Great videos Idad! Acadia is beautiful and it looks like the hiking was great.

MOWC–the kids with the iPads on the treadmill don’t seem to be moving very fast–they never run. Seems to me that they aren’t getting much of a workout, but they are there every Tu/Th. The father does the same–except he isn’t playing games–he’s reading stuff.

Went to a hot yoga class at 7 am–surprisingly the class was packed. Going to work in the garden for the rest of the day.

kmcmom:

The music for the first video was [the North Mississippi Allstars](North Mississippi Allstars - Wikipedia) from Hernando, Mississippi. Seemed like a great choice, since I was buffeted by the mean ol’ wind most of that day.

I think clouds, wind, and rain is the default weather pattern for Acadia. I was really, really lucky that my worst day was just cloudy and windy. Wait 'til you see the weather I had for the second day of hiking!

Music for the second video the Cowboy Junkies version of the Rolling Stones’ song Moonlight Mile.

Off topic- but since we care about fashion here, too… My Bar Harbor story- in 2008 my company’s board meeting was held there (one meeting a year was off-site and at a location where the board could tour a facility- in this case Houlton, Maine) and we all went there on the corporate jets. Very sweet, to say the least. The women (a few execs and 1 director) agonized over the wardrobe, since it WAS a business casual board meeting but we were in a resort town. We all brought cute sandals and resorty skirts/slacks/tops. Well- it never got over 62 and rained the whole time. We all bought sweatshirts and sat in the board meetings wearing Mangy Moose sweatshirts and socks with the new clogs we bought to keep our feet warm.

And then, deep down, you were all comfortable like you truly wanted to be, right??!!!

An east coast trip traveling from Boston to Maine is on my bucket list- one of these days…

Great story MOWC!

I forgot to mention in my earlier post – it’s interesting to me to when people say/write that a trip to the LL Bean flagship store is on their bucket list. Having gone to school in Maine, returning to said school every 5 years for reunions, having relatives in Maine, vacationing in Maine, etc. etc means stopping there is a fairly regular event. One summer I worked as a waitress at a resort in Boothbay Harbor – a bunch of us went to LL Bean at 1:00 AM or so since it was (and still is) open 24 hours. It’s still a fun place to go, although now I shop at more reasonable hours …

20 mile bike ride. Still having leg problems. Finally broke down and ordered new shoes. Hard to believe that they are worn out but I did buy them 2/01 and they have been the only shoes I’ve really run in.

It doesn’t matter what you pack for a trip, I always wear the same 3 things and have bought sweatshirts on many trips “up north”. The only reason I haven’t lately is that I pack everything under the sun. It can be in the 90’s one day and 50’s the next.

I’m another person who doesn’t want to travel in the summer. First of all, people come here to vacation and even though we complain about the crowds, we wouldn’t dream of going anywhere :). Also we get 16 (hopefully!)weeks of perfect weather a year, no way am I going to miss a day of it.

Great pictures Idad. Sounds like an amazing trip.

It was about a 5 hour drive to Bar Harbor for me. Freeport is about halfway, so the LLBEAN (and other outlets) is the perfect place to stop and stretch my legs. Must be old age setting in, but I’m like the rusted tin-man after sitting in the car for a couple of hours. I also hit up the Patagonia outlet, but nothing cried out to me (thank goodness). I was a bad, bad boy and had a sub sandwich from Freeport for lunch in the car coming and going. First sub I’ve had in two years.

All the tech clothing made camping much more pleasurable (and lows only down around 50 helped). I wore the world’s most expensive PJs – Patagonia Capilene 4 hoody and pants. Stuff us amazing. I’ve worn it as the top layer snowshoeing in the teens and it was perfect for sleeping and making breakfast camping in the 50s. I packed up camp in intermittent spitting showers. Having a light rain hoody and pants to throw on made that chore a lot more pleasant, as did having a tarp over the picnic table as a base of dry operations (packing).

The problem with the Maine coast is that it is impossible on summer weekends. The coast roads simply are incapable of handling the traffic. You can spend hours stuck at some podunk town’s only stop light, traffic backed up for miles. I was pleasantly surprised that Bar Harbor wasn’t insanely crowded mid week. No problem finding parking. Walked right in a waterfront restaurant at 6:30 pm. I guess it doesn’t get crazy until New England schools let out at the end of next week.

I’ve gotta bite the bullet and sling some weights around in the basement this afternoon.

Fun trip to the running store this morning. Great guy that runs it - talked about my running plans and tried on quite a few shoes. Ended up with a pair of Asics - which I’d never liked before - but these felt great. GT-2000. Then went over to the bike shop and looked at bikes (duh) with H - his thought was that while he can’t run with me, he could bike while I ran. Then we went to Costco to replenish the approved foods and took the dogs to the park. All in all, a fun day…although Bar Harbor sounds like a lot more fun!

Sabaray, the H bikes while the W runs works great for us. Mr B can’t run due to his bad knee, and I can’t stand more than 20 min on a bike seat due to former tailbone injury no matter how much padding I tried. It is a win strategy for us!

Thanks for all the b-day wishes!

Did you go through Wiscasset? Should’ve stopped at Red’s for a lobster roll. :)

LLBean’s flagship store is a pretty neat place, although I think their stuff is way overpriced. The outlet store often has some good bargains though, and I like the North Face and Timberland stores.

I was in South Bristol, ME a few weeks ago, which is the next inlet up from Boothbay Harbor, at my friends’ ocean-front house. The scenery is spectacular, and the tide is ridiculous - something like 10-12 feet.

I have fond memories of an LLBean outlet store in the Chicago area we used to go to a couple times a year. Still have some of the stuff we bought from there years ago.

Speaking of the Chicago area, I haven’t seen Pizzagirl in awhile! Are you lurking?!!

A trip to the running store for shoes- how fun!!! Seems that most of the stores really do a great job of making it a good experience. It’s a treat to go !

It varies. On hiking gear/clothing, their retail prices seem competitive with the street/sale prices of name-brand stuff, REI, etc It’s all over-priced, but LLBEAN doesn’t seem any more so than the others. They have some advantages: best warranty/return policy anywhere. And, a lot of their stuff tends to be cut/sized more for the… ummm… middle-aged consumer, with women’s plus sizing, men’s relaxed fits, etc. A lot of the outdoor companies cut their stuff for skinny trail runner kids. Some of their stuff is a real bargain, like their European made leather hiking boots.

Pizzagirl had a business trip to India. She is doing fine. I’m sure she’ll reappear once her schedule normalizes.

We went to REI after lunch today for H to get a few things. It was really crowded- some sort of sale going on. I got some of my Picky Bars (the sports/snack bars I like). I like the taste, the formula (pre run and snacks) and the fact that it is Lauren Fleshman’s (pro runner) and Jesse Thomas’s (pro triathlete who I met at Kona and saw race at Poconos in 2012) company. He gave me a free bar at Kona and took a picture with me. He’s very, very cute.

Basement for me. Punched the clock, slinging some weights around. I needed to do the warm up routine in the worst way. Missing that for a few days and all my joints start getting rusty!

Guess I need to excercise my mind too. Thought I had a track meet today . Find out it was YESTERDAY. So I punished myself with an up and down ladder of 100/200/400/800/1600/800/600/400/200/100 with mile warmup/warmdown. I’m toast tonight laying on the couch watching FIFA . I really think soccer at this level is the ultimate athletic endeavor. Sprinting, endurance, agility, eye/foot coordination, etc.

Don’t forget acting. ;)

LOL, MOfWC. Reminds me of our visit to the Volcanoes National Park in HI. It is HI, who needs a jacket! I packed one just in case, Mr B did not, so he exited the park in a nice fleece hoody from the gift shop. Since then, the story repeated itself many times over. That’s the reason Mr B owns more pieces of destination logo wear than I do. :)

Weights for me tonight. My nose is still solidly plugged. So tired of this!!!

Apparently, cherries are a “superfood”, they have this and they have that! So I had a bowl of cherries instead of dinner tonight. :)

I saved the best for last. The second day of Acadia hiking. Started at the ocean, climbed Gorham Mountain, continued on to the summit of Champlain Mountain, and back to the ocean. This is the one with scenic views. And, a decidedly nautical theme for the music… Be sure to click full screen/high rez for this one.

[Ocean Walk, Gorham Mountain, and Champlain Mountain](<a href=“Gorham / Champlain Mountains - YouTube”>Gorham / Champlain Mountains - YouTube)

I’m still a little pink sunburned from this hike. I’m not used to Vitamin D…

Happy Father’s Day to all our dads! Beautiful day here. 5 hilly miles.

Wow, iDad. That really was the best. Besides it being just stunning and especially with the views of the water, you do an incredible job on the videos! You could turn that into some sort of career (not that you need another one). I’m glad you got to do this trip and I’m sure you often thought back a few years to when you couldn’t make it to the mailbox without getting exhausted.
