ohio, bummer about missing your track meet! idad, I love your videos. Maine looks beautiful. The hiking trails around here look like a desert in comparison.

6 miles today. 2 mile warm up run, then some intervals where I focus on my form, and then 2 more miles.

I’ve come a long way since getting winded walking to the mailbox. My peak heart rate hiking in Acadia was 80% of my max. And, that was coming downhill. I’m not sure which time:

a) When I had to turn around and lower myself down a 5 foot rock ledge (always harder going down than up!)

b) When I came across a good size snake sunning across the path.

Our “morning” is off to a veeeerrryyy slow start. Thought about hitting the Beer Trail, but the weather looks like it is about to pour hard any minute, so we are sticking around the house. Going to exercise some yardworking muscles today.

Fit kid is gone for the rest of the summer–I’ll miss my gym buddy. Friday was a busy leg day; I did seven miles of running (3) and walking (4). Yesterday I took it easy and walked about 3 with H. I’m sure my heart rate was way higher than normal because it was so hot and humid. Today H and I visited the gym. I ran 2.5 on the treadmill, followed by a core/strength workout and an outside stroll with H. We had a beautiful dinner at a French restaurant last night which included a fluffy, tangy cheese souffle (H said it tasted like the best omelette he’d ever had) and crepes suzette. I will think about working out a little harder this week to “pay off” that dinner, even if the only benefit is mental :)

Now, to watch idad’s latest video and dream about cool weather and rocks.

Gardening muscles have been exercised. grilled the steaks, fed Mr B and went downtown. The show was wonderful! I can say that my dress would work great for doing clamshells - no rubber bands needed! And a floor length one by this designer would make a fantastic outfit for doing monster walks!

Belated happy Father’s Day to the dads.
Beautiful video, idad.

My deck-scrubbing muscles got a work out yesterday, but I’m pretty pleased with the results. First time since we bought this foreclosure that I’d attempted to clean the deck, which we thought was past recovery and was on the list for replacement once we’d finished the studio (which we’d finished this year.) But the lye-bleach and deck brush approach produced such wonderful results (Olympic deck cleaner, if anyone wants to know) that I’m good with the decking now until there’s a structural rationale to replace. Who kne there was nice pressure-treated wood under there? Wow!

The zombie mosquito population is back. Reinforcements in the form of the 'skeeter guy are due in today. I’m getting pretty used to wearing a Tilley hat, face net, and permethrin-treated light work shirt any time I’m doing chores. The zombies are most interested in you when you’re working up a sweat, it seems which meant they literally swarmed the sweatlodge we had on Saturday.

CBB- that’s great! I think we should have a forum rule where we aren’t allowed to ever say or think that what we do isn’t “that much”. Everything counts and we are all progressing (well, except for me…).

I like that forum rule, MOWC! All in favor…no, I don’t think we really need to vote. Motion carries.

H and I had our first visits with the new doc today (separately). I really like him. H got his marching orders and was basically told, if you’re looking for a doctor who’s going to prescribe a bunch of drugs, I’m not that guy. But, his BMI was over 40%. Blood pressure was 132/82, not as terrible as I thought it was going to be. He was approved for the weight loss program. Tons of bloodwork ordered.

I had my appointment later in the day. Our new doc practices integrative medicine - focuses on preventing disease rather than treating symptoms using conventional and complementary therapies. He also studied nutrition for two years, so lots of discussion about good fats, carbs, flour, you name it. So, some chronic issues I have been struggling with are irritable bowel and migraine. I am going to have a trial period of eliminating dairy to see if that has a positive impact on my unpleasant bowel problem (sorry, probably too much information). I am also having a ton of blood work and then a follow up appointment in a month.

Checking in from Martha’s Vineyard … Lots of exercise so far! Ran yesterday (3 miles in too hot weather … Will run earlier tomorrow), walked the dog in a loop to the beach and back (he likes it so that will be daily), core workout with H that woke up some abs, and of course lots of family games (Baggo anyone?). We also went on Chappaquiddick and my S caught a bluefish. No, I didn’t see any Kennedy’s.

I have already had lobster 3 times (lobster quesadilla, lobster roll, lobster bisque) and H had a Father’s Day lobster. This is my kind of vacation … Good food and lots of exercise.

Now if I could just hit the lottery to get one of those nice places I saw in the real estate catalog.

Did a yoga class on Saturday, walked 4 miles on Sunday, and will go to a spinning class tonight.

Loved your last Acadia hike video, Idad. That was a great trip to Maine.

Did you eat the bluefish, Snowflake? My H fishes in the Atlantic in July, August, and September–I’ve become an expert at cooking bluefish. I grill it, smoke it, and also make pate with it.

Sabaray, this new doctor sounds like a keeper. How wonderful to have your doctor ask such detailed dietary questions. I hope you find some relief for the IBS and your H accepts the help of the doc.

I took a quick trip to the gym for about 10 minutes of treadmill warmup, a countdown metabolic workout from Rachel Cosgrove, and stretching. Although it seemed like a fast workout, it was a good one.

I started seeing a doctor practicing integrative medicine about 7 or 8 years ago. He was able to clean up several health issues of mine and my daughter’s, just with nutrition and targeted supplements. He was a good five years ahead of the curve on vitamin D. He later opened his own practice with about 10 complementary therapies under one roof.

I convinced my sister to see one, and she had some long-standing digestive issues resolved with diet changes. She likens it to “magic pixie dust”, but this stuff works.

All primary care should be practiced like this IMO.

To the basement. Had to just punch the clock today. I punched it, which is a good thing, but not my most energetic workout. The ValSlide Alligator Crawls and the DB snatches were good, so that’s something… :)
