Enjoy the sun, MOfWC! Safe travels tomorrow.

I’ll see if I can set my Garmin to kilometers. After running Boston, I realized that I do not like km markers - too any damn km in a marathon! Gimme 26 and a small change miles! ;)

Thanks, 1moremom!

Speaking of amazing runners… Here is an inspirational and truly unique guy:

<a href=“Ed Whitlock Runs 3:41 Marathon at Age 82 | Runner's World”>Ed Whitlock Runs 3:41 Marathon at Age 82 | Runner's World;

The kick is that he trains by running around… a local cemetery. LOL.

Just bought the cannondale synapse. Waiting for the paperwork and then final adjustments. Taking it on the bike path in about an hour!

Wow, congrats. Be safe! Just out of curiosity, how much was that beauty?

Awesome! You’ll be ridin’ in style, now!

My splurge this weekend was a 40% off coupon at Sierra Trading Post. Got of couple of “fancy dress shirts” for dinners in Bar Harbor next month. Well, not really fancy. Ex Officio Jeff Probst-style long sleeve travel shirts, with the roll up sleeves and all. Fancier than a tech t shirt and suitable for restaurants in Bar Harbor or the White Mountains. These are the crazy expensive factory treated Insect Shield versions that are (gag!) $100 each.

With the discount coupon, $41 bucks at STP:

Limited color choice (like none), so I got a green check and a solid green. They had a white, which looks really nice, but makes no sense at all for a shirt like this. It’s like white tech t-shirts. They never stay white for long without bleach and the washing instructions all say no bleach for these fabrics…

Bag is packed. Food is stowed away. My gear is all set. Time to trek through the Andes. Wish me luck! :-SS :))

Congratulations ohiopublic. You will enjoy it immensely. If you have any questions about care and maintenance, feel free to ask. For what it’s worth, regular chain cleaning and lubing is the key to maximizing the mileage you will get out of your chain and rear cassette. The best high end chain lube out there, IMO, is Dumonde Tech Lite, available mail order from Performance Bikes if not available locally. Once a year, have your headset, bottom bracket and hubs re-greased. These simple things will add thousands of miles of longevity to your running components.

MNKat was right.2-3 mph faster over the same course . $1899. Easier on my back too. I have spondylothesis so it was probably good I got the endurance model.

Heh, heh. While you guys played with your fancy carbon fiber toys, I went ol’ skool. A ride on the dreaded Airdyne. Dreaded 1/4 mile intervals to be exact. Tried to push a little harder than the other day. Saw heart rates of 91% on the last four intervals. Not too bad on 37 second intervals. Full heart rate recovery to 120 bpm (70% of my max) in between). I’d have to go with shorter rest to rest jack my heart rate.

Bunsen- Ed Whitlock is amazing.
Ohio- congrats on the bike. Be safe!
iDad- Good score on the shirts! I was in Bar Harbor in 2008 on business. I loved it. It was cool and rainy (August) but I did run in Acadia. You will have some great hikes.

This is one hike in Acadia I will NOT be doing:

I’m going to the top of that mountain one day, but I’m taking the geezer trail:

idad, I think they really need you in the “Portion Control” thread!

Me? I don’t have any portion control. The only portion size I know is HUMONGOUS… That’s why I have to stick to healthy food, because I eat a LOT of it…

And that’s why they need you in that thread… Just take a peek.

Yes, the portion control thread is interesting. I think that often people don’t understand that the reason some of us exercise, watch portion control, nutritional content, etc. is because we LOVE TO EAT!!! Because we love it, we have to be smarter about it. ;)

I’m scared of the portion control thread. I know it would make everyone mad that I eat that much. Lol! I eat pretty much everything, just try to eat in moderation and get some exercise everyday. I hate to admit it but I had a hamburger and pizza this weekend.

Lightly battered fish tacos and Cheesecake Factory Linda’s chocolate cake AND a few McDonald’s french fries for me Deb922. But I only ate the filling of the fish tacos (no shells) and split the cake between 3 of us AND only had a few of the fries - but enjoyed every bite of all it and did get my exercise in!!!

My cross training yesterday: digging up two huge garden beds to plant peas etc. and weeding “the jungle”- the portion of the backyard that we left in its natural state. Unfortunately, there always seem to be some weeds that like to spread out of there to the rest of the yard, so I perform “PM” of that part once in a while.

Afraid to post over at the “portion control” thread! Kinder and gentler over here. I know it can be tough listening to weight loss and excercise suggestions.

It will ALWAYS (for me ) be a battle to resist old eating habits—snacking, portions, fast foods, high calorie restaurant foods, eating till I’m full, stress eating, etc. I remember when I first started with myfitnesspal plugging in the numbers after my “healthy Olive Garden” meal. 2 plates of salad, 5 breadsticks (free refills why not), chicken Alfredo, dessert and 2-3 cokes. 3300 CALORIES. The breadsticks alone were 700 calories.

Yeah. Those “healthy meals” add up quick! Learning to skip the breadsticks or the bread basket in restaurants is such an easy step. I usually tell them to please just not put it on the table…

One of the arguments against low carb diets is that they work just because cutting carbs is an easy way to reduce calorie consumption. I’m thinking… is that supposed to be a bad thing? :)
