What I like about TRX is that it just seems like more fun than similar exercises without the straps. It’s also really easy to adjust the difficulty of an exercise by just changing you angle relative to the straps. Part of the reason I need to move it to the basement is my upstairs hall isn’t big enough for me to use the way I want to.

Thanks, everyone. Since I AM running, I really DO hope I get cleared to run! Did 5K this morning- getting a little faster. My new Garmin has a delightful (not) new feature where after you save the run the screen tells you if you have achieved new personal records. Like I needed something else to keep me from staying at an easy effort… So today it told me I had the fastest mile time so far and the fastest 5K. (remember- I have only used this watch in the 2 weeks since I started back) Our mornings are beautiful right now- in the 60s. Afternoons are in the 90s. Last night a hot air balloon landed (not planned) in my neighborhood! I was walking the dog and I thought “Boy- that seems awfully low to the ground!”
Gear note- Hoka Clifton might be THE great shoe of the decade. I still love my other Hokas, but the Clifton is quite a bit lighter and will be better for racing and faster paced running. It is a great shoe.
Also- I ordered some hot yoga shorts from Athleta that came last night. They are the tight kind, but have a little length in the leg so they don’t feel like track briefs or underwear. They are a pretty green color. Why I care about what I wear into hot yoga is beyond me, since everything is soaked and nasty by the end and you don’t even care what you look like after about 3 minutes since you are pretty sure you are going to die!

Good luck with your appt, MOWC. Fingers crossed.

Hi… I thought I would join in on this. A little over a year ago during track I developed a fracture in my foot but continued to run on it for my relay team that went to state and medaled. Running on an injury completely burnt me out, so my senior year I had a very subpar xc season and an incomplete track season. This summer as I head off to college I’ve been trying to get back on the bandwagon after not running regularly for a year… And it’s hard!

So far this summer I’ve lost 5 pounds and would like to lose 5 more. I went for a 15 minute run this morning (yes pretty pathetic) but I hope to work my way up to 60+ minute runs again in the coming months.

Hopefully this thread will help me keep to it!

Did Hot yoga today–it was one of the hardest classes I’ve taken. I signed up because the class was with one of my favorite instructors. She was substituting in a more advanced class than I usually take. I was able to keep up (which is a big break through for me)–near the end I had to stop and get into downward dog to rest, but it was OK. Afterwards, the instructor came over and told me I did a great job and that my modifications were good ones. This class had headstands (which I can’t do and don’t care to do) and lots of balancing on one leg poses (which I can do one side, but not the other side with my bad ankle). Anyway–I left feeling really energized.

MOWC–agree with you about the yoga clothes–the clothes end up a sweaty mess. I’m looking for the perfect lightweight top. I just bought two from Prana: http://www.prana.com/meadow-top.html?color=winter

I really enjoy TRX–much more so in a small group–share the pain.

Welcome 1prettykitty! Most of us have had our “pathetic” times as well!
The new rule here is no apologizing for “not doing enough” - if you are “doing” consider it a win!!!

I had a niece who continued to run on an injury - messed her up for a LONG time - don’t do that again!

Bromfield- I love that top! Do you have to wear a sports/yoga bra or is the shelf bra in it enough?
I wear this one by Lulu http://shop.lululemon.com/products/clothes-accessories/tanks-no-support/105-F-Singlet-Silver?cc=14666&skuId=3543764&catId=tanks-no-support but you need to wear a bra, so that’s 2 things to get soaked!

Sometimes I just wear a sports bra and shorts without the tank. Until this year I NEVER wore a tank to hot yoga, but it seems like most women do. A couple (young) ones wear just the briefs and skimpy yoga bra, but many wear capris and even tights with tank tops. I try to wear as little as possible, frankly!

Welcome, 1prettykitty! Hope your foot healed completely. Running through an injury is definitely not a good idea (been there, done that - especially when one feels that holding back would let the team down). I’m starting back up after a few months of almost no running - took a break after running a marathon in April. It is hard, but as many here have confirmed, it is very doable! Keep at it, and you will get there! :)

I’m bringing my running shoes with me in hopes that I will be able to run after work. Lol, good intentions make great pavers for that infamous road. :)

If anyone is looking at TRX for the home, Perform Better has the Jungle Gym XT on sale for $79.95 with free shipping:

Same stuff as the TRX Home Kit for $199.95. Suspension trainer. Door mounts. Carry bag, and an “over the tree” mount for taking it to the park.

I think the Jungle Gym is a better product. The two straps are usually mounted separately and can be positioned at shoulder width. This also makes it easier to do exercises that only use one strap. Length adjustment is incredibly simple. The biggest upgrade is the handles. Very solid hand grips (washable) and molded foot stirrups that are really easy to get into and out of.

At.less than half the price, it’s hard to justify the TRX brand (although they certainly deserve credit for promoting suspension trainers.

Thank you for the support! I definitely learned my lesson… Wearing a boot for 3 months was not fun!

I think I’d better stick to the gym for a while. I might find myself as the lead news story given my coordination (or lack thereof) at times. I like the camaraderie that goes along with working in a group, too.

Welcome, 1prettykitty! Glad you are on the mend and ready to run again.

iDad strikes again! I ordered the Jungle Gym. I hope I (or H) can figure out how to hook it up in the basement near my dreadmill. He’s an engineer, so it shouldn’t be a problem. We have beams, etc.

I’M CLEARED TO RUN!!! AND- he didn’t think it was a problem at all that I already started. He said to keep it slow and ramp up, but that I should be at full mileage by Sept 1!! Xray looked really good. He said the Forteo shots probably helped a lot. He said lots of athletes take Forteo for a couple of months to help heal fractures- golfers etc.

Awesome news! We’re going to remind you to keep it slow and ramp up!

^ Congrats!

He probably added few weeks to the time you weren’t supposed to run, knowing you wouldn’t be able to help your self. ;)

"I’M CLEARED TO RUN!!! "

BIG CONGRATS from 30,000 feet up in the air!!! (and yay to pharma for developing the drug
)

Yay, MOWC. Fantastic. That’s the second best news of the week. The first was when you skipped a day! :)

I’m so glad the bone has healed well and you are good to go!

Three cheers for MoWC!

Just a little walking today. Getting quotes for new AC, grrrr.

LOL iDad! I need to make myself keep doing hot yoga twice a week, too. I think it’s good for me.

MOWC: keep doing the hot yoga. It really does help with flexibility and balance–which I image helps with your running. After about a year–give or take–I’ve finally gotten to the point where I can actually do the poses (except for the really complicated ones like headstands) and I like going to class. I just bought the Prana tops yesterday. I’ll report back once I get them.

Congratulations, MOWC! You’ve overcome and conquered.

I am currently on a detox to get back into healthier eating. No carbs. Little to no sugar. No dairy. (You guys know how much I love milk…) I feel so limited on what I can eat. Yes, there are vegetables, but right now I’m just thinking about some Maple Nut Goodies. Just two more weeks and I will be first in line outside of Walgreens. :’)

Today, I’ve had a raging headache. Most likely from the detox. All I can do is lie down and take naps to pass the time. Just have to remind myself that it will pass given time…

The roasted vegetables were fun to experiment with last night, though. My brother was crazy about them! I’m determined to get the right mixture of spices to get them crunchy and flavorful.
