Diet/Exercise/Health/Wellness Support Thread

Today’s workout is cutting the grass in the back yard. I forgot to ask DS to do it when he was home this morning. :frowning: On the bright side, I get to have some leftover fruity sangria when I’m done!

MOfWC, that is so awful!!! May karma bite the disgusting individuals who did this in their fat butts!

Walked 2 miles on conservation land–to ocean bluff and back. Two days off–lots of guests visiting this weekend. Everyone leaves tomorrow.

Impressive running Saba! Having a group to train with is really helpful.

So bad about the ironman course MOWC. Was race cancelled or course changed?

WTH is wrong with people? :(

Needed to get out for some exercise, but after a busy weekend was kind of wiped out and probably in a slight carb fog (a donut hole here, some homemade lemon poppyseed rustic bread there…) I mentally wasn’t in the mood to run. Decided a walk would do. Dressed for exercise and headed out. Walked a couple blocks and said hell with it - finished with a 3.6 - it really is SO mental!!!

No- they got it cleaned up and say there were no injuries, but I’m sure there were a bunch of flats before it got rectified, which can mean losing a Kona slot… None of my friends were affected, fortunately for them.

In other news, did y’all see where Dennis Kimetto (Kenyan, shockingly…(not)) broke the marathon world record at Berlin yesterday/today with a sub 2:03! I can no longer run a HALF marathon that fast!

Sub 2:03.

I need smelling salts just reading that! Wow!

mkat:

Your gym sounds awesome!

On carrying DBs up and down stairs, I did my farmers carries up the basement steps for a while. Until, one day, I stumbled and almost lost my balance. I’m not the smartest guy around, but even I could see that stumbling on the stairs with a couple heavy DBs would not end pretty. On level ground, you can just dump the DBs, but what do you do with them while falling down the stairs. I decided that probably wasn’t the best way to go!

The Squam Lake Outdoors Association here in NH closes their trails during mud season in April/May. The trails erosion is brutal when the trails are muddy – both from the wet soil and from people leaving the trails to walk around the mud – thus, widening the trails. In really wet weather many parts of trails around here turn into streams with water flowing down them (because they are eroded into ditches below the surrounding ground level).

I can’t imagine that’s much of an issue where you are with all the sandy soil.

Sub 2:03? Wow. That smoking hot fast!

Oooh. Which one?

I saw a lady hiking Mt. Eisenhower in a Patagucci ultra-light down hoody. I thought that was a bit of overkill with temps in the 50s. I don’t hike in my ultralight down hoody even when temps are in the teens. Too sweaty! I guess it just shows that we all have different metabolisms…

My second day hike was a very popular “tourist” destination, so lots of lots of folk way overdressed in jeans and wool sweaters or sweatshirts. It was close to 70 degrees. I saw more gold embroidered sweaters on that trail than I’ve seen in years.

Well, I made it through my 11th 5k in 2 years with no paramedics being called. My time sucked and I did run/walk but that’s ok. I think I am going to wait til I retire (in a year) to focus on running.

Also took a 2 hr bike ride with H later that day.

Glad no paramedics were needed! I wish I were retiring in a year.

Forced myself to do the elliptical this morning, then spent the rest of the am at the doctor’s getting some preventive maintenance scheduled and then celebrated by getting a speeding ticket on the way to work. Grumble. I’m 51 years old and this is my first ticket ever, I kid you not. Oh well.

11th 5K in the past 2 years! That is exactly 11 5ks more than I ran in the past 5 years! Congrats and be proud of yourself. :)

Did 15.83 miles today on my bike. Miles 8-11.5 or so were really tough as they were all uphill. I had a few glasses of wine last night as a guest in a suite at the Cowboy game (those have their own private bartenders who come around refilling your glass, which I KNOW better than to allow, but…), and I feel like that made me feel sluggish. My time was actually a little improved because I guess I powered through it. But I didn’t feel good during this ride.

Today will drink lots of water and avoid alcohol and sugar. Maybe tomorrow will be better.

PG that’s amazing that you did a 5k and a 2 hour bike ride same day.

PG, it’s in the record books - and each race is not likely to be a record-breaker! Good job following through - a walk/run strategy is a great alternative - even for some runners with more experience - for exercise. Breaks up the session and when you finish is still very, very satisfying!

Congratulations for finishing another 5K Pizzagirl!

Sabaray, good thing your preventative maintenance occurred prior to the speeding ticket. I’m sure the sight of a police officer in your rear view mirror would have sent some vital stats out of range. Boo hiss to the ticket.

abasket, I’m not sure why the park wouldn’t let me walk through the puddles. It’s not as if its more hazardous than traipsing through mud, nor would the critter population change. I had knee high boots on for goodness sakes. I think perhaps it’s a control issue with certain county employees. Boo hiss to the nannies in charge.

I ran 4.5 miles on the treadmill today, my longest time and distance on that contraption. My pace was between 10-11 mm. Slow and steady, that’s me  It’s raining (hard) again so outdoor strolls tonight are iffy.

PlantMom, in my book, that’s a pretty good pace!!!

You go, PlantMom!
