idad – yes, D did an IHP semester, spring 2009. In fact, you and I exchanged some messages about the program, since your D had done it, too. (And, as I recall, there wasn’t anyone else on CC at the time who knew anything about IHP)

I’ve read that about Botox! I guess I would have a wrinkle-free butt??? I think I’ll stick with the dry needling for now.

I don’t know if anyone has heard of a Sacro-Wedgy (Sacro-Wedgie??). Several of my friends who have had back issues and hip issues swear by it. You lie on it. Amazon sells them. One has arrived at my house today. Maybe it will open up whatever is pinching.

Oh, now I remember. Must be the early-stage Alzheimer’s… The other day, i forgot to bring the groceries in from the car. Went to make dinner and said, "now I KNOW I bought carrots…

No comment about wrinkly butts.

I’ve seen people lie on tennis balls to try to get the muscle to release.

A gray overcast hiking video:

[Morgan Percival Loop](<a href=“Morgan Percival Loop - YouTube”>Morgan Percival Loop - YouTube)

Yeah- I used to carry tennis balls around when I had injuries that wouldn’t let me sit in comfort. This one is OK sitting. I think the Sacro Wedgy is going to be good. It doesn’t feel like much, but I tried it out and when I got up I felt better. I tried a few steps on the treadmill (in my sandals) but no go. Wishful thinking.

So sorry, MoWC. This has to be incredibly frustrating. Hope the wedgy is good. Um, the wedgy pillow…

Nice video, idad. I can’t get over the rocks (contrasted by our sand, sand, sand). How does one make a video collage? Can this be done with Powerpoint and easily uploaded?

Sorry–MOWC. I hope some type of therapy or gizmo will work out for you and that you can get back to running. Your streak is an amazing accomplishment.

My workout today: weights and TRX with trainer plus 45 minutes on the elliptical and 30 minutes on a treadmill. Liked the hike at Squam Idad.

They don’t call New Hampshire the Granite State for nuttin’.
The rocks were a real shock to me when I started hiking in the mountains. I was used to walking on dirt paths, maybe with a few roots here and there. This is a completely different challenge. I almost never “just walk” on my hikes. The youngsters are agile enough for it, I suppose… In most cases, the trail is actually on the jumbled rocks. Makes for slow going, but awesome exercise. It’s interesting that I’m in much better shape than I was a couple of years ago, but the hikes aren’t any faster. The difference is that I’m not gobsmacked at the end. The pace is dictated mostly by the terrain. Trying to hike faster on the rocks is a recipe for sprained ankles.

The simplest way to create a video montage is to get a YouTube account. Select UPLOAD and then SLIDE SHOW. It’ll prompt you to upload a batch of still photos and create a slide show with limited customization – you can set the duration of each slide. It does the pan & zoom stuff automatically.

In Windows, there’s also a free program (Windows Movie Maker) that will create slide slows with pre-built templates. You can set the start and end points for videos, etc. I’m playing around with an Adobe program that is less automatic, but more capable. For example, you can set where a photo zooms into. It’s a bit of a pain, but I’m slowly figuring it out.

We all missed the boat in not inventing the Sacro Wedgy. I bet it costs $1 to make and sells in the $30s. The women’s model is…PINK. It feels really good to lie on it. Seems to help.

MOWC:

You won’t lose your fitness in a week. You’ve got so much fitness in the bank, it would probably take months and I know it isn’t going to take that long for your impingement to clear up!

I don’t know. I hope not. My injuries aren’t always quick to heal. Average 9 months to a year,

I bet you will be fine even if you take a month off. Glad that the pillow thingy works - and it is pink!
:)

I’m also glad you found the pillow thing, MOMWC, because I know how critical a bit of relief is…I just looked it up and don’t know how I missed its existence back when I had my facet lockup in 2001!

I do know that sleeping with a knee pillow also helps in my case, but that’s likely because in my situation, the tiny joint locks first, then the muscles spasm, then the nerves become engaged. So its a bit different in terms of process i think, though the pain would radiate through by butt and all the way down to my ankle (sciatica). Acupuncture, TENS, hot tub, Tuina massage and naprosyne plus naproxen is what used to keep me from jumping off a cliff.

I hope the dry needling nails it.

Idad, nice video. I noticed yesterday on the hill that I do get to the top these days without working up a sweat…which is a sign I should consider kicking it up a notch and trying rocks
however, no mountain ranges in m back yard, I’m afraid :)

Thanks for the pointers on creating the videos, idad. I once tried the Windows Movie Maker, but I seem to remember that the beautiful movie I made was so large that it would have taken forever to upload. I will fool around with the youtube program. Wait for it :)

I’m feeling a tad off kilter today due to lack of sleep. H’s late flight home was delayed, then canceled, rebooked, canceled, rerouted, etc. but finally he has landed this morning after a night of sending me texts and sleeping in the gate area of O’hare. There must have been some nasty storms in the midwest last night.

I hope you rested better last nigh, MoWC.

Yes, nasty midwest storms last night! The circles under my eyes and my drooping head on my desk are proof!

Love the video, iDad. I just got prescribed a bunch of core and hip exercises (clamshells etc). I feel like I need some iDad training sessions! Neat thing is that the PT videos me doing the exercises with his instruction and sends them to me. No dry needling today, but he wants me to go to the orthopedist to get a steroid pack prescription. That is happening tomorrow am. I’m telling myself, “The ortho (a new one for me) is not going to decide an injection would work better…” PT said I can do anything I can tolerate. Obviously, that isn’t running, but maybe I can try out the exercise bike (which I hate) at the gym.

plantmom:

Arghh. Sleeping in the gate area at an airport. I don’t wish that on anyone. The first time I flew after quitting smoking (Airports are a complete set of nicotine junkie triggers), I ended up with a cancelled connection at Dulles and had to spend the night there (they jerked us around with five hours of 30 minute delays until until boarding us at 1 am before cancelling the flight when the pilots timed out, so there was no point in bothering with a hotel by that point). It was a real test of my freedom from nicotine addiction.

I did see the funniest thing I’ve ever seen in an airport. A lady was so irate with the ticket agents at the gate that she had her little leashed dog hike its leg and do its business right on the ticket counter at the gate!
For everyone who has flown a lot, who hasn’t felt like that pup!

kmcmom:

Yay. You just need to walk faster!
It’s fantastic when you can actually see the fitness improvement like that!

MOWC:

Just being able to video myself doing exercises has been a big help. I’ll video, see what I need to improve, work on it, and video again a week or two later. I’ve found, with stuff like clamshells, that it works best to focus on doing slow, controlled reps and really trying to maximize each rep, rather than just counting them off. I’ve cut way back on the number reps of that kind of stuff (usually just six per side), but I really try to do them perfectly. Here’s my little 10 minute warmup.

<a href=“- YouTube”>- YouTube;

I’ve consciously tried to make some improvements after seeing this.

Glad to hear that there were no needles. My usual tactic of dealing with docs as it would apply to your case: tell the Ortho that you would try the pack first, and if it does not work, then you will consider other options. I found that I’m firm enough about a reasonable option, they back off (especially after learning that I majored in org chem that seems to be evoke the horror MCAT memories in them
).

Speaking of Ortho docs, yesterday I got a letter from the wonderful UW sports medicine doc that she will be retiring from practice after 30 years and taking the position of med school admissions dean. I’m sad - she is an amazingly caring and knowledgeable doctor. My primary doc also retired this year… So far, I’m not impressed with the youngsters my clinic hired - they seem to be very robot-like in dealing wih the patients. I think if something comes up, I will go see my gyn nurse practitioner who is amazingly sharp and has excellent people skills.

The American Heart Association would not approve. I have a new snack! Grocery store must not have been moving much at $12.99 a pound, so they marked a bunch of wedges of this glorious stuff on clearance at $4.99 a pound:

Cambozola

Triple Cream soft camembert with gorgonzola blue cheese streaks. Yeow. Talk about a good snack. Alas, one ounce 12 at the AHA limit of 12 grams of saturated fat for the day. I guess that means they would wag their finger at my grilled Bobby Flay flank steak dinner! :)

One of my big adjustments has been learning how to snack on some cheese without the Stoned Wheat Thins. This stuff is so good that it’s fine right off the end of a knife!

I’m scheduled for my annual NMR cholesterol test in another month. Oh my…
