works with a little exercise!

Cleared away the boxes and wrapping paper from the weight bench and did one of my usual workouts.

Warmup, whick I really needed.

CORE:
Farmer’s carry, front plank rows, side plank rows.

POWER:
KB swing, med ball slams

STRENGTH:
Single leg squat, TRX inverted rows, Hex bar deadlift, alternating DB overhead press

Lobster green thai curry with red bell pepper, broccoli, and snow peas. Two 1.25 lb lobsters per person. Yum…

And for your holiday viewing pleasure, I came across this interesting video of a pretty quick jaunt up Mt. Washington:

Great job! My rule #1 of home gym: never put any stuff on the exercise equipment! Or, if it happens, remove said stuff as fast as you can  Only human bodies are allowed on the equipment. Well, maybe a cat or two if they like to exercise could be an exception.
My weights are begging for my attention… :)

Oh, the wrapping on the weight bench was temporary. Wrapped some, cleared it to the side, and commenced to working out…

Well, as the official least likely to exercise vigorously on this thread, I will say that I too broke with five days of sloth yesterday and at least got on the dreadmill for a spell :)

I too was getting achy without a proper bout of exertion. But the skedder toward the end of last week with all the morning contractors ate up my hill time, and it hasn’t gotten light enough to beat that phenom, so until the studio construction is in hand, I may have to settle for dreadmill in the dark instead of the hill at dawn. I am not likely to be near a kettlebell again until this weekend either.

Neither phenom bodes well with the festivities ahead, so my New Years resolution might be as simple as getting back to a proper routine again til the 2014 holidays derail me again :)

Did it! Hit 2000 miles at 3.1 miles into my 6.2 mile run this morning. Stopped and noted the spot and did a little celebration dance! (stopped my watch, too) It was 26 degrees with a NW wind. I wore the bright yellow Lulu puff pullover. So I’m at 2003.1 for the year so far. Then I went to Dunkin Donuts to get donut holes for the big dog for Christmas and managed to get myself 2 donuts, too. Oh well.(just call me Miami)

There can only be one Miami, MOWC! Congratulations! Awesome achievement.

Yay, MOWC. 200o miles. I think I can safely say:

We are not worthy! :)

Happy dance for MOWC!! Fun to reach it on the holiday of sorts - with a few days to spare and a coast into your final hopeful total of 2013!!!

Really, it is an amazing feat. (Feet??!). :)

Thanks. It really is a lot of mileage. In 2009 I hit 2000 during The Monkey, which was really cool. But- I am not the runner I was in 2009!

I need to get myself a mileage goal - I feel out of the loop, LOL!

3.4 mile run at the gym

Onward, worthies, one and all!
