In my work email this morning- in case we think it helps to read labels…

Whole Foods Mislabels Greek Yogurt Sugar Content, Suit Says

Whole Foods Market Inc. was hit Friday with a putative class action in Massachusetts federal court, accusing the grocery chain of falsely marketing its 365 Everyday Value Plain Greek Yogurt product as containing only 2 grams of sugar per serving when it actually contains six times the labeled amount.

Six times… 12 g of sugar. I can see them claiming that it was a typo! Someone omitted “1”. Lol.

There is a huge difference between 2 grams of sugar and 12 grams of sugar. I would not be surprised if a lot of Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and other “healthy” positioned brands have similar “oversights”.

It must have worked. I am miraculously cured this morning. Like Oral Roberts laid hands on me. Or handed me a serpeant or something. Actually, they say that DOMS lasts 48 to 72 hours and it will be 72 hours tonight. I’m even giving consideration to a workout.

People who maintain trails don’t get enough credit. I sometimes marvel at the amount of work that’s been put into these trails, especially the ones with elaborate stonework and steps.

Hot yoga today. One of the few times that I wasn’t struggling in the last month. Doing a 3 mile walk later today–need to go get my car from the tire place and declined a ride so that I’d have to walk.

Thank you so much for the great suggestions Idad. I copied and emailed them to my D so she could decide.

Trail maintenance sounds really tough–kudos to KMC and Mathmom.

Well, TRX is definitely a workout but I had a great time. It’s a group of 5 working with our instructor (who is ACE and TRX Certified, whatever that means) and I can tell I got a workout, but thankfully can still walk. I liked it a lot more than lifting by myself. There are three of us who are relatively fit and two who are not, but everyone is pleasant and good spirited. 4 mile run after class.

For all the women who do trail maintenance - please don’t let H know. I generally restrict my activities to “light gardening”.

Lol, sabaray. Mr B does not let me get off the hook with weed pulling. Yesterday, he wanted us to pour the concrete slab, but I refused to participate in cement insanity at 95 degrees! Finally, after listening to my reasoning, he decided that it was not a good idea. Anyone who has ever handled 80-lb sacks of concrete mix will find the Progressive insurance ad (with Flo carrying 3 sacks of Quickrete) really funny!

Back to the basement. Not gonna lie. Hard workout, but I had to get moving and walking, running, or Airdyne were out of the question for my quads. I needed the warm up routine bad! Felt good to stretch out.

I did the core exercises. I did the front squats. Did the single leg deadlifts. Did the TRX pushups and the 3 pt rows. The only concession I made was skipping the plyo box jumps. A little to much like stepping up and down rock steps!

Sabaray, ACE is the American Council on Exercise, one of the more established and reputable organizations that provides extensive science based training to persons seeking to become certified as a personal trainer or group fitness instructor. Having just spent 6 months completing the ACE Personal Trainer Certification, I can tell you from personal experience that it is a rigorous and demanding curriculum covering anatomy, physiology, kinesthiology, nutrition, applied behavioral psychology and learning theory, assessments, exercise programming and ethics/scope of practice. To get the ACE certification, a person must pass a 3 hour exam given by an independent testing organization. The TRX certification means that the instructor has successfully completed a 1 day (8 hour) training program given by TRX which provides the instructor with the knowledge and tools to safely and effectively use the TRX system in a group or individual setting. My daughter, in addition to being ACE and Mad Dogg (Spinning) certified, is TRX certified and the TRX certification was a very effective learning opportunity for her.

Thank you, MNK! The center we joined is affiliated with our health system so I was fairly confident the trainers who work there were appropriately credentialed. I like hearing more about what the credentialing entails, however - so thank you for that explanation. I looked up her bio on the website and I noticed that one of her interests was helping clients beat “sugar addiction”.

One of the senior partners at my firm was hospitalized over the weekend, so a lot of stress at the office today. Sadly a health crisis that could have been averted given proper lifestyle changes.

Abasket, I forgot you were from Ohio … My old stomping grounds in HS and college. I don’t envy you having to deal with a water ban.

Still sore from Saturday yoga, but I vow to do it more often. Regardless, I run a 5K tomorrow and am looking forward to it.

Idad, I’m glad you’re doing better but that hot tub voodoo boomeranged on me. I had been a little sore but not bad so I hiked the hill and did my aquajogging yesterday and by sundown I could hardly walk due to idiot knee. I guess I’d better sit this one out this morning and do the hot tub mojo for MYSELF
(And mathmom, who deserves the hot tub mojo too!)

Mathmom, just so you know, you are welcome to come hike my land anytime you like :)

Sabaray, sounds like you’ve found an awesome health center!
Snowflake, have a great race.

MomWC…good luck at the docs – is that today or tomorrow?

Did a TRX upper body workout last night. There are so many ways to vary the resistance and core engagement. Body angle, foot position, base of support. Some of my favorite include suspending my feet and hands when doing chest presses and rows, using a weighted vest for standing curls. One armed oblique curls destroy the obliques while concentrating the curl resistance on one arm at a time. The variations are almost limitless. There’s a TRX certification course in September held at the facility where my daughter does some of her personal training. Sounds very inviting.

Doc is tomorrow at 1:45. Went to 60 minute hot yoga class after work yesterday and ran 3.1 miles this morning. My heart rate is a little high- I’m going slow, but I need to get the conditioning back so I haven’t been taking walking breaks. Once I settle into a better level of conditioning, I will do the walking breaks in order to get the distance back up.

Good Morning! Have been crazy busy but now have more time to pop in since D2’s wedding has passed. Now the whole family is in training. D2 is running the Twin Cities Marathon in Oct and D1 will be running the 10 mile that same morning. H and I will traverse the Cities on our bikes so we can try to see both of them on their courses. Should be fun!

idad…love seeing your hikes! Just beautiful!
MOWC…glad you are running!

Hi to NM! Congrats on the wedding - hope it was all you wished for. :)

mathmom did the opposite of the hot tub treatment. She was dripping with sweat and doused herself in the freezing cold brook. I usually can’t bring myself to do the complete dunking, but I did on Saturday!

I am trying to figure out where to put my TRX in my soon to be extended basement. I just realized I can’t hang them from i-joists. I’d rather not put them on the wall. There will be an LVL between the old basement and the new one, and that may be my best bet if we can resolve the floor issues. (New basement floor is level, old one not so much!)

mathmom:

You could always brace across three or four I-joists with a 2 x 4 or 2 x 6 or even 2 x 12. Anchor the braces with a bunch of lag screws and attach the TRX to the brace. There’s got to be a way to beef up a section of i-joist to support a TRX by spreading the load across three or four of them.

kmc:

I’ll send you some of my healing mojo as I’m completely free from soreness today!

nminn:

Congrats on the wedding. Welcome back.

Spinning class today–new instructor. She didn’t have her music/timing down–she’d tell us that we were doing a 3 minute climb and the music ended at 2 minutes. She got it together about half way through the class. Despite the glitch, I got a good workout.

Hope everyone’s worked out his/her soreness! Hope you get the all clear to run, MOWC.

I don’t think I would be complaining about that! :)

I wish the Airdyne would short-interval me sometime…

i-dad, if I decide I really want the TRX in the new space, I’ll call the manufacturer and see what they recommend. I just felt stupid when I thought him, these things really aren’t designed to hang heavy objects from the are they? But I have to use engineered wood or I’ll get floors that shrink and will no longer line up with the existing ones.
