Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Mileage? Hah.

Today’s goal was to get DH and S out of the house for a walk. Success! Even though it was in the low 20s and breezy, the sun was shining. It felt pretty good. :)

Now we can sit around and watch a movie in good conscience.

PG, the other thing you could do since you enjoy fitness classes and such is to make a time goal - 3 hours of fitness a week, or 15 hours a month or whatever - then pile all your exercise whether class or walks or runs or at home equipment time all into one nice goal!!!

Re Bunsenburners post 33288 and MOWC 33289, on all my group cycling rides, everyone is tricked out with the latest and greatest in bike computers, GPS, Powermeters, etc. Our cardinal rule is that after the ride, we take the fastest speed reading, the longest distance and the shortest time from among all the devices and that becomes the official “log” of the ride for bragging purposes. And then all us techno-dweebs go home and record the actual readings from our own devices in our own training logs. We’re a mess with our competitiveness but it’s all fun.

On another note, now that I’ve passed the “60” mark, I’ve been giving a lot of thought about Act II in my life. About 30 years ago, I came within an arm’s reach of buying a small gym and changing careers. Decided against it. I’ve revisited my old dream of running a fitness facility and am about 6 weeks into the ACE Personal Trainer certification program. The hard sciences aspects of it are a killer (anatomy, physiology, kinesiology) and I feel like I’m back in college but with an age besotted mush brain! My 24 yr old daughter, who has multiple fitness certifications and works in the fitness industry to pay her bills while auditioning for performing gigs, just smiles and shakes her head.

Have a happy and healthy New Year to all on this Board and here’s to achieving all your fitness goals in the new year.

haha. I don’t currently hold any fitness certifications, but I understand how difficult some of that material is! But it’s one of those things that I enjoy… so much that my mentor from college included an anatomy question on her Christmas card this year :)

Michael- that is really cool! Good luck and keep us posted.

Congrats MOWC! So happy for you!

Crazy 2 months but have been coping by getting back in to my exercise groove. Sweating on the recumbent bike and dreadmill in the gym. I still look like a sweaty mess but who cares! Have been averaging over 5 miles a day between the two exercises. Really need to get back to the weights though. Merry Christmas to all!

Happy holidays to all.

Presents wrapped. Head start on cooking with the stuffing made and onions for creamed onions braised…

Merry Christmas! Push-ups followed by a steak dinner and (holy sin!) a slice of cake. The cake has been stitting in the freezer since summer, but was still perfect: real butter in the pastry and cream in the frosting. Ahhh… the last good “eurocake”! Too bad Liudmilla sold her bakery to some gals who are now trying to incorporate some “healthy” ingredients into her creations. Sad, but probably good for my waistline - I’m not interested in those “healthy” cakes.

Congrats to MOfWC! 2000 by Christmas. Awesome. :)

Kudos, MomWC!

And Merry Christmas/Happy Holidays to all!

MOWC, congrats on hitting 2000! Year after year, your dedication and consistency are inspirational.

Thanks, Michael. It’s just become part of who I am. 4.2 miles mid-morning. It was 35 by the time I ran (started at 18 this morning) and I way over-dressed. Drinking homemade eggnog (daughter’s) and eating way too much food now. 2 new pairs of Hokas under the tree!
Merry Christmas, group! I continue to really appreciate this thread and our gang here.

Running Christmas gifts - shirts shorts bright colored pullover ( wife worried about m running in the dark) running diary, new gps watch, running books, knobby foam roller. Ran an hour today. Think I’m going to compete in Masters indoor track meet in March so it’s time to ramp things up!

Merry Christmas, everyone. Turkey is cooked and eaten. Two bottles of vintage port knocked back. Guests have left. And, I’ve had just about enough holidays! I can finally get back in my computer room (it doubles as my guest bedroom)…

14 degrees when I put my turkey on the grill at noon today. Yeow.

I need some exercise… I snagged a workout on Monday, but it’s been impossible otherwise. A break won’t kill me, but my body likes it better when I get a little exericise.

^^^ agreed - a little break is ok but I’d really rather have it.

Hope you all had a nice day. Running related gifts included an ornament in honor of my first 5k’s, running gloves and a new reversible Nike fleece headband. Ill be treating myself to a quarter zip dri fit top/jacket or two after the holidays!!!

I got a really cool Monkey ornament in honor of the Monkey Marathon.

A little holiday inspiration:

[Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat 160lbs x10 ( 2 - 36K kettlebells) - YouTube](<a href=“Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat 160lbs x10 ( 2 - 36K kettlebells) - YouTube”>Rear Foot Elevated Split Squat 160lbs x10 ( 2 - 36K kettlebells) - YouTube)

160 lb rear foot elevated split squats. Another one of Boyle’s US Women’s Hockey team members.

I do 60 lb for ten reps.

And, the good news. I didn’t do too much damage with Christmas dinner. One plate: turkey, stuffing, gravy, and creamed onions. Passed on the cranberry sauce.

Fruit and two small gingerbread cookie for dessert with a [1977 Ferrara Vintage Port](http://media-s3.viva-images.com/vivastreet_gb/clad/41/4/60487474/large/1.jpg), which is decidedly not lo carb.

I seriously could not even list everything I ate yesterday. Ranged from Tj’s Fig Butter on cheese to rare beers, wines, pumpkin pie and my special cranberry dressing (one of the 2 items I actually make).

In the last week I’ve only done three long walks with DH and one short run. We have a long car trip next week. I know I prob. wont get back on my reg. run/workouts until after the new year when we go back to work/regular routine. The good news is that I haven’t gained any weight over the holidays so far.

My Christmas dinner plate…pork bbq, coleslaw, collards and roasted veggies. Had greek yogurt topped with frozen bananas for dessert. I resisted the sweet potatoes, cornbread, baked beans and brownies w/ ice cream.

I resisted nothing yesterday! And enjoyed it all! But kept my portions small so IMO, no biggie. We had some quiche and fruit at home in the ironing and then the appetizer spread in the afternoon- two meals, not obscene quantities, and nicely enjoyed from Asian meatballs to pork carnitas to from scratch nachos (homemade chips, cheese sauce and pickled onions - stellar!) to sriracha wings. And deep dish apple pie for dessert - but just a small piece!

Hoping to get in a little workout today - was hoping for an outside run since its 30ish but we woke up to about an inch of snow - I’m chicken on snowy walkways.
