I agree with MKAT on the scales. Unfortunately, the really nice heavy duty Tanita scales all have the body fat function. So, I just ignore it. I have found the Tanita scale to be accurate and repeatable.

Personally, I have found that daily weighing first thing in the morning has been helpful both in fat loss and maintenance. However. there are some pitfalls with using the scale. For example, you could get great news on the scale if you lost a limb in an accident, but that’s not exactly the best approach for health and fitness. For many people, the healthiest thing they could do is lose body fat and gain muscle. The scale could say the same, even though they are fitting in smaller pants.

One thing I do know for sure: what I ate yesterday generally has nothing to do with the scale today. What I ate last week makes a difference…

Glad you got your Garmin, Deborah and that you were so close on your distance. It’s always a little discouraging if you are way off, back in the pre-Garmin days we got some unwelcome surprises with some of our “fast” courses!

Tried out the treadmill and I like it. We have a lot to do in terms of the entertainment setup, but I like that it has speakers for my iPod so I don’t need to use headphones.

Awesome, MOfWC! Enjoy your new toys, everyone! (Mine has nothing to do with exercising - it is in the hated chores thread, LOL).

Giving my leg muscles a break from running today, although they are not too beat up. Core and weights are in the evening plans. One interesting thing: I discovered that ever since I started taking magnesium pills after my runs, my legs are much less tired!

Abasket- love your personal escort!

BB, I figured it this way, figured it that way, in general had fun obsessing. Most recently I had wanted to check if one of my estimated 1/3 mile segments was a little longer. I counted steps every time my right foot hit for each segment of the run, lol. Hey, it kept me amused and that run went by really fast.

I have a couple of parts that recently decided to stage a revolt, so I’m taking it easier than usual on some of what I do.

Abasket, good hubby!

Now, all you need is your very own iPod nazi, yellin’ at you to run faster on the treadmill! And, then there are political podcasts. Or nutrition and fitness. I’m queued up with some NFL draft combine analysis podcasts for tomorrow…

abasket:

I hate missing turns. I’m spoiled now, though. I use my GPS in car mode to get me to the trail, then switch it over to hiking mode for keeping me on the little red line through the woods. It’s overkill for the places I hike, but it’s good piece of mind.

Abasket, too cute
If that happened to me I’m afraid they’d have to send a St. Bernard :)

Apparently we have the distinction here of being the third snowiest city in the US. Unfortunately, most of it is on my low-pitched roof. Had the guy out again yesterday as while the other leaks have stopped, a new one has developed in the master bedroom.

I loved the sun and balmy above-freezing temps yesterday, but its exacerbating the damming and given that its to turn cold again, may cause more trouble than its worth :)

Hill was very sloggy yesterday due to the combo of new snow and warmer temps. Heavy heavy treading. My pool looks like a stadium bowl this morning. On the up side, I’m hoping that means the snow mountains melt toward it instead of the house…

I am slowly de-pounding from the VDay getaway epicurean debauch. I suppose I have the clean eating, hill and the roof to thank because I have not picked up a kettlebell this week. I hope that post-move I can get back in the groove. T-minus 8 days!

Great story Abasket.

This is my third day off after the ice fall. I’m definitely getting better. By the end of the first day, I realized that while my hip was sore, I had pulled a groin muscle. Did the RICE thing–which was really helpful. I’m going to give it another day before I go to the gym. I’m going to sign up for spinning class on Saturday.

Also, I purchased some microspikes from EMS and intend to wear them whenever there’s ice–http://www.ems.com/product/index.jsp?productId=21078496&emssrcid=PPC%3AgooPLAs%3AbrandKahtoola&utm_source=gooPLAs&utm_term=brandKahtoola&utm_campaign=Product+Listing+Ads&device=c&network=g&matchtype=&gclid=CJbEg66G27wCFcEDOgodugkArQ</a></p>

My kids gave me a gift certificate to Athleta for my birthday–here’s what I bought (use it to wear to yoga)
Athleta;

Love that hoodie, Bromfield2.

What is it like walking in microspikes on bare pavement?

I took a fall shoveling my front walkway on Tuesday when I hit some ice that was lurking under the snow. Fortunately I landed in the giant pile of snow next to the walkway so I didn’t get hurt at all, but I am thinking something like this might be helpful.

Most of the time when I shovel or use the snowblower I get down to bare pavement or very close, so they might be overkill.

Abasket, that is a cute story! :)

Rain, rain, go away… BB needs some miles to run!

Notrich, I’m picturing you landing in a snowbank - lol!!! I think many of us REALLY need this bad weather to disappear before we really, really get injured!!!

Brom, I like your hoodie too!

We are supposed to have really severe weather this evening- possible tornadoes. It’s 70 degrees- after being 10 degrees last week… This is just crazy.

A dose of virtual vitamin D.

:)
and a little doggie love :o3

I’d add a kitty cat, too, but I don’t think there’s an emoticon. Meow, meow.

Bromfield, cute hoodie.

If it helps, it was pretty much a face plant. :)

That’s the second fall for me this year… I hope it is just the weather, and not my encroaching old age.

deleted.

Walking on bare pavement in the micro spikes it was like walking in golf shoes if you know what that is like.

Or bike cleats probably

3.3 miles on snow shoes in deep soft snow. I guessed correctly that it would be snowy conditions after 16 inches of snow in the last two days. I definitely did not want to break trail and climb a mountain at the same time, so headed for the awesome state park not too far away and snow shoed along the lakes, amongst the massive boulders, through the woods, and up and down rolling hills. Most of it was fresh snow on top of existing snow shoe and ski tracks, so slow going, but not breaking trail in deep snow. A few spots had snowmobile tracks which make for easy snow shoeing.

Temps ranged from 33 to 43 degrees. Downright balmy. So no long johns. No multiple layers. Just [soft shell Scree pants](http://cdnmedia.marmot.com/images/product/hires/80950_001_f.jpg) and a [Marmot Thermo Power Dry half zip top](http://cdnmedia.marmot.com/images/product/hires/83670_2072_f.jpg). Perfect, even if melting snow from the trees overhead made for a bit of drizzle on cloudless, blue sky day.
