Trying this backpacking thing again tomorrow. Still deciding between two destinations, both with substantially less ambitious walks with a heavy backpack! :)

Nice morning hike today before the descent to madness began
The hummingbirds have also gotten used to my aquajogging, it seems, because there were several out to be seen. My day goes so much better when I get the hill and pool in first!

Well, I’ll do a final weigh-in before heading out the door in the morning, but I believe the backpack this time will weigh in at 32 pounds. That’s down from 49 pounds the first time.

I expect that to make a HUGE difference. Lots of little things, but the biggie is only carrying 1.5 liters of water, enough to drink while actually hiking. Everything else will be filtered from a stream or pond. At 2.2 pounds per liter, pumping is easier than carrying!

That is still a lot of weight to carry! Enjoy iDad!

This story choked me up this morning…
<a href=“Jogger Rescues 2 Children From Brookline Reservoir - CBS Boston”>http://boston.cbslocal.com/2014/08/18/jogger-rescues-2-babies-from-brookline-reservoir/

^Wow! Makes me proud to be a runner.

What a great story!

Love that, abasket.

Yesterday was a travel day, and since I’m not streaking I didn’t have to do anything stupid in terms of fitting in a run, so I didn’t do anything. (See, iDad- I can do it!
)

I was too tired from said travel day to get up early enough today to run. That meant I had to run after work in 90 degrees with humidity. This…after 49 degrees and very low (almost no) humidity in Colorado. It was brutal. I had to take a few breaks in the 4 miles and my HR was extremely high. I will have to re-adjust to this. I had shade, but it was still awful.

I didn’t seem to have gained any weight on the vacation, despite some extremely poor eating choices (some of which were not my choice). I didn’t lose any, but I’ll take the no gain.

Wow. I would drop like a dead fly in 90 degree weather. Great job!

Thanks, but it felt really bad. It’s tough enough when I’m used to it, but tonight after the cool weather and all the time off this summer was not pleasant at all. Everyone I saw looked terrible and VERY sweaty!

49 can be about perfect running temperature!

Whew almost 3 hours today. Strength/stretch /core and weights . Spent around 15 minutes on the foam roller. 30 minutes of elliptical 30 minutes swimming 30 minutes aqua running. Steam and sauna. Feel surprisingly relaxed and not tired. I’ve heard that pool work and running have a 2 to 1 ratio and elliptical is 2/3 a running workout so today’s workout would probably be equivalent to a 50 minute run.

According to my fitness pal cycling time appears to be equivalent to running time but I think the effort (and HR) is harder more intense.

Amazing, ohio - 3 hours!

My new Hokas came today. Perfectly purple and yellow, just as pictured. I’m taking them for a run tomorrow and will post a preliminary review. The model is called Huaka and has the speed lace system (which I’m not so wild about), but Hoka included a pair of regular laces.

I haven’t seen Huaka in person yet. It’s supposed to be firm and fast! (just like us!) :)

What does this mean? In terms of what? Just curious, since I swim laps and run.

Heading off to the pool soon, as a matter of fact.

Every time I want to whine I just have to read MOWC’s posts and realize I have no reason to whine or complain about anything but I just have to say I am tired.

H enrolled in a diet/workout challenge group and I did as well to help him stay on task and motivated. I also thought I would benefit from the workouts, which I have, because if it were up to me all I would do is run. You earn points by working out, completing nutritional and fitness challenges weekly, and completing a monthly challenge. Periodically you get weighed and get points based on percentage of weight loss (pounds lost as a percentage of your starting weight) and percentage of fat lost. When we started my BMI was normal but my body fat percentage was high. At our first weigh in I’d lost 4% body fat and 5.5% weight lost. I’ve been doing my TRX and running but then I’ve also been doing the weekly and monthly challenges and trying new things like the water class. Juggling everything to get a good effort on my running workouts has been a challenge and then some days I am doubling up to push H through the workouts he has. Physically I’m just really tired and the other group members have been a little snarky with me which is discouraging. I just want it to be over, which it will be in 4 weeks. Thank goodness.

I’m also just telling myself repeatedly that I have to trust my training plan. I get a little anxious when I see people posting that they did an 18 mile run as part of their training when the race isn’t until November. I keep telling myself that I am preparing in a way that’s good for me and my goal is just to finish. I need to keep telling myself that I want to do this and I can do this. When I finish, I’m getting a tattoo. And drinking beer. Maybe not in that order.

Love that description, MOfWC!
The shoes look cool, too. I hopped around the house in them last night, Mr B simply rolled his eyes.

Sabaray, I’m tired READING what you are doing! Of course, you are tired - sounds like you are in motion perpetually!

Why are the other members being snarky with you???

If your H is on the right track maybe you need to remove yourself from being responsible for his training too?

It sure seems that all you are doing is going to be an asset to your marathon training. But true you have to keep the running up as well to a degree. How much running are you doing? What’s your longest run at this point - you are still over 2 months out, right?

sabaray- People get way ahead of themselves in their training. Just stick with your plan. And- it is normal to feel tired. Do the beer before the tattoo.

I am struggling. I was clearly still dehydrated from last night when I went out to do 3 miles before work this morning. It was 75 and extremely high humidity. I had to start walking breaks at 2 1/2 miles, and still felt terrible. My weight was 2 pounds down from yesterday morning, which is clearly a sign of dehydration. We had a fairly mild summer until recently. Ugh.

Thanks, MOWC. Hearing the voice of experience really helps. I’m sticking with my schedule, abasket - running four times a week with three shorter runs during the week and a long run on Saturdays. Race is November 15, so I’m in good shape. I am running less now according to the plan than I was before I started “training” officially, so that might be part of my anxiety. I feel good during my runs and know I could run further, but I’m really trying to be disciplined and not do more than I should at this point, knowing the mileage will just keep building.

abasket, most of the comments have been that I don’t need to lose weight - and I don’t, but I need to lose fat. It’s a very competitive group. H is doing well, but he works a lot harder when I work out with him.
