deb- there are plenty more races. Take care of yourself and your husband. I hope it all goes smoothly.

Dreaded Airdyne intervals. Dreaded 1 mile intervals. 92% of max heart rate. Not too bad; I didn’t push for any PRs…

Deb- Good luck to your husband. I am sorry about the race, but as people pointed out above, the training counts for a lot! Hopefully your next race will be in beautiful spring weather!

Walked 5.5 miles today with 46 active minutes. It was a beautiful day in Boston. I can’t seem to record and manage the food and the exercise. I am prioritizing exercising and watching what I am eating in general.

Ran a mile after work to try out some new shoes and get a touch of fresh air after a long day at work. SHORTS and SINGLET!!! This morning I wore tights and a light tech top and vest for 3 miles at 47 degrees. It’s getting bad again tomorrow, but at least I had a few nice days.

Two days of responsible eating. Not perfect (had some jam/English muffin out at lunch with my omelet) but doing much better. No junk. No alcohol.

Two new pair of shoes. Pair of red Nike Zoom Fly and orange Adidas Adizero Adios boost. Both lightweight and more of a racing flat which I think helps you run more efficiently. Don’t want to wear them and get them dirty just like my first pair of red ball jets!

Very cool, Ohiopublic! Wear plastic bags over them!

Seriously, they need to make something like those Ugg galoshes for cool shoes like that. :)

This hotel’s treadmills suck. But I was able to run 5 miles without too many issues. I forgot to pack my flashlight, so treadmill it was for me tonight. :(

Deb, best wishes to your hubby for relief. Sorry about your race but there will be lots more to chose from soon!

Idad, “monorail” describes exactly what has happened on the hill, and because I’m the sole hiker, its a pretty narrow monorail, but man is that mono part packed down! Last year we didn’t have nearly the snow and had a fast melt, so I’d never quite seen this kind of condition and didn’t understand just how impossible it would be to navigate.

I am generally in tact, but my shoulder is quite sore. Suspect it was just from the force of landing hard while holding the stick. It’s colder and snowing again today but I don’t trust the trail now so think I’m going to pass ;)

2.25 miles this morning. deb, sorry your husband is in so much pain!

abasket, what distance are you racing this weekend? I just got an email about a 5k nearby on Sunday. I have not been working on 5k speed, but I’m thinking I might do it just for fun. I can dress up like a leprechaun or something and win a prize!

This week: Monday–slow flow yoga and 3 mile walk/Tu: worked with trainer on TRX lunges, squats, rows, flys, and push ups. Followed by heavy weights (leg press, chess press, battle ropes). Finished 30 minutes on elliptical. Today–6 mile walk. (Getting ready for charity walk in June–not going to do all 3-days–opting to be part of a team and just do 1 day for 20 miles.)

Deb–Good luck to your H. Hope the surgery is successful.

Ohio–don’t know if you left for Boston yet–but if you’re in Cambridge you might want try Oleana. It’s my favorite restaurant. http://www.oleanarestaurant.com
Definitely run along the Charles; go to the North End (Mama Maria is a good restaurant); Legal has great seafood–couple of different locations. There’s in the Prudential Center and another in Copley Place.

Thanks everyone for your good thoughts. It means a lot.

Got in 2 miles this morning at 61 degrees before the bottom fell out of the weather. I got rained on a little bit in my 2nd mile (didn’t get up and out in the dark early enough for more miles). It is now 40 degrees with a horrible north wind. Scale showed 2.6 pounds less than Monday morning and a low for 2014. Still a few pounds to go, but at least heading the right way for a change!

Yay MOWC. The scale heading in the right direction is a good thing!

I bounced back up off the bottom. We’ll see if that is where I settle or not.

Blankmind, I’m suppose to do a 7k - 4.3 miles. Officially I did 4 or 5 5ks last year. This will be a challenge but I think I can do it - JIST looking to finish. Or start. Today we got a good 8+inches of snow so there is going to have to be some quick melting before I hit that pavement. I Just won’t do it if there is snow or ice.

I truly don’t have any aspirations to do anything much bigger - ever! But when I saw 7k I thought it was a challenge I could manage. And I’m no speedy. I would expect to run about 11minute miles.

New workout #2

Same warmup. Core was tough. The Sumo Squat is a deep squat with a DB at the chest. Stay in the squat position and extend the weight straight out and back. Ab killer. Then, push up position rowing a DB up with one arm, then the other arm. And, finally hands on stability ball, driving one knee forward to the ball and back. Another ab killer.

Power was the same old, same old. I’m working on really nailing the landing on these box jumps.

Strength set… Whew. Just six reps per set. but heavy. So the workout was quick (54 minutes), but I might be sore.

I bit off a bit much with the 60 lb single leg dead lift, but I’ll stick with it and see if I can get a little stronger with it. Push ups with my hands the Jungle Gym are brutal, but I’m a lot better at them now then I was the last time a year or two ago. DB front squats with two 30 lb DB at my shoulders were good. Six reps was about right. And, I cranked the 3-pt row up to 60 lbs. That’s the most I’ve ever used before, but I’m doing them much better now (no cheating). These are the version putting the weight down on the floor between reps.

3 miles on the dreadmill and 1 mile walking the dog. Wanted to do more outside but the sidewalks and roads have patches of ice that are terrible. Had to turn around and head to the gym. The soft snow has re-frozen and the ruts are hard to walk on. Guess I will have to stick to the gym until it gets warm again.

Good news MOWC! I am down 4.3 lbs and hoping to have a party soon!
I have cut out all wine except for weekends…darn.

Kudos to the losers! :)

I’m trying to convince Mr B to get out for a short walk. Just 3 miles RT - to the Haagen Dazs shop. ;)

Hey, they need to put some Haagen Dazs shops at some of the Appalachian Mountain Club huts I hike to! I mean, potabe water and composting toilets are nice and all, but a scoop of ice cream on a summer day would be ticket!

We are getting rain and sleet and rapidly melting snow. The White Mountains are getting 18 inches of snow tonight, so I’m trying to figure out how to get in three more winter hikes over the next 10 days or so. That’s enough snow that I’m probably going to have to wait a day or two for the parking lots to be plowed and let some young limberbacks break trail this weekend.

Good luck with your hikes, idad! The trek to the store was a partial success: we walked 3 miles, but the store solid not have my favorite kind of ice cream. Hmmm… Maybe I should count that as “complete success”. :)

3.5 miles, sometimes it feels so hard…
