TRX and 4.25 miles this am. Super foggy but is cooler - predicted high of 77. abasket, good work on getting out there!

Saturday went to our monthly challenge which was a water class - too easy. I was sorry I had skipped my usual Friday night class. Can you tell I have an exciting social life? On the plus side though, the woman who led the class is a trainer who works with triathletes and distance runners. We chatted after class and I think once this TRX class concludes I am going to start working with her instead of the small group I had originally planned on. She has more confidence in my abilities than I do but she thinks I can do better. I just need someone to keep kicking my butt.

I have to admit that this weekend I fell off the wagon and ate quite a bit of peanut butter pie ice cream. Saturday night we took mom to a Mexican restaraunt (her favorite). I am regretting it today as I don’t feel very well. My weight is continuing to drop. I need to eat more but I just don’t feel hungry. Thanks to all that offered advice on the magnesium supplements.

Getting ready to take advantage of a stretch of spectacular weather with a couple days of car camping and hiking. This is the glamping version. All the comforts of home. I’ve even got a movie loaded up on the Kindle…

Menu:

Grilled Salmon steak with fresh local corn on the cob
Grilled 16 ounce rib eye steak with spicy broccoli slaw
Grilled Thick cut pork chop with spicy broccoli slaw

Breakfasts:
Country ham and fried eggs

Snacks:
Apples and roasted almonds

Beverages:
Fresh brewed gourmet coffee, single malt scotch, and SuperStarch protein shakes…

Have you tried the scotch in your protein shake?;)

Went to the exercise equipment store yesterday and looked at some new equipment. Saw some very nice pieces from Inspire that have lifetime warranties in supervised commercial use. Of interest is either a cable cross-over functional trainer with a built in Smith bar that gets it’s resistance from the selectorized weight stacks to replace mu universal or a combination cable cross-over, smith bar and lifting cage that uses both selectorized weight stacks and free weights and would replace both my existing universal and existing lifting cage. The big shocker was flooring - $2500 for rubber tile flooring, installed, in a 575 sq. ft. space. Yikes!

Michael, you are bad for iDad!

I still want to sneak on an iDad hike just for the food and drink. You eat as well when you hike and camp as I do on my best day.

^ You can get the rubber tiles on-line for $2-3/square foot, it is very easy to install because you don’t need to glue it down.

For example (never used this site but they have nice pictures): <a href=“8mm Strong Rubber Tiles - Best Value Gym Floor Tile”>http://www.rubberflooringinc.com/interlocking-tile/8mm-strong-rubber-tile.html</a>

If you go for a roll product you can get even cheaper.

Yeah, I want to sign up for the iDad hike and dine! I like the idea of Scotch in the protein shake, too.

Notrichenough, I appreciate the tip. The price from the equipment store was $15/ 4 sq ft. Which would compare to 8-12/ 4sq ft online. It’s tough to judge the relative quality but the online prices are significantly better. The problem I have with installing it myself is the need to put existing machines on dollies to move things around as I do each side of the room. Gotta keep researching this cause there ain’t no way I’m going to spend a fortune on rubber flooring!

My exercise today was emptying out kitchen closets. Probably should have done even more purging than I did. I was at the local sports store so ds could buy running shoes. They were selling the interlocking tiles 24 sq ft for $39.99 - no shipping cost - so a pretty good price I guess.

And ruin good scotch? Those shakes aren’t that tasty, although the vanilla isn’t horrible.

Got all my prep done. One large zip loc freezer bag per meal. Easy cooking. Light the grill, dump the food out of the bag. And eat. I even remembered to pack the plastic plates this time. The only cleanup is one knife, one fork, and the grill tongs or spatula.

Grilling at the campsite is actually easier than eating out. The restaurants aren’t that great and, by the time I make it back from hiking and get a hot shower, I’m always running around like a chicken with my head cut off to get to the restaurant before closing time.

You should check the end-of-summer sale at Perform Better:

<a href=“Functional Training Equipment & Gym Equipment – Perform Better”>http://www.performbetter.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/TopCategories1_10151_10751_-1</a></p>

They sell top shelf gear, outfitting a lot of collegiate and NFL weight room. With free shipping, some things might even be affordable.

My most decadent camping indulgence is fresh brewed drip coffee. I grind beans for a 16 ounce thermos of coffee and fold it up in a Melitta filter. Prep enough filters with coffee for the days I’m camping and put them in a zip loc baggie. I have [a silicone collapsible Mellita style filter](http://gsioutdoors.com/products/pdp/collapsible_java_drip/coffee) that sits on top of my thermos. Half n’ half from the cooler. Gourmet coffee!

Thanks IDad, I’ll check it out.

the free shipping is huge on stuff like kettlebells, DBs, etc. They sell all the really fancy gym grade stuff. I went ghetto with my gray iron “prison yard” DBs and KBs from WalMart. They ship free to the nearest store. I can’t find anybody that touches their prices on plain KBs and DBs.

Perform Better is great for stuff like TRX, minibands, Airex pads (still the single best piece of fitness gear I own – the mat and the knee pad), and so forth and so on.

You sound so prepared iDad - have a great, safe time! And happy dining!

Ninety degrees and high humidity today - of course, now that the kids are back in school it’s acting like summer out there!!! Due to my schedule and the heat factor, opted for the treadmill again. Got up on that pony and did 3+ miles with intervals. And it’s done. :)

Great workout today with my trainer. I have issues with my right ankle–bad break many years ago/staph infection from surgery, etc. result is a very inflexible ankle–despite just one screw remaining. Trainer has had me working on the ankle to increase flexibility. We have also been working on balance. Today was a first for me–I was able to do jump-ups (not sure this is the right term) finished 10. I used the lower box (about 6-8"). I was really convinced that I couldn’t jump up to the top of the box, but she talked me through it. My H thinks it’s crazy that I use a trainer, but getting me to do that move–which I avoided all the time thinking I couldn’t do it, is the reason I stay with the trainer. It’s a small victory, but I’m really happy that I accomplished it (maybe I can even do the “big box” in time).

Signed up for 2 yoga classes tomorrow–Yin and Slow Flow. Doing Yin first and then going off to another studio to do the Slow Flow.

Enjoy the hiking and the camping Idad. Climbing in the White Mountains is really tough–after the hike with my H, my legs were sore for quite a few days. Scrambling over those rocks is not for the faint of heart.

That is terrific, Bromfield - has to give you a real sense of accomplishment.

Only exercise today was walking with the two dogs on multiple occasions. Quite the workout.

iDad’s camping dinners sound better than what I’m able to prepare with a full kitchen.

Good job, abasket and Bromfield. Sabaray- walking dogs IS a workout for sure!

1 1/2 miles before work. I have been SO tired in the mornings that I can’t get up to do the whole run. I went to the path after work (shaded mostly) and forced myself to do a REAL low HR run. Kept it at 135-136 which yielded an extremely slow pace but I didn’t have to walk to keep it down there. 3 1/2 more miles. I felt really good afterwards, which is one of the huge benefits of the low HR runs. It is a lot easier to do it on a flat path, though. Hills immediately mess up the HR. Ribs are doing pretty well, but I think I’ll wait a few more days before going back to yoga.

Camp set up. Spectacular weather. Fired up the grill for salmon and a wee nip of scotch. Yum.
