Yesterday’s spring time hike in the White Mountains:

Well we are home. H’s surgery went well, he’s is less pain than he was before surgery. It was exhausting though and I haven’t done anything exercise wise. Was able to run on the treadmill today for 1.5 miles, first time in over a week.

Weather here stinks as usual. Yesterday it was wintry mix and rain. Today all of our schools were closed again due to icy roads. Spring get here soon! I need to get outside!

Good news on your H’s surgery, Deb922. Loved your video Idad–looks like a great hike.

Workout today with trainer: TRX, kettle bells, stairs, and core work. Finished up at the gym with 45 minutes on the elliptical.

So glad to hear from you Deb922 - what a week for you! I hope, hope, hope he is feeling MUCH better as he recovers!

Weather does continue to largely stink doesn’t it!! Net week hopefully looks better. They are talking about an inch or two tomorrow - I know it will melt fast but geez it’s almost April!!

Now that you are home you will get back in somewhat of a routine.

Deb, keep an eye on your hubby so he would not do anything too sternous to hurt himself during his recovery. Fingers crossed!

Abasket, snow - huh?! Has Putin annexed your place to Siberia?!

No snow, but yucky, steady rain here in my neck of the woods. I got a new pair of Hokas that I’m eager to take outside for a spin. Just like MOfWC, I will be on the road this weekend. Yuck.

Hoping for a smooth recovery for your H, Deb.
BB- I was wondering how you were liking Hokas!

MOfWC, thanks, I love them! I need to tweak the inserts a bit, and this pair is good to go!

Rainfest all weekend long… I’m so not looking forward to that. Work suddenly piled up, although folks who pile it up promise to root for me (ugh, folks, let me breathe a bit instead ).

5x Mile repeats yesterday . 8:30/8:00/7:30/7:00/6:30 last 400 at 5:00 pace . Legs are sore and creaky today. HIT twice this week. Probably from Squats with kettle bells and jumping squats. Had been doing wall squats with exercise ball. Guess I need more difficulty . Might just do a long walk maybe a swim. Most definitely a nap .

4 dark miles in 53 degree pouring rain before leaving Napa. Normally deal-breaker weather but I just couldn’t face the spa treadmill. I wasn’t cold, but got very, very wet. They need the rain. I need to detox from all the wine.

18 miles in pouring rain, 45 degree whether with some wind gusts! I was so wet that I only took a few sips of water and ate 1/4 of a gel. But did not hit the wall! I guess my winter fat stored enough fuel for this run. :)

Going to rainy SF tomorrow. Oh joy. I might need some wine.

Way to be tough. That sounds horrible!

Kudos to the weather warriors!!

Lol, autocorrect. I thought for a moment whether I wanted to run on the treadmill or to brave the weather. The outdoors won. Eons ago my friend run Boston in sub-40 temperatures - that is TOUGH. That was the year the whole thing almost got cancelled due to freezing rains for the first time in Boston’s history, but it warmed up a bit, so the race went on. Got a packet from the race organizers in the mail today, and I’m not happy that I got assigned to the 7 am departure bus to Hopkinton. It is friggin 4 am my time. LOL.

Having run in the rain in the past, I’m glad I’m now a cyclist and in today’s rain could easily rationalize staying inside due to the risk factor. Wet and cold is no fun! Kudos to MOWC and BunsenBurner for toughing it out. The worst rain I’ve ever ridden in was last June on day 3 of the Habitat for Humanity Ride I was on. 65 miles in the tropical storm that hit the middle east coast on that Friday. Had no choice; there was no other way to get to the next city on the agenda. At least it was warm!

Bunsen- Is this your first time running Boston? You will do great. It will be an exciting year. The weather is so unpredictable always. A few years ago it was in the 80’s. If I can do anything for you, let me know. I’m in the area!

Deb- So relieved your husband’s surgery is over. I hope he continues to feel better and that you can pause long enough to get back to your routines!!!

Thank you, peacefulmom! Yes, it is my first (and probably only due to the cost factor). I qualified once before, could not train for it due to a strange illness, could have “scratched” b/c of the hot weather and used my entry for the next year… Glad I did not do it, since I would have been right by the finish line when the bombings happened. >-)

"Having run in the rain in the past, I’m glad I’m now a cyclist and in today’s rain could easily rationalize staying inside due to the risk factor. "

Yup. Mr B used that line to excuse himself from biking today. However, when I got back home, I found out that he has done some major yardwork that involved the use of a chainsaw. Yikes.

If there is anything you need Bunsen let me know. I live on the route. Boston is very exciting, but the weather can be unpredictable and discouraging. My D’s friend trained the year the weather was in the 80’s and she barely finished. It will be an emotional BUT safe race this year. Emotional for last years bombing and also for the two fireman who died a few days ago. The race goes by the engine house. Again, let me know if you need anything, and good luck with your training!!!

Chainsaw in the thunder & lightning?
Our excursion to the dog park was even muddier than yesterday.
After I got dried off I managed to find a window of time when it wasn’t raining & walked to a fundraiser that was being held in a local bar. Bid on silent items & bought raffle tickets, but when I saw the main event didn’t even start till 11:30pm, I bailed and walked home again.
( only about 3miles round trip)
It’s hard to get my stamina up.
