Abasket- Unfortunately, 3 different airlines for these trips, and none of them my preferred Southwest.
At a beautiful resort here in Charlotte, so will try to get up and out for an early run.

Get some good rest, MOfWC!

A good night’s sleep makes everything more manageable.

I was lucky today in that I got started when the rain had subsided and then it picked up again just after I finished. Beanie served me well as it was a bit windy. Not too cold though.

At the first race I ran, one of my daughter’s coaches from a few years back was participating. She’s a very experienced, speedy runner and does the baggie.
It’s been fun getting to chat with her and her daughter at more than one race now.

Wow! Tackled one of the steepest hills in my town. Ran about a mile in my fancy skirt outfit. :)

Super foggy this morning but the temp felt a lot better than Tuesday. Think it was around 50. Got my 6 in for the day.
ohio, I’m in awe of those 6 minute miles. If you have an extra jetpack, I could sure use one!

I could use any kind of jet pack at all!
Its been too rainy to use chainsaw on the tree blocking my trail so to go I have to climb over the stupid thing. This has reduced m frequency at a time when the pool is now closed and I still toting around vac weight from SF. Gonna have to reduce portion size and get moving big time to daw back ;)

I hadn’t thought the morning swim made much of a difference workout-wise but I can pretty much chart my weight gain over the sat six weeks and there’s quite a correlation! Which means its time to add 20 min of airdyne to the hill!

4.1 miles- very dark but I had my headlamp. Didn’t get lost. Im at a resort/conference hotel in Charlotte.

A suggestion for runners who want to get faster—try strides. I’m doing 8-100 meter stride/sprints weekly now on the football field. Start out at 70% and move up to 95% effort. Think form—high knees—and arm motion to get the speed up. Do 1-2x weekly. I was doing them barefoot on the sidelines and jogging the end zones but now that the cold weather has hit will be going back to shoes. Think “fast” mentally when you are doing these. Running fast sprints at our age is almost as much of a mental challenge as running distance.

Remember to do active stretching before trying these. I know the current philosophy is against static stretching before running, but I think my old body needs both dynamic and static before doing any sprinting. Also if you are first starting out, don’t go 90-95 % speed in your first couple of outings. Be careful—running too fast too soon can cause injuries.

You might be surprised on how much faster you’ll be running your distance after incorporating strides into your routine.

kmcmom:

Three cheers to the claw back. What a perfect turn of phrase for the challenging of shedding a couple of sneaky pounds!

Cool, Ohio, thanks for the tip.

Thank you, Ohio. I have been trying to do this.

Lol. Sprints–even if they’re not so fast (relatively speaking, of course) are definitely a challenge at this age, officially another plus one for me today
Son took me out for lunch today–celebratory wings and french fries. And French food tonight.

Happy birthday, PlantMom. :-)

Happy birthday, PlantMom! Turning 39 for the umpteenth time is alway an achievement! :)

Happy Birthday PlantMom! How nice that Son could be home to celebrate. Enjoy that French food - one of my favorites too!

Thank you! Yes, I am getting rather used to turning 39
Food was good, but so rich. I’ve got some exercising to do tomorrow.

Happy Birthday, PlantMom!

French food and French fries - way to go!!! Hope you enjoyed your day PlantMom !!

Went for a run, forgot to turn off the heat, and as the result, burned the dinner that was simmering on the stove! Arrgghh! Potstickers and a consolatory glass of wine is the dinner tonight.

^^^Hate it when that happens!

Atonement, day 1: 3 miles of walking and 4 miles running. Although I came nowhere near to burning off yesterday’s excess (maybe a whole week’s worth, with DS home for break), I feel much better for having taken the extra steps.
