PG: Hope your D is back to school soon–tough stuff for you, having to deal with it all from afar.

Rest day on Saturday–but did do lots of walking–went on a tour of a local garden cemetery with H’s friend who is an arborist. Walked 2 miles on Sunday and did 3-4 hours of yard work–putting away deck furniture, grill, bring outdoor planters inside, etc. Hot yoga today–which felt great because I kept up and mastered a pose that’s been giving me trouble.

MoWC beat me to it. A number of us have osteoporosis, and it’s been discussed a few times in this thread and elsewhere in the Cafe.

I agree – be very careful about what you take. Go see a specialist. Do some research online (there’s a good forum at the National Osteoporosis Foundation.) I would first try to deal with it without drugs. Here’s one thing to consider with the drugs – right now, research shows that they are only effective for about 5 years. My doc doesn’t want me taking them now, when I’m in my 50s – she’d rather I wait until I’m older.

Thanks for the thought provoking comments. I didn’t intend to start popping any pills right away. She mentioned a couple different med names - I will call the pharmacy here (on campus) and see what she sent over - no obligation for me to pick it up right away.

A second consult seems like a good idea. You are giving me some good questions to ask about. Keep em coming.

I never thought I’d say it, but the ValSlide Alligator Crawls aren’t kicking my butt anymore. Yay for progress. Rear foot elevated split squats are kicking my butt!

Really fun free weight session last Friday, still exploring all the exercise options I now have with my renovated gym. Indoor wattage cycling session for an hour on Saturday and I am deeply concerned that riding indoors this early in the off season is already making me want to gag :(( Rode outside yesterday for 40 miles and it saved my sanity!

PowerStretch is Polartec’s lightweight fleece in a stretchy version, smooth woven on the outside, fuzzy fleece on the inside. Very warm, very comfortable, but light enough to wear inside (like a sweater) and thin enough to wear under a coat. Short of a down sleeping bag, I don’t think there is anything more comfy for lying on the sofa watching football than a Power Stretch fleece hoodie!

Second is their Polartec gridded microfleece. This one is identical fabric to the Patagonia R1 tops that sell for $150.

Same as PowerStretch fleece, but the inside fleece is gridded so it’s a bit lighter and a bit more breathable. This one has panels of the awesome gridded baselayer fabric (see Patagonia Capilene 4) under the arms and across the shoulders. This would be an awesome winter running top! Looks like it’s cut long to wear with running tights (same as the Patagonia, again).

I’ve noticed as the wind picks up that my eyes water a lot when riding. I need prescription glasses. Do they make glasses which shield your eyes better from the wind? I imagine they’d be expensive.

Worked with my trainer this morning–did TRX, Kettlebells, battle ropes, running up and down stairs ( Which I hate hate!) as well as lifting weights and doing lunges and planks. Finished by doing 25 minutes on a stair climbing machine. It’s like a motorized staircase. It was not easy. Saw the Pilates instructor as I was leaving and we had a nice chat. She just emailed and offered me three complimentary reformer sessions. I told her I’d try–signed up for next Monday. Looking forward to some new workouts.

Bromfield, H has been using the stair climber - you are right, it is not easy. He was very happy this morning as he could wear a pair of suit pants that hadn’t fit in quite a while. I look forward to your Pilates report!

The first one is identical to the Marmot or REI Power Stretch fleece (aside from whatever minor differences in fit there might be between brands). Same exact fabric. Except the textured color on the LL BEAN version is a nice touch.

The second one is the gridded-fleece version of the same fabric, Same weight, same stretch, they just shave away a bit of the fleece to form a grid pattern and then combine it with some even lighter fleece panels on the sides. You can see it in on one of the detailed photographs. The outer surface is a little looser weave, so a bit more like a sweater. Here’s the Patagonia R1 version. I think it’s Patagonia’s biggest selling item.

Wow, what a gorgeous Veteran’s Day (many thanks to vets everywhere and any in the CC family!!). I gave birth to my first born on this day 26 years ago and I can assure you it wasn’t this great of a weather day!

It’s 60, sunny and breezy. All hell slated to break through tonight with the cold. Savoring today (which happens to be a day off) and with two doggie walks today already (one after his vet visit at our FAVORITE park!) and a run earlier this morning. Will most likely be hanging out on the treadmill the next few days anyway…
