Yeah, my crystal ball shows snow shovelling in my future. :)

Alas the dairy study was one of those pretty worthless studies where they ask people what they ate for the last eight years and then “correlate” with disease, weight, and so forth. I can barely remember what I ate yesterday. The only thing I know for sure about eight years ago is that I probably ate some red twizzlers and drank some Pepsi.

The study was pretty thin gruel as far as actually proving anything. I just thought the NPR podcast was hilarious. They were all so breathlessly shocked that somebody wouldn’t immediately keel over dead just from a whiff of whole fat milk…

What a topsy-turvy world,. huh? It’s nutritionally accepted to add sugar to milk, but it’s an extreme diet to drink milk that hasn’t had all of the natural whole-food fat removed from it. Honestly, I think the public health people should just get rid of dietary guidelines. We’d be a lot better off if they stopped “helping” us so much.

Missing Sabaray, Plantmom, NMinn, and others…you motivate me - please check in!!!

3 miles, 2 at race pace (kind of)

Yes, like Abasket said, we miss you! Would love an update.

Gym workout
!/2 running (not race pace), 1/2 cycling

Forerunner currently in IL. Plenty of wind scheduled for the next several days to keep me on the treadmill.

Deborah - I bet your Forerunner is hanging out with my running bras
that have been snowed in in IL as well. ;)

I’ve been thinking about CJane as well as the other posters… I wonder how they all are doing…

Just finished an hour and a half of free weights. Time for lunch, then snow blower with cycling wattage intervals tonight. Want to earn that cup of Giradelli’s hot chocolate (made with skim milk) that I know I’m gonna have after dealing with 10 inches of snow!

Could be a dicey time for me. Yesterday morning I woke up with a sore lower back, but went to water aerobics and personal trainer anyway (told him about my back so he changed up my routine), thinking I had slept on it wrong or something. Really got worse throughout the day and into the evening, and for the life of me I couldn’t figure out what I had done to it… until this morning around 5:30AM. When H leaves for work then, he brings the pooch upstairs to our bedroom (he sleeps most of the night in his crate in the basement due to his occasional habit of waking up and barking around 3 or 4), where pooch sleeps until I’m ready to get up a few hours later. This morning it occurred to me that pooch likes to sleep on top of me (he weighs about 18 lbs.), whether I’m laying on my back or side… yes, it gets tricky trying to find the right spot when I’m lying on my side where he doesn’t fall off. I think yesterday morning, he must have found a good spot for him, that was not so good for my back and stayed there a while. He’s never there when I wake up, as he moves when he gets too hot, so he’s on the bed somewhere else. But I suspect he spent an hour or more, lying on my side yesterday morning, causing my back to shift around and tighten up. I really have no idea how I’m going to handle a four-hour flight tomorrow, except by taking some ibuprofen or acetaminophen. I skipped my volunteer activity for today because it involves standing on my feet, bending over a table for a couple of hours, and I’m skipping the gym. When I’m up walking around, it’s not too bad, but as soon as I sit down for a while, then get up, it hurts pretty bad until I can get moving. Right now, I’m half lying/half sitting on the couch, which is about the only position I can get comfortable in. Off to try to pack now!

Oh, Teri! I hope you get some relief! Bunsen and Deborah- I think my Brooks shorts (new Pure Project clothing line) escaped from your bras and Garmin and made it to TN. On the truck for delivery today! I also got two gorgeous new Nuu-Muus this week. I think I’ll wear one in my 15K (Hot Chocolate Run) on Saturday.

Mad props to my UPS driver. He not only made it out of Hodkins, IL, but he braved a raging Nor’easter to deliver winter clothing sale goodies right to my back door.

I am starting to figure out this winter stuff. I always came in from shoveling snow totally drenched in sweat. That’s a big mistake, but it only seemed logical to put on a heavy winter snow jacket in a blizzard, right?

I’m learing that it’s far better to dress cold, so that when you are hiking uphill or shovelling snow, you aren’t hot enough to sweat much. So, I shovelled today in just power stretch fleece tights and top, with unlined rain shell pants and jacket over them. 25 degrees, snow blowing sideways. I would have frozen to stand out in it for long, but the work of shovelling made it just right. Came it, took the rain paints and jacket off, and was perfectly dry.

Hence ordering a bunch of much lighter layers. These Power Dry High Efficiency tops are just baselayer shirts. I’ve hiked the last two times (in the teens and in the 20s) in just one of these layered over a long sleeve tech T shirt.

Sigh. I’m not going to be able to go to Camp iDad in my next life and hire him as my personal cook and trainer since there won’t be enough closet space!

Lol MOWC. I think we should all go to NH and have a group hike with Idad. Day 4 of my streak…no sodas!

Second round of snow shovelling in the books. Third round before bed as we are supposed to get a bit of freezing rain, then heavy snow again overnight. Fun, fun, fun.

Good job on the sodas, busyparent! I am on Day 4 of no sugar treats or alcohol. I actually had a mini Three Muskateers in my hand yesterday at work and I tossed it! Chipping away at the pounds that arrived during the 3 months of pigging out (Oct-Dec).
3 1/2 miles after work. Balmy 45 down to 41 while I ran. No hat or gloves, but my hands got a little chilly so I used the thumb hole thingies in my new Marmot fleece. Didn’t need the headlamp for the first mile, which was nice.

I would almost swear, that, up until I started reading your posts about wearing headlamps, that I never saw anyone using one. Now I’ve seen about a half dozen this year (not that I still don’t see people out running after dark without them).

I love thumb hole thingies!!!

33 min run at the gym. Was actually 33 and sunny outside (for about a minute) and would have been fine for a run outside but STILL so much snow and a ridiculous amount of ice - no can do!!!

Teri- I hope you feel better and can get up and walk around during your flight tomorrow.

I was in California for 10 days on vacation and didn’t track much on my fitbit or anything at all on myfitnesspal. The weather there was incredible and I spent most of my time walking on the beautiful beaches and in town. I arrived home before today’s storm and plan to start tracking again tomorrow. I am sure I would weigh ten pounds less and exercise A LOT more if I lived in California!!!

Santa Barbara weather. Just rub it in. I just came in from the third round of snow shoveling. A nice hard crust of freezing rain has now entomed all the snow, cars, steps, etc. 32 degrees, 20 mph wind, and rain. Good test of a GoreTex rain shell… Fortunately, I’ve got all the snow from my deck and around my little patch of driveway cleared, so I won’t have much digging out when the plowman honks in the morning.

No workout for me today. Just shovelling. Not sore from hiking yesterday, so that’s a bonus.

Terriwit:

Hope your back feels better quickly. Sometimes those things only last a day or two.

I love it when the plow leaves the three foot high mountain of snow at the bottom of the driveway, right after you’ve shoveled it out.

I would like to shake the hand of whoever invented the snowblower.

Took an hour to shovel the front walk, the snow was really heavy.

How many weeks until spring???

Spring is overdue as at as I’m concerned!

Teri, hope you wake up feeling somewhat improved for your flight.

Peaceful, how nice to spend 10 days in sunny CA. Pick back up with your FitBit and food tracking tomorrow - I KNOW you can do it!! :)

MOWC:

Good job turning up your nose at the Three Muskateers bar.

I’m making some progress on getting rid of my winter poundage. Back to my October weight. My 7-day average is down 3.6 pounds from where it was four weeks ago.

I hate nickle and diming over a couple of pounds, but I have a line in the sand. I can’t ever creep back up 10 pounds if I nip it in the bud before it gets to 5! Tracking food for a while shines a light on those extra snacks, and creeping portions…
