Shovelling workout #1 for the day complete. I’d say that we had another 8 inches. I don’t know about ya’ll, but I’ve about decided that we have to do something about this global warming. Enough is enough already.

Talk about treacherous. It was glare ice, polished ice skating rink glare ice, under the snow. I just about busted my butt. When I go out later for round 2, I’m wearing the MicroSpikes.

Walked the quarter mile round trip down the mailbox. Ankle deep snow. Shoulda put the snow shoes on, but…sheesh…

I’ve got a new technique on clearing the deck. Instead of shoveling the snow off the deck to the pavement and then shovelling that pile out where the plow can get it when he goes by, I shovel the deck onto the hood of the car. Then, back the car up and push all the snow off the car where the plow can get it.

Snow shovelling Round #2. Another four inches. We got at least a foot, total. After I got my little bit cleared off, I joined in a gang of 7 neighbors and dug out six more cars. Made pretty quick work of it with that many people, but a good 1.5 hours of snow shovelling. I think I can probably skip the weightlifting tonight. :)

MicroSpikes worked great. I am making it a priority to stop falling on the ice…

I really feel for you folks with all the snow and ice. As much as we ■■■■■ around here about just being cold…I can’t imagine!
My treadmill is coming tomorrow. It was 62 degrees after work today when I ran. I didn’t need the headlamp until 2 1/2 miles. 5 miles done.
I am now in the results for the 15K and did win the age group. My time is still off a little, but I’m not going to push the issue. You can not even imagine the picture they emailed me to confirm my finish. It was some sort of screen shot from their video feed and it was so distorted that I, literally, looked twice my size. I sent it to my daughter to see if she thought it was really me! She said, “Um, those are your clothes!” I said, “Please tell me I didn’t look like that!” She assured me that I did not. My co-workers thought it was hilarious and that I should make it my facebook profile picture. It was like one of those fun house mirrors that make you twice as wide. I emailed the race timing guy back and said that it was, in fact, me, but that I was really only half that size. H pointed out that all the runners around me were very wide as well.

DebT…I have had various tests over the years but I don’t think it’s medical. My brother is an alcoholic ( been in recovery for almost twenty years) and food is like alcohol for me. Some things trigger a binge. I am better off not starting certain foods because then I want to eat more. One trigger is also being ‘stuffed’. Weird, but feeling full makes me want to eat more to stay feeling full. It will be a lifelong struggle but I am going to succeed.

@Bromfield - your fall is one of my greatest fears. How I’ve managed not to fall on ice after almost 30 years in the midwest befuddles me - it makes me think my luck is about to run out. Hope you’re feeling better today.

@MOWC - hopefully your picture won’t go up on their website!

Indoor track at the college field house tonight. 4 x 200. 4 x 400… Mile warmup/ warmdown. Focus on striding, running relaxed. Still undecided if I should run boston masters indoor in March. Seed times are super fast. Racing is more about getting mind ready than the legs. Will have to increase frequency and intensity of intervals if I want to medal.

4 miles after work - on my home treadmill.

Sunny and 60’s in NC yesterday. Ran 5 miles after work. Wore a long sleeve shirt and capris. Quickly regretted the long sleeve shirt.

@broomfield…no good deed goes unpunished, as the say. But I’m pretty sure you get extra healing fairy dust for your efforts!

Idad, very creative snow organization. I didn’t exactly top that yesterday per se, but as I was telling the gals in my parents thread, I got sick of wading bare-legged thru the snow to the hot tub, which was low on water, so mad a spectacle of myself yesterday shoveling snow INTO the hot tub. There were a few unintended consequences…the water needed to be de-leafed a bit (how leaves got into a pile that’s four feet tall I can’t imagine) and if I’m lucky it might be back up to 104 today after dropping 40 degrees…but hey, at least I can GET to the hottub now.

On the down side, I had to forsake the hill because I ran out of time…for that I will be especially sorry today as there had been at least six fresh inches!

Busyparent, I get wide fluctuations like that if I eat wheat. I wonder if you’re a bit allergic to wheat or something else you eat. The allergy at a low level turns up as inflammation, which seems to add water weight…because it will go away again quickly after a few days of “no wheat.” Just a thought. Of course, even nosing this doesn’t stop me from tumbles from the wheat free wagon.

VERY jealous Packmom…of the temps, of being outside, of wearing your capris - even of your regret to not wear long sleeves!
Suppose to be 42 and sunny here today - I’m putting out a call to see if anyone knows of a trail or area that IS totally clear of snow/ice that I might get out on. The neighborhood will not cut it for a long while yet - the ice is not going away for a long, long time.

60 degrees this morning and I have been so cold for so long that I didn’t remember what to wear! I over-dressed in a heavier Lulu top (like Bunsen’s striped one) and capris. It felt good to be warm, though.

Scale read 2 pounds less this am than yesterday, just to show you how much things can fluctuate.

I just have to stay off the scale for awhile because yesterday I voided so often that I thought, ok this was that sudden 4 pounds of increase, but today the scale was not down one bit. I did resist the key lime pie though :)

Busy, do you have a “good” scale??? I have talked to friends who are relying on an older inexpensive scale that just isn’t accurate anymore - no wonder they are frustrated!!! Some of the newer ones are much more precise.

Husband tells me that one of the trails at a local park (he works in our county park system) is clear - hoping to give it a try later! (then, HE will be to blame if I slip on any ice!!!)

To all fearful of a nosedive on the ice: Did you notice the spiked shoes the bobsled pushers wear? Tiny little spikes that are perfect on the ice!

Today was in the upper 50s and we are in slush season. On my walk I alternated between bare sidewalk, slushy snow, and small ponds of water! Oh, but the sunshine was great! More expected tomorrow, until it turns cold again.

These are what I have for traction in the snow. http://www.amazon.com/Due-North-Everyday-Traction-Medium/dp/B00DBR636E/ref=sr_1_26?s=shoes&ie=UTF8&qid=1392848241&sr=1-26&keywords=yaktrax

Rest day for me but it was so beautiful, 3 mile walk outside. Wore my sunglasses. It was heavenly!

New toy is here. Happy to see I’ve been estimating pretty well on the outdoor path I run most often. I’m actually a little surprised to discover just how close to spot on I was.

Just shoot me now. We got more snow this afternoon. Just finished up shovelling another 4 to 5 inches. Piece of cake compared to the big dumps we’ve been getting, but still… Enough is enough.

Deborah - what were you using before the Garmin? Just Google maps estimates or mile markers? On the trail where I run, the markers were placed somewhat arbitrarily, 0.8-1.2 miles apart, but over a longer distance it averages out somewhat accurately. :)

Those are cool Deb922 - you like the way they work??

GUESS WHAT?! I ran outside today!!! At least I can say I did it once in February. 41 degrees at 4pm. 30mins, a little hilly, 2.80 miles. To the ankle running tights, tshirt with a light fleece over it, a neck Dickie , running gloves and a Nike headband. Ended up pulling off the gloves and didn’t need the Dickie once I got going.

Embarrassing moment: So my husband works for the local park system. He told me that the trail at this park I was at was clear of ice and snow - and it was!!! However I was so enjoying the scenery I got mixed up and turned around and I started running in circles - had to call him and get directions to find the parking lot and my car!!! Duh!! Of course he wanted to make sure I got out safely so he comes driving up in a park vehicle literally behind me to make sure I’m on the right track. My own personal running escort service. Blushing… :)

MOWC, enjoy the new treadmill. Even though I’m not a runner anymore, the technology of the new Landices is enticing.

On the subject of scales, if shopping for a new digital scale, look for one that has at least 2 sensors in it. Don’t be misled by the number of footpads on the top surface. It’s the internal sensors that count and many digital scales have only one. Also, all the bells and whistles are junk. A scale is for weight. Not body fat %, not BMI. And in particular, the body fat % on digital scales is about as inaccurate and unreliable as you can get given the limits to the electric impedance based technology at consumer price points and the myriad of variables that no home user can effectively control for such as hydration levels.
