Pouring cats and dogs today! Kiddo occupied the dreadmill, so I will “go for a run” later.

idad, what a way to spend the Thanksgiving morning! You could have melted some of that snow in a pot on the grill for washing. Just kidding. Glad the power came back.

I cooked my 12-lb organic Costco turkey on the grill (after Mr B’s repeated questioning my turkey grilling skills since I have never done it), and it turned out the best T-day bird I’ve ever made - juicy and flavorful! I followed the instructions of the Reluctant Gourmet (found him by googling “turkey on gas grill”) and did the 3-way flip as he recommended. I only used the leftmost burner, and the grill was at the perfect 330-350 degrees most of the time. The sides turned out delicious, too, and the house does not smell like roasted turkey.

DH and I left for our lake house on Tuesday night to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner with the family. We got there late, just turned the water on to the house and went to bed. Wednesday morning we found some water at the foot of the stairs coming from ??? Had a plumber out and he said that they may need to tear up the walls in the vicinity to find the leak. He said “you can still have Thanksgiving here, but you just need to turn the water off when you’re not using it and turn it back on when you need it”. DH was on board, but I said, “Whaaaat?!” Okay, someone needs to use the toilet? Run downstairs, go to the mechanical shed, and turn the water on. Wait patiently for them to finish. Turn water off. Oh, need to fill up a pot of water to boil potatoes? Okay, run downstairs, turn the water on, wait for the pot to fill up, then turn water off again. And so on…No, not happening.

We had to load up all the food we’d bought on the way in, special Thanksgiving dishes, etc. and haul it all back to Dallas. Family was disappointed as the lake weather was supposed to be gorgeous and our house is perched on a cliff with a spectacular view.

We were thankful that we have a lovely primary home in which to celebrate being thankful, and the food was good and company also wonderful.

Now if the power was out and we were buried under snow, that might have made the whole being thankful thing a little harder, though certainly not impossible. Glad iDad’s power was restored!

Oy! So many water issues.

We had none, just stuffed ourselves and watched football.

Today back to the gym.

I was actually worried about losing power as our snow was pretty heavy, but thankfully no issues. Glad everyone was able to enjoy a nice turkey day in spite of all the trials and tribulations.

Treated myself to some new running shoes. New model of the Asics GT-2000, which definitely has improved fit in the heel compared to the prior version. I tried on some Mizunos (the Wave Inspire 11) which I also liked and may go back and get those later in the week when H is not along. Can’t have too many shoes, right? H did not agree. He feels I have plenty of running shoes. I also braved Old Navy this morning (no laughing, please) and got some compression pants at 50% off - I had a pair that I really liked and couldn’t pass up another pair for $12.00. They’ve held up really well and if these don’t, hey, they were $12!

Digging through the internets to find BF deals, I came across this site. Here are some good tips for all of us who have to sit at work:

Your food comments are making me hungry - going to set out the leftovers for a mid-day pick me up!

So sorry for all the unplanned events that ALMOST got in the way of some celebrations - but glad you all worked through it!

D1 talked about going to the fitness center yet today and it’s currently snow showering outside so I may join her.

Just did a 5 mile run/walk around the local reservoir. 24 degrees, but not windy. Although I was VERY restrained at Thanksgiving, tonight is my side of the family’s annual post-Thanksgiving Pizza Party. I figured I needed to do something to counteract the pizza and beer!

D2 just made a HUGE turkey pot pie from scratch for tonight’s dinner. It looks so good, it was hard not to dig in for breakfast.

Healthy eating will wait another day.

Easy 6 miles this morning. Really sore after a tough Reformer session yesterday but we are headed to Mom’s for homemade waffles so I needed to do something!

Ran 5 miles on the Precor to shake myself out of the turkey coma (28 degrees outside and a dusting of snow). Mixed in some incline intervals, and they felt fine. I think my cross-training on the city hills helps. :)

Definitely need the weekend to be over so I can get away from the carbs! Doing fine quantity wise, but just seems like so many carbs are on the table where ever we go. Ugh. Good, but I can feel the bloat! Popcorn two nights in a row!

Feeling like I"m drowning a little - between this holiday, all the kids home, the house is cluttered, H’s b-day tomorrow, pressure to get some decorating down in and out…I need a week to catch up!

I finally broke the turkey stupor long enough to get to the basement and sling some weights around. Almost fell asleep on my exercise mat after the hip lifts in my warm up. Good solid workout. Needed it badly as I was really stiff and creaky.

If you guys think the Thanksgiving carbs are a shock, imagine me eating stuffing or turkey sandwiches three days in a row. At least I have avoided cake, pie, cookies, candy, crackers and desserts (except for fresh fruit) – a small victory offset by wine and vintage port! (1977 Taylor Fladgate).

I’m officially sick of turkey (salad for dinner!), so I hit the grocery store and the butcher shop today. With the whole grill set up for turkey (and the snow shovelled away from it), I’m firing up the smoker tomorrow while watching football. Six beef short ribs. Two slabs of baby back ribs. Three pork butts.

The Lulu puff pullover is now on sale for $99 so I’ll return the full price one my sister is bringing me in VA tomorrow and re-buy it. That’s a good price- down from $168.

$99 is way better than $168. I have been forcing myself to avoid all the black friday sale e-mails…

Finally, finally, finally finished the painting in my basement studio on Thanksgiving. Never want to hold a paintbrush or roller again. So I celebrated on Friday by going to my local fitness toy store and buying some finishing touches like an adjustable step bench (great for 1 legged squats) and Thera-Band tubing in various thicknesses with handles. Then did a double workout Saturday, lifting in the morning and an hour of indoor cycling in the afternoon consisting of 40 high wattage all out 30 second intervals with 30 seconds off in between. Slept like the dead last night! Hitting 50 degrees today so I’m off to do a 45 mile ride.

6 hilly miles in northern Virginia on a good paved trail system. Big climb to get back to the hotel, though. Now off to eat away the benefits at a bakery we’ve missed since we left Dallas 8 years ago- la Madeleine.

A little over four relatively flat miles…really warm here today! Overdressed as usual.

Not going to make my goal for the year - I’d wanted to do 100 miles each month and I think I’m going to be about 100 short of that. I’m okay with that, though. No injuries, relatively few aches and pains.

That’s still a great accomplishment Sabaray! You should feel very gratified.

Well the weather people were wrong again today. Never hit above 42 :). At least I now know the lower limit for my “50 degree” riding kit (knicker length bib tights, cold weather jersey and fall weight riding jacket) lol.

Sabaray- you’ve done great! I revised my 1600 miles for the year down when I got the stress fracture, but thought I might hit 1300. I’m now projected (according to Runningahead) to hit 1254. I could hit the 1300 with some heroics, but I don’t feel like it. Getting 30 miles a week has been as tough as it used to be to get 40. Not sure why that is.

Did a 5K on Thanksgiving day and then did a yoga session afterwards. Just a Level 1 class, 85 degree heat.

Day after Tgiving, my nieces convinced me to try the Hot Power Fusion (Bikram-ish) class, which I’d only done once before. I do not do well with heat - so I did have to leave class twice just for a few seconds to gulp some colder air, but I did it, so now I have something else in my repertoire to torture myself with.

I did give myself a day off, and I have eaten more carbs than any one human should. So back on the wagon we go!
