Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Good morning. What I wish is that supplements were regulated properly  I pay a service fee for an online service (consumerlab) just to try to figure out which companies actually a) have the percentages of active ingredients they claim and b) have nothing that’s not supposed to be in them. It’s an eye-opener.

So I’d likely be in the expensive vitamin camp  (I tend to buy things that are sold in Canada and have a DIN number, only because they’re typically at least monitored for ingredient composition.)

Of course, all the supplements in the world can’t touch things like adequate protein, resistance work, sunlight, good food, and good thoughts, so those are my prime objectives  I am falling down on the resistance work lately and have to start remedying that in short order! Then again, with all the moving activity, its been hard to face a kettlebell when you’re already sore, exhausted, and overworked.

The heavy-lifting part is now done…the last piece was a new office fridge I picked up last night (literally ;)) so I have no further excuse, save overwork…which I must force myself to control.

Even though the weather’s been sub zero in the last few a.m.s, there’s been glorious sun early morning. I think the snowshoeing of the hill combined with my d regimen has put SAD to rest this year, because if I were ever going to have it again, it would be this endless winter. But I actually feel good!

Which is not to say I’m not jealous as he’ll of our beach runners. MomWC, I nearly cried with longing after your beach sunrise report  But I think “picturing” it gave me a little dose of happy!

Kcmom - any thoughts on SAMs club vitamins?

Bunsen- I was thinking this morning, as I was in the basement on the treadmill in mis-matched gear, that all my cool looking stuff doesn’t do much for me in the basement! Like iDad says, though, it makes you feel good to wear it!

Still plugging away here in the cold. Supposed to get above freezing this week. Hooray! Back to the gym for recumbent and dreadmill.

Did two hot yoga classes last night - one was a yoga/pilates combo and the other was a CorePower 1 (sort of the “basic”). Traveling today, but plan to either run or do yoga in my room tonight. Doing pretty well on the food front. Actually lost 1.8 pounds in my 2 weeks in Asia, which I was amazed at, as it was so hard to keep on the straight and narrow.

3 mile lhr run. No beach today :(

Trainer and swim. I will be sore tomorrow.

Clicked “submit” on my first race of 2014 this morning. As the current outdoor situation here is not too stellar (snow galore!) and this race is in less than 2 weeks, we’ll see if I made a mistake! It’s actually a 7K - 4.3 miles. Odd number, I know, but sounded like a good challenge for me. Like Deb922 said before, I know that at the least I can walk it!! If the weather would cooperate, it could be a beautiful route - near the lake and at a state park. But…not holding my breath! The fee was small ($18) so I figured worth the risk. Ahhhh, here we go…!!!

Don’t have much time to post as I’m on my way out the door to my Tuesday volunteer activity, but I had a doctor’s appointment this morning, and I’m about 15 lbs. less than I thought I’d be (I haven’t looked at scale numbers since last summer so I had no idea how much I’d put back on), and down 4 lbs. from December when I saw him. Hmmmm… I guess some of this stuff is working.

Worked out with the trainer–we did TRX (squats with one leg on the boss ball, lunges, rows, flies, and push-ups) and then switched to heavy weights–leg press, bench press, ropes, and pushing a sled with 40 lb weight on it. After weights I did 65 minutes on the elliptical machine. Pulled muscle is getting better, but I still can tell it’s not 100%.

Yay, Teriwitt. 4 pound party time!

abasket- You will have a PR for 4.3! That’s great!
Way to go, Teriwtt! Nice surprise for you!

That’s cause for celebration Teri! Woohoo!!!

We only WISH we could look this cute doing our floor exercises!!!

<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;

To the basement. Among other things: goblet squats, 3-pt rows, DB step ups, DB bench press, box jumps, ValSlide painful pushaways, and stability ball plank. Good solid workout.

Sure is cold down there, though.

Can someone please tell me that standing burns calories, because I now have two groups I volunteer with a week, that involve standing for several hours, and I always come home exhausted (OK, so there’s a little moving around, squats, bending, etc.). This is when I wish I had a FitBit.

Might be offline for a while. Comcast is giving us the royal screw around - our internet sucks right now (it takes my computer about a minute+ to load each page I visit); their first available appt. is Thursday afternoon and I just can’t take the frustration much more. Between the CC transition and Comcast, I may never come back to the internet again (yea, right).

Teri, that kind of active standing is probably burning some serious calories. Congrats on losing 4 pounds and keeping up with exercise despite snow, cold, slow Internet, aches, etc!

Great job, Teri! 4 pounds–YAY!!!

Clean eating today and just under my food goal for the day. Lots of protein from Almond Butter and Tofu, and fresh organic veggies: Cauliflower and corn, and healthy carbs from Wasa hearty crackers. No preservatives, low sodium and healthy all around!

Tomorrow it’s back to exercising and routines. I’ve been hijacked by vacation, and lots going on with my kids. Both D’s are interviewing and waiting to hear back on jobs. D2 was in from Atlanta for the night and I’ve got my fingers crossed. I’m not sure why, but their job searches make me very hungry and lazy. Hmmm.

Idad- Thanks for the tips on sticking with the “clean eating.” I like the 5 pounds at a time approach. Recording food has been very helpful. Also, congrats on your weight loss and perseverance in recording food. Loved the story about you and your dad.

5 miles. Done! This head cold is really annoying.

The kitchen at work was a pig heaven - donuts, cake, chips… I have not touched a thing!

Ultimately, it’s about getting to a point where the satisfaction of the number on the scale, or fitting into skinny jeans, or just being more fit trumps the satisfaction of pigging out. Until then, it’s just finding the tricks that work for you.

BB: Wow. Resting donuts, cake, and chips. Now that’s a day’s work! Doesn’t it sometimes take your breath away at the stuff people eat?

Of course, I know people in the checkout line at the grocery must look at me and think, Huh? Lettuce, onions, peppers, carrots, apples, broccoli, asparagus… And, then… half n half? Lard? Huh?
